Chapitre 24: 023 Splash Landing!
* Gasp *
James emerged from under the water. He was taking deep breaths not only to catch his breath but to calm down. That jump really scared him.
He looked around to get some bearings on his surroundings. When he looked behind and saw that he was not too far away from some large rocks.
On those rocks was Mercury, she was not the least bit wet. It was like she never hit the water.
"You didn't land in the water did you?" James complained.
"Nope, you can't complain! I had kicked off the wall to direct my fall. I wanted to stay dry so I landed on the rock here. You could have done the same since you had a speed buff." said Mercury while giggling.
James started to swim over to her; he wanted to throw her in the water.
Seeing that James had a yearning for revenge in his eyes she started jumping rock to rock while heading to the shore. "Oh... by the way, while I was scouting this place earlier I saw a giant water snake that seemed to have this small lake as it's home. You better hurry to shore!"
James nearly had a heart attack; he quickly looked around and was happy he didn't see anything. [Just in case she is not messing with me I should head to shore anyway.]
He started to swim to shore when he heard a splash behind him. He quickly turned around as say a massive snake swimming towards him.

He swam as hard as he could to beat the snake to shore. On the shore in front of him was Mercury, she seemed to be enjoying the show.
[I will have my revenge on this girl even if it kills me!]
James finally made it to shore, he ran past Mercury but stopped shortly after. She was not running with him.
Instead she was in a combat stance with her giant axe glowing.
[Maddening Strength] [Maddening Agility]
[Crushing Assault!]
[She's planning on fighting! What a mad woman!]
Regardless of the fact he wanted revenge on her James also started to fight.

When the snake was close enough to Mercury she swung her axe.

The axe made contact with the head of the snake that was previously charging towards them.

The snake how had had a large gash on the left side of its face. It's left eye was destroyed.

James was in the middle of casting a fireball when he saw the utterly ridiculous damage Mercury caused.
"Is this why you are positive we can pass the leaderboard players? You took over 20% of the snake's HP that hit."
"Yup! With your buffs I can deal some crazy damage! I'm even surprised my max hit before was around 1,600." giggled Mercury.
James launched a fireball at the snake.
* Whoosh *
The fireball hit the snake in his right eye. James wanted to see if he also could damage the snake's remaining eye.

The snake had closed its eye before the fireball struck.
"I don't think the snake will let me near its face either so don't feel bad that you can blind the snake." assured Mercury.
She continued her assault on the snake. Since her [Crushing Assault] was on its long cooldown she engaged in her own fighting style.
She leaped into the air with her axe positioned overhead. When he was at the peak of her jump she swung down with her axe. She started to rotate head over heels and looked like a saw blade.
The snake saw the incoming attack and was going to lash out with its giant tail.
As the snake swung its tail towards Mercury James fired two fireballs back to back. The first fireball hit the tip of the snake's tail while the other one hit further down. He was able to deflect the snake's attack enough to barely miss Mercury.

Seeing that its attack failed the snake curled its body up and it started to glow. The snake had hardened its scales in preparation for the incoming attack.
The saw blade styled attack made a direct hit on the snake's torso but did not caused nearly as much damage as her opening attack.

Since the snake still had its defense sill activated they saw a 42 point increase to their defense points.
"Your skill only leaches 10% right?" questioned Mercury.
"Yes, so the snake' skill boosts its defense to 420 points."
"Hmm that could be troublesome. That is roughly double what a typical tank's defense points would be."
"Hmm, it hasn't moved since it activated the skill. It is probably safe to say it has to be immobile to use the skill" commented James.
Shortly after James finished talking the snake's body stopped glowing. In an instant the snake's fangs started glowing green.
Since it's body was curled up it was able to strike out much faster than when it was not.
Seeing that the attack was directed at James Mercury dashed over to him. She stood in front with her axe covering up their bodies.
* Clang *
It sounded like metal hit metal when the snake's fangs made contact with her axe.
The impact was so great that the two went flying backwards.

James took more damage than Mercury did since his defense points being much lower than hers.
* Ding, resisted poison debuff *
Mercury sighed in relief. "Thank god I didn't get poisoned; normal snake's poison deals a lot of damage. I don't want to find out how strong his is."
"Oh? The great Reaper didn't pick up some antidote before leaving town?" teased James.
Mercury glared at James, "When did you get the courage to tease me? Not everyone is as rich as you are. They are expensive! Also I didn't get my gold while I was anywhere near town. I completed my quest at the temple of Apollo deep in available zones."
"What is the highest zone you been in?" he was very curious.
She had a look of anger on her face, "The temple is all the way in zone 45. I was not able to kill anything in zones higher than 25 back then. It was humiliating having to run away from everything trying to complete my quest..."
All the while they were talking the fight continued. The snake had become wary of the duo. It had started dodging attacks.
The attacks that did land did little to no damage since the snake parried, blocked, or activated its defense skill.
The snake's HP was still very high at 5,865 / 8,500. They had to step up their game.
James fired four fireballs towards the snake's head. He offset their position so that they covered a wider area. He wanted to block the snake's vision rather than actually do damage.
Noticing what James was going Mercury dashed towards the snake leaving cracks in the ground below her. He closely followed behind the fireballs to use them an an opening.
The snake brought up it's tail to block the fireballs from hitting it's face.
* Bang Bang Bang Bang *
All four fireballs hit the snake's massive tail.

Before the snake could lower its tail Mercury had arrived in front of the snake. [Crushing Assault] she called out.
She cleaved at the snake's tail with her glowing axe hoping land another massive blow.
* Screech! *
* Thud *
The axe sliced right through the end of the snake's tail cutting it off. The snake wailed out in pain while the tail fell to the ground.

Both James and Mercury's eyes almost hell out of their sockets.
The snake started to thrash around. Mercury had to quickly retreat to avoid the unpredictable attacks.
* Smash *
The snake hit everything that was too close to it while it was failing around. It knocked down several trees and broke some boulders.
James did not want to waste any time. He created three more fireballs and drank a mana potion to restore his mana. He tossed the vial which broke once it hit the ground.
"What a waste of a silver coin" winced Mercury.
The fireballs crashed into the snake's side.

"Stop wasting time, if you want to get back on the leaderboards we need to find more elites after this one!" James mocked Mercury.
"Hmmph, I should have tossed you into the snake's mouth on the way down the cliff." pouted Mercury.
She leapt into the air to avoid the snake's wild failing. She then transformed her giant axe back into a polearm and threw it at the snake.
* Rumble*
The polearm penetrated what was left of the snake's tail. It was pinned to the ground; it was not able to trash around now.

The snake hissed out in pain again. Its eyes were bloodshot and filled with hatred. It quickly readied itself to strike at Mercury.
Once again as the snake was about to hit Mercury a fireball crashed into it. The snake's fangs missed Mercury but the edge of its head still hit her causing damage.

"Hey! You couldn't shoot two fireballs to completely deflect its attack" Mercury said in an annoyed voice.
"Sorry! I was about to but it got too close to you!"
Mercury briefly gave him a side-eye.
[I don't believe that for a second, he is a little vengeful isn't he?]
Taking advantage that the snake's head was right next to her, Mercury lifted both hands above her head and clasped her hands together.
She quickly swung her arms down and smashed her fists into the snakes head. A small crack appeared on top of its head and it crashed into the ground.

As she came in for a landed she struck out with a pick. When she landed the kick on the snake the ground below it collapsed under the impact of her landed.

She noticed some fireballs flying over so she flipped back into the air. The fireballs flew beneath her and landed on the snake.

The snake removed itself from the small creator and lashed out at the polearm that bound it to the ground.
It pulled the polearm out of the ground and its body and hurled it into the air.
Mercury looked worried. Her weapon was too high in the air for her to catch it in time to block the snakes attack. Its fangs doubled in size and were glowing a vibrant green.
She prepared for the worse by bringing her arms up to attempt to block the snake.
* Clang Clang Clang *
She looked up into the air and was nearly hit with her own weapon. She had to lean her body to the side to catch the polearm. She saw traces of smoke hanging in the air.
James had shot fireballs into the air and targeted the polearm. He directed it to land next to Mercury.
She switched to an offensive stance with the top of the polearm near the ground.
[Crushing Assault]!
She swung the polearm in an upward arc in front of her. It was directed directly at the incoming snake.
At the very last moment she transformed the polearm back into the axe.
* Rip *
The snake's momentum made it continue in Mercury's direction even after its death. Her final attack split the snake's head into two.
Her weapon had remained in the air and since a body in motion stays in motion the axe continued to cut through the snake's entire body as it moved. The two halves passed by Mercury while she was in the middle.

Mercury leveled up to level 18 while James leveled from 13 to 16.
Mercury turned around to look at the two half of the snake then she looked at James.
She put on a large smile and skipped her wave over to him.
To James she looked like a demon. She was covered in blood with a cheerful look in her eyes and a smile on her face. He felt a cold chill go down his back.
She quickly arrived in front of James. She held her axe behind her back and was once again on her tippy-toes. She was slightly leaned forward showing her modest cleavage.
James had saw it and quickly looked away directing his vision to the dead snake.
Mercury noticed what happened and knew she had successfully teased him but wanted more. She using one hand she reached up to James's cheek and directed his vision back to her.
He attempted to be sneaky and get another quick peak at her chest but was caught. Mercury instantly noticed were he looked and the guilty look on his face. "Such a guilty look on your face. Do you like what you see?" spoke in a coquettish tone.
James tried to turn his head away but she prevented him. James was not bothered by the fact that she had splotches of blood all over her. In fact he found it charming. [The blood matches her somehow]
Seeing that James zoned out irritated her. [Fine, I will tease you even more!]
She dropped the axe that was behind her and lightly jumped into the air and wrapped her arms around James's neck.
He was caught off guard and stumbled backwards and tripped. He was now laying on the ground with Mercury on top of him.
She had a teasing look in her eyes. [Hmmph, you asked for it!]
James was shocked. He was so distracted by the warmth he felt on his body and the view he had that he temporarily lost control of himself. Before Mercury could continue to tease him he unknowingly reached out his one of his hands and cupped her face.
"The blood just accents your appearance." Said James as his thoughts leaked out. He then continued to wipe off the only splotch of blood on her cheek. "However, it takes away from your face."
Mercury's eyes went wide and the coquettish look on her face disappeared. She quickly jumped off of James and spun around. She wanted to hide her blushing cheeks.
Quickly calming her emotions she turned back around to look at James, "Get up already! We have loot to collect!"
[Wait, what did I just say to her?] James felt his ears turn red just thinking about what he just said to her.
