Chapitre 138: Chapter 138: Eat Whatever You Want, Just Eat! (Edited)

Repaying kindness with ingratitude was never Clark's way.

He belonged to the type who, if struck by a punch, would definitely kick back, and it had to be a kick with spiked boots right between the legs!

Last time, Fury, trying to show off, barged into his office without permission, so naturally, Clark had to find an opportunity for revenge.

What's so special about the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s office? I can just open a portal anywhere!

Seeing Fury's dumbfounded expression, Clark felt much better, but his expression remained serious as he pretended to be very angry, "I came here specifically to talk to you about the assassination attempt on the plane. Don't you think you owe me a reasonable explanation?"

"It was an accident..." Fury began to deny, but under Clark's stern gaze, he finally didn't have the courage to lie, "Alright, it was an internal problem, and I'm very sorry for that. But I swear, I had no knowledge of it beforehand!"

Clark knew he wasn't informed, but that didn't stop him from exploiting the situation, "If apologies were useful, why would I bother learning martial arts?"

At this point, Fury realized this guy was clearly here to extort him. But so what?

He was at fault first. If he didn't show some sincerity, not only would their future cooperation be impossible, but he might also face Clark's senseless targeting.

With a sigh, Fury sat down and said, "So, what do you want? How about you hit me?"

Hearing this insincere proposal, Clark couldn't help but sneer inside.

No need for words, he directly pulled out a prepared piece of paper and unfolded it in front of Fury, "I want this item. If you're willing to give it to me unconditionally, I might consider forgetting the unpleasant past."

Fury picked up the paper and saw a detailed sketch of a special metallic object, an irregular polygon that looked like the base of a trophy.

Shaking his head, Fury honestly replied, "I don't recognize this."

"Not recognize it?" Clark calmly said, "Then let me remind you."

"This object is known scientifically as the obelisk, but you S.H.I.E.L.D. folks refer to it as 084. Don't look at me like that; I know 084 doesn't represent something specific to you, but a general term for unknown objects. However, what I want is the first 084 found by S.H.I.E.L.D."

He paused slightly, adding under Fury's astonished gaze, "That is, in 1945, after Agent Carter led the team to take down what you knew as the last Hydra base, and seized."

The obelisk, a Kree artifact designed to help Inhumans unlock their potential, was of little use to Clark.

But Hank Pym encountered some difficulties while studying the rings from the Mandarin, so Clark thought of using this artifact to find some inspiration to fully decrypt the ring's program.

Although S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra had studied it for years without uncovering its secrets, the Clark-Pym combination was different. Clark knew where it could be activated, and Pym possessed one of the world's most brilliant minds.

Combined, they might achieve something.

After all, it was free, and Clark wasn't one to refuse such an opportunity.

However, Fury still shook his head in response to Clark's request, "I really don't know about this thing. What's so special about it that you care so much?"

Clark's answer was succinct, "Hehe!"

Fury chuckled dryly, still thick-skinned, and shook his head again, "I need to check the 1945 archives. How about you go back first and wait for my news?"

Clark made it clear, yet Fury pretended not to remember. He was clearly interested in the obelisk's true function and wasn't going to easily hand it over without knowing more.

"This means you're planning to delay indefinitely and not compensate me?"

Fury denied, "I really don't know. How about you make another request? As long as we have it in S.H.I.E.L.D., except for things as expensive as the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters or the aircraft you previously used, I can agree to give it to you."

In other words, whether they actually have it or not was still up to Fury?

Clark pulled out his phone, activating the camera function, "Do you dare to repeat what you just said in front of the camera?"

"Not daring!"

"Then, goodbye."

"Wait, you mentioned Pierce might be Hydra. Do you have any solid evidence?"

Clark smiled without saying a word, again raising his phone, ready to record.

Fury, having no choice, repeated his earlier promise in front of the camera.

Satisfied, Clark put his phone away, declaring confidently, "Evidence? It doesn't exist!"

Fury glared, "You're playing me!"

Clark received an impression score of +6666 from Nick Fury!

Continuing, Clark said, "Why do you think I was hired as a tactical consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D.? Don't you have any clue?"

Fury frowned, "I know you might have special abilities that let you know many things we don't, but involving Pierce..."

"Alright, I won't press you." Clark had anticipated this, so he shifted the conversation, "Then let's start by disrupting the plan he's been orchestrating for years. I also have no evidence for this, but you wouldn't mind listening to some of my guesses, right?"

Fury's spirit lifted, "What plan?"

"The Insight Project."

"You know about that too?"

"Of course." Clark's smile was confident, "I not only know about your Insight Project but also the conspiracy hidden behind it."

"This story begins with Hydra's birth within S.H.I.E.L.D. When Captain America arrested Hydra's chief scientist, Dr. Zola, during a mission, Colonel Phillips devised a plan to turn him. But Zola, harboring treachery, pretended to cooperate while secretly expanding Hydra's influence within S.H.I.E.L.D...."

Hearing this, Fury was already 70-80% convinced by Clark's story. It seemed plausible, not like a made-up tale.

But he waited for Clark to continue.

Clark, undeterred, went on, "Before his death, Dr. Zola uploaded his consciousness into a computer program, hidden within the base of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s precursor, the Strategic Scientific Reserve."

"It's the Strategic Scientific Reserve," Fury corrected.

"That's not important," Clark interrupted, "What matters is his consciousness was hidden in that base's computer, and it seems a USB drive is needed to access it, though I'm not quite clear on the details."

"He also developed an algorithm that could predict if someone would pose a threat to Hydra based on their actions and information. If this algorithm is combined with your Insight Project..."

Hearing Clark's words, Fury broke out in a cold sweat. If what Clark said was true, then he, Nick Fury, might become humanity's greatest sinner.

This matter had to be thoroughly investigated!

Clark's spoiler about the Insight Project lacked evidence, but even the mere possibility was enough to make Fury consider stopping it.

On matters threatening human safety, as a qualified leader, one must adopt a cautious attitude of believing in the possibility.

And Clark's true purpose for coming here was exactly that.

Since Pierce dared to play dirty, he shouldn't blame Clark for making his life difficult.

Let the mutual harm begin!

"With that said," Clark turned to leave, "I think you know what to do next. If you encounter any troubles, feel free to find me."

"And in the coming days, just eat whatever you want."

After Clark left, Fury was left in a foul mood.

"Eat whatever you want, just eat!" This nonsensical phrase, coming from anyone else, Fury would have ignored. But coming from Clark, a mysterious figure, he couldn't help but ponder if there was a deeper meaning.

After Clark's departure, Fury immediately began to research and consult experts. After a whole day of effort, he received a somewhat reliable answer from Agent Melinda May.

In China, people usually say, "Eat whatever you want, just eat," when someone is about to die.

This answer didn't clarify Fury's confusion but deepened it.

What exactly did Clark mean? Was he dissatisfied because Fury hadn't handed over the obelisk and wanted to find an opportunity to kill him? Unlikely.

Although Clark was annoying, his actions had some boundaries. Being the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury was confident in his judgment of people.

If not that, then it left only one possibility: someone else wanted to take action against him!

But who would it be, and what methods would they use? How could Fury understand such mystical matters? And getting Clark to reveal the truth would probably cost a lot.

Fury, needing to maintain his authority, couldn't just give in on this issue.

So, he silently increased his personal security, waiting to see what would happen next.

Clark received an impression score of +7777 from Nick Fury!

Clark wasn't too concerned about the impression points from Fury. Back at Pym Laboratories, an interesting scene was about to unfold.

After several days of "Cleansing Mantra" treatment, Bucky finally woke up, with Steve allowed by Clark to be the first to visit.

Now, it was time to witness a deep friendship.
