Chapitre 23: Kill Steal
After a short hour of recuperating, Roan stood up. He glanced at others who were still sitting and healing or recovering.
He did not say a word to them and put the beast crystal from the ground into his small bag.
He picked up the knife from the ground which he used to carve out the beast crystal and cleaned off the blood from it by grinding it against monkey's fur.
Jasper and others were shocked of his actions. To them, he looked like a reincarnation of a devil, strong and ruthless grinding his weapon against a corpse.
Roan did not bother looking at their reactions, he merely wanted to remove blood stains from his knife and the beast's fur looked fine for it.
He went ahead to scout the area. He used his wind path to smoothly speed up and climb trees. It did not take him long to circle around the area they were resting in.
He did not find any beast nearby. He was still vigilant and did not let his guard down.
He came back to where others were still recuperating. "There are no beasts around, we should leave when you all have recovered." he said
Morris nodded and said " It is fine. Anyways we have to hunt more beasts and it is difficult to find them"
" if you don't mind then let me scan the beast crystal to increase our team ranking. We have only hunted two." Morris hesitated proposing the idea
Roan didn't mind and threw the beast crystal to Morris. Morris took the crystal clicked on his watch screen.
A holographic light emitted from the watch and covered the beast crystal. A beep sound was made and the holographic light dissipated.
Morris threw the crystal back to Roan.
Roan took it and put the crystal back into his bag.
"I am taking this one since i did not get the one from wolf. Beast crystal from the next beast we hunt will be given to you" Roan said to others.
He did not want to be a tyrant. The beast crystal would only help him a little but hunting such beasts would be a big reward.
If he gave the beast crystal from next beasts to them it would not affect him that much an would also encourage them to hunt more.
Hearing what he said everyone felt bitter in their hearts. They were good themselves but now someone was pitying them for a beast crystal.
Lucas proudly spoke" It's fine, no need. Only those who contribute should gain the beast crystal. We had the same rule before you joined and it will be same now."
Morris and Jasper also nodded not at all rejecting what Lucas said. Jennie reluctantly looked at Jasper but seeing him nod, she also nodded.
'They look like they come from big families' Roan thought, seeing the team members pride.
However, he did not reject their proposal. He also needed the beast crystals to gain exp points after getting out of here.
They all stood up, finished recovering and waited for each other to discuss where to go next.
"We are already in the vicinity of jungle. Let's go deeper and search for beasts, we will rush back when dusk." Morris suggested
He glanced at others to see if they had any other suggestions but everyone agreed.
Morris took the lead this time with Roan on his right, Lucas on the left and Williams sibling at his back.
They ventured in the jungle for half an hour before stumbling upon a cave of black colored cheetah with a scaled tail.
It had blue eyes and a tail like a reptile. It was strangling a dark green rabbit like creature with its tail.
The rabbit like creature was not yet dead and looked very tenacious. The strange cheetah did not dare to come close to green rabbit and maintained its distance with the tail.
The tail of the cheetah like creature was indeed very strange. Not it only looked like a tail of reptile with scales but the length of tail was also unusual.
The scaled tail was about seven to eight foot in length. The tail was also dark black with metallic luster. The tail of the beast was covered with small metallic scales.
It looked like a tail of reptile such as alligator but was thin like a normal cheetah's tail.
The black cheetah kept the rabbit like creature six feet away from its body with the help of its long tail.
The rabbit was emitting a green toxic gas from its mouth but could not break free from the scaled tail.
The tail had very tough defense and could not be melted, the rabbit could only make scratches on it.
Morris and other were a distance away from the cave and could not be spotted by the beast.
Lucas glanced at the beasts and then asked Roan " Do you think you can get it? The cheetah like creature seems cautious and has a very strong tail."
Morris spoke before Roan could respond " The strange cheetah is keeping its distance from the toxic rabbit. It only has a strong tail otherwise the rabbit would not be still alive"
Roan looked at the strange cheetah then used inspect on it.
A system notification opened up showing status of the beast

He also checked for rabbit's status. Another window popped up

Roan nodded at Morris's observation and then said " Its tail is surprisingly very long which means we have to get close to the beast to kill it"
"I am not sure but I think the cheetah is not actually a cheetah, it is a Leopard mutant. Leopards have spot with a brown center surrounded by black whereas cheetah's are solid black." he said explaining the difference between two species.
'Like who cares whether it is a leopard or dinosaur, tell us if you can beat it' Lucas thought in his mind but did not say out loud.
Others also had strange expression on their faces but no one spoke.
"The leopard would not escape without injury from this fight. This might actually give us a easy kill" he said evaluating the rabbit as same level as the mutant leopard.
Others did know but he saw the stats of both beasts. The rabbit was also very strong. If not for the difference in their body parts, the fight would have not been a stalemate.
The rabbit had an advantage in close combat with its poison but the leopard did not let it come close.
Stats of both beasts were similar with only a little difference which could be made up with their skills.
Hearing that Roan evaluated the rabbit to be in same league as the leopard everyone had some doubts.
"Are you sure that the rabbit can injure the leopard? It doe not look like it will last any longer even if it is an intermediate tier beast." Lucas asked
"The leopard is only defending and does not dare to move close to the rabbit and it is not letting the rabbit escape."
"The rabbit has a toxic skill but the defense of leopard tail's scales can offset it. They are in a stalemate." Roan thoroughly explained.
"Doesn't that mean we can kill both of them without a lot of trouble" Jasper spoke suggesting to take action.
"It sounds easy but it is actually more difficult. We have to one hit kill both the beasts when in stalemate otherwise we would have to face one or in worst case both." Morris warned
"I can kill the rabbit in one hit or at least critically injure it. I cannot say about the leopard. What do you think?" Jasper asked them
Lucas hesitated but spoke " If you can damage or kill the toxic rabbit then I can deal with the Leopard."
Jasper and Lucas both looked at Roan and Morris. Roan did not care and allowed them to attack the beast if they wish.
Roan did not speak but Morris did " It is fine if you are both confident but if you cannot kill the rabbit then I would not be able to help."
"Neither would Roan, I guess. He and I can only fight physically strong beast not toxic ones." Morris said
Jasper and Lucas both looked at Roan expecting an answer if he can deal with toxics or not.
Roan nodded at Morris's words and said " I am confident in dealing with the leopard but the toxin of rabbit is out of my reachs"
He still remembers how just yesterday he was poisoned because of that shitty bluebird and had to go through the body tearing pain.
He did not want to experience it yet again. He wanted both the beasts to tire out themselves then attack.
"I am sure I can deal with the rabbit but I would be out of fight after that and I want the rabbit's beast crystal." Jasper said to the team
He did not care who kills the Leopard as long as he gets the rabbit's beast crystal. He knew he was the only one among them who could actually break the stalemate easily.
