Chapitre 14: Chapter 14. Siege of Buffalo

Buffalos have long lived in the delta where the Orus lion pack is located. They feed in groups on dry grass that other herbivores cannot digest, and during the hottest days, they enter the forest to rest and ruminate on food.

These behemoths with four stomachs, with a hot temper, are natural enemies of lions. Lions will hunt down calves and the elderly and weak in water buffalo herds during the dry season when food is scarce, and water buffaloes will find opportunities to kill lions. Especially for underage lion cubs, every year new cubs die under the hard hooves and sharp horns of water buffalo.

Unless absolutely necessary, the lion herd would not be willing to provoke these water buffaloes. Although calves are relatively easy to catch, the robust bulls in the herd would never turn a blind eye to them.

The female lions in the Orus lion pack are robust, brave, and familiar with the dangers of water buffalo. They followed behind the water buffalo herd, preventing them from easily discovering themselves. The water buffalo entered the forest and began to ruminate on food. The lionesses hid behind the bushes and tall grass, monitoring the every move of the water buffalo herd.

Finally, some water buffalo began to stand up. They were the high-ranking cows in the herd, with their heads facing in different directions. The direction most cows pointed to was where the herd would rest overnight tonight.

The female lions responsible for tracking the herd of cattle obtained the information they wanted, and they quietly exited the forest like they had always been.

Rosa and Shana stayed behind to continue monitoring the group of water buffaloes. The lioness Leme returned to the lion group and informed her companions about the movement of the water buffaloes. That night, in addition to the two lionesses who stayed to watch over the young lion, the remaining ten lionesses and the male lion Orus poured out, and they were determined to win tonight's prey.

The water buffalo knew nothing about all of this. They have extremely poor vision at night and can only rely on the smell and hearing from the wind to avoid danger. The bulls stood at the outermost edge of the herd, guarding the calves and cows with their sharp horns and massive bodies.

Tina and the remaining nine lionesses gradually surrounded the herd of buffalo. They had targeted an old bull in the herd. One of his horns had been broken off on one side and he limped slightly as he walked. Although the old bull was large in size and posed a considerable risk during the hunt, the reward would be great if they were successful.

This male water buffalo, weighing one ton, is enough to feed the entire lion pack, and there is no need to go out hunting for a week.

In the dark night, the lionesses waited quietly for the moment the battle began, and the water buffaloes seemed to sense the tense atmosphere in the air. They began to feel uneasy and anxious.

Finally, the first lioness signaled an attack, and the lionesses responsible for dispersing the herd rushed forward. The tight defensive formation of the water buffalo was disrupted, and in the darkness, they did not know how many lions had arrived or who their targets were. They could only run along with the herd, and the dust raised posed no threat to the lions. Finally, the old water buffalo that Tina was watching fell behind the herd. Rosa and Teeny seized the opportunity and jumped up, pouncing from behind the old water buffalo.

The old water buffalo is not as strong as in his early years, but still exceptionally brave. He repeatedly throws the lioness off his back and attacks the lions attempting to kill him with horns. Several experienced lionesses constantly consume the water buffalo's strength, leaving scars on its body, and the smell of blood in the air becomes stronger and stronger.

During this period, companions of the old water buffalo attempted to save him, but the lionesses could never give up the meat on their mouths. These warriors with iron hooves and sharp horns all returned in vain.

After the obstacles were eliminated, the lionesses attempted to knock down the water buffalo, but the stubborn resistance of the water buffalo thwarted their attempts time and time again. Finally, the lioness Tina let out a roar at Orus, who had been watching the battle, "Orus, what are you waiting for?! "Kill him for me! Otherwise, go hungry!"

Orus was startled by Tina's roar. He didn't want to hold back, but the lionesses didn't give him a chance to attack. Looking at the old buffalo who was barely alive after being tortured, Orus decided to do a good deed. Compared to being scratched and torn by the lionesses until his skin was torn and his flesh was exposed, he believed the old buffalo would prefer a more merciful way to die.

Shana and Teeny were biting the two hind legs of the water buffalo when Orus jumped up and onto its back. The old water buffalo finally stumbled and collapsed under the pressure of a 500 to 600 pound lion. If the old water buffalo could speak, he would definitely protest: five to six hundred pounds were thrown at him, there was no such thing as doing it! This is so damn unfair to the buffalo!

Orus took advantage of the situation and bit the buffalo's neck, piercing its tough skin with sharp fangs. Only a male lion can achieve this. If a female lion wants to kill a water buffalo, she can only bite its mouth and nose and give it a "kiss of death".

The hunting lasted for nearly half an hour, and the lions appeared exhausted.

The lions didn't know that just as they were fully focused on dealing with the water buffalo, the three cheetahs were hiding in the bushes less than 500 meters away from them.

Cyrus tightly hugged the two little cheetahs in his arms, preventing them from making any noise.

"Dad..."

"Shh, don't talk."

Cyrus circled two cheetahs with his claws, trying to make them feel safer. He regretted it a bit. He should have left earlier with his two little cheetahs. Who would have expected that a herd of cows locked in by a lion would suddenly run towards where he and two little cheetahs were hiding?

The three cheetahs cannot move at all. Tonight, the lion is clearly going on a killing spree. Although they have caught a water buffalo, it does not mean that they will let go of the cheetah they are trying to kill. For a moment, Cyrus almost thought the lion had discovered them, but fortunately, they were more concerned about the food they had at hand.

The old water buffalo was still breathing, and the lionesses couldn't wait to tear open his belly. Two lionesses rushed over with the little lions, and when they smelled the smell of blood, the little lions were extremely happy. But their strength is too weak to handle the tough skin of the water buffalo, so they can only obediently wait for the lioness to completely tear open the prey's abdominal cavity or take a bite from the softest buttocks.

Orus let go of the buffalo's neck, stood up, and roared at the lionesses. Even if the female lions in heat are unwilling, they can only give up their best position, which is the rule in a lion pack.

Orus is not very polite to his wives, as he always does during meals, but he is quite generous with the little lions. To put it simply, even though he sweetly talks to the lionesses, in the view of a male lion, the lioness and he are not considered a family. The little lions are the continuation of his bloodline.

All the lions focused their attention on the water buffalo, competing with each other, and the atmosphere of violence was undoubtedly evident. Cyrus and others are at this moment. He gestured for the two little cheetahs to go first, following behind them. The father and son crawled forward, gradually moving away from the lions tearing at the water buffalo.

No lions noticed them. After the father and son left the bushes, they ran quickly on the grassland under the cover of night and grass, finally reaching a safe place and stopping.

Calvin and Charlie leaned against Cyrus, panting and trembling incessantly. They are too scared, only Cyrus can comfort them. The two uncontrollable cheetahs instinctively burrowed under Cyrus's belly, and it took Cyrus a while to realize what the cheetahs wanted.

When cheetah cubs encounter danger, they instinctively seek comfort, and most commonly, the mother cheetah will breastfeed them,

But these two cheetahs are already six months old and have been weaned long ago. Now that they are doing this kind of behavior, it can only be said that they are really scared.

However, Cyrus was devastated. He really wanted to give these two little cheetahs a paw. He's male, he doesn't have that function, really!

However, perhaps he should seriously consider Parzin's opinion and leave the territory of the Orus lion pack with his two little cheetahs.

It was late at night, and the two little cheetahs were already sleeping soundly against Cyrus. Cyrus, however, was sleepless and had to plan well for the future.

The Parzin and Jarlow brothers, who have been active in this area recently, were also alarmed by the sound of lion herds hunting water buffalo. The brothers knew that lion herds would hunt water buffalo every dry season, but they didn't expect water buffalo herds to suddenly appear here.

Unlike Cyrus, Parzin and Jarlow can capture a wide variety of prey, such as adult wart pigs and large antelopes like the horned antelope.

Although Cyrus occasionally achieved some success, apart from clumsy traps, luck accounted for the majority.

Parzin and Jarlow have just finished eating a warthog. The brothers don't stick to hunting only during the day or night. Jarlow lies on the ground, bored, licking his paws, and looking at his silent brother, he finally can't help but speak up: "Brother, if you're really interested in that evolved species, you should act sooner rather than later."

Always hanging around in one area, expecting to random meeting something, it's really too... whatever.

"Hmm?"

"To be honest, brother, we are beasts and not suitable for being reserved."
