Chapitre 38: Trio
As Lyra and Clara stepped out of their dorm, looking fierce and confident in their combat uniforms, they suddenly heard the sound of muffled sobs coming from a nearby room. Lyra's heart sank as she realized it was Lilith's voice, and without hesitation, she rushed towards the sound, her concern for her friend outweighing any other thoughts.
Clara, however, was more hesitant. "Lyra, don't feel bad for her," she said, her voice tinged with bitterness. "She's a Sanguine, and a mean one at that. She doesn't deserve your sympathy."
Lyra whirled around, her eyes flashing with anger and disappointment. "Clara, that's not fair. Just because she's a Sanguine doesn't mean she doesn't have feelings, or that she doesn't deserve our compassion. She's our friend, and she's hurting. We can't just ignore that."
Without waiting for a response, Lyra pushed open the door to Lilith's room, her heart breaking at the sight of the usually proud and confident girl curled up on her bed, her face streaked with tears.
"Lilith, what happened?" Lyra asked gently, sitting down beside her and placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Through her sobs, Lilith managed to explain that she had been kicked out of her Essence Tournament team after the incident with the other Sanguine girls. Her former friends wanted nothing to do with her, and she was left feeling alone and betrayed.
"And it's all because of you," Lilith said, her voice breaking as she looked up at Lyra and Clara. "If you hadn't interfered, if you had just left me alone, none of this would have happened."
Lyra felt a pang of guilt, knowing that her actions had unintentionally caused Lilith pain. But she also knew that she couldn't have stood by and watched her friend be bullied and mistreated, no matter the consequences.
"Lilith, I'm so sorry that you're hurting," Lyra said, her voice filled with empathy and understanding. "But please don't blame us for what happened. We were just trying to be there for you, to support you when you needed it most."
Lilith sniffled, wiping away her tears with the back of her hand. "I know," she said softly. "And I'm grateful for that, truly. But now I have nowhere to go, no one to compete with in the tournament."
Lyra's eyes widened as an idea struck her. "Lilith, why don't you join us?" she said, a smile spreading across her face. "Clara and I would be honored to have you on our team."
Clara looked startled, her mouth opening to protest. But something in Lyra's expression must have given her pause, because she simply nodded, a small smile of her own tugging at her lips.
"Yeah, Lilith," she said, her voice still a bit hesitant but sincere. "We'd love to have you with us. I know you're an incredible Essence user, and I know you'll be a valuable addition to our team."
Lilith looked up at them, her eyes wide with surprise and gratitude. "Really?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "You'd want me, even after everything that's happened?"
Lyra reached out, pulling Lilith into a tight hug. "Of course we want you," she said fiercely. "You're our friend, Lilith. And friends stick together, no matter what."
As the three girls embraced, their tears mingling with laughter and relief, Lyra felt a sense of unity and purpose that she had never experienced before. She knew that the road ahead would be challenging, that they would face obstacles and adversaries at every turn.
But she also knew that with Lilith and Clara by her side, she could face anything that came their way. They were more than just friends, more than just teammates.
