During homeroom, Shouta keeps an eye on his Problem Child, yesterday's incident still fresh in his mind. He seems fine at first glance, mood apparently already much better from what he can tell, and he acts a lot more like he usually did before the whole fiasco with his mother.
Bakugou, on the other hand, looks irritated. Or, at least, more irritated than usual. Kirishima keeps sending concerned glances his friend's way throughout the period. Shouta doesn't think the change is overly obvious at first glance; the blond is still loud, and mean, and overly aggressive, but there's a tick to his jaw that isn't there normally and he's quicker to react negatively to his peers.
Shouta didn't get Bakugou's version of the event, yet, so he reminds himself to ask him to meet when he has the time. After class, probably. Wait, no, he needs to speak to Midoriya first. Tomorrow at lunch, then. They need to have a talk about yesterday's altercation. Midoriya hasn't shared the specifics of why he reacted that way in front of his childhood friend, and with the state he was in, Shouta didn't think pushing for answers was the right course of action. He'll have to ask Bakugou his own point of view to get a better idea of what he's dealing with.
That's a matter for later Shouta, though.
Right now, he has something more pressing to tell the whole of his class.
"Work studies," he starts, and already he's got the attention of all twenty teenagers. "Last term, you went on a one week internship to follow and learn by watching heroes work. This term, you'll be going on work studies." He can feel the excitement filling his students, but he's trained them well enough that they wait until he's done with his announcement before letting loose. "You'll have the opportunity to merge your studies with outside of school real work to get full advantage of learning on the field under the supervision of an experienced mentor. Duration of work studies may vary, and any choice you make concerning this will be reviewed and corrected if necessary." There are already several hands raised, but he ignores them for the moment, not finished with his speech yet.
"Agencies and heroes you choose will need to be approved beforehand, and the schedule they'll give you will have to follow U.A.'s rules. The same goes for the mount of work you'll be subjected to while on duties." Shouta gathers a stack of papers and passes it absent-mindedly to Iida, who starts to distribute them among his classmates silently.
"With that said, work studies are entirely optional. It's good experience to have, but please keep in mind that you all have been targeted by the League of Villains, and that participating in work studies will inevitably augment the risks of incidents happening."
Thankfully, this little added reminder helps bring the excitement down to a more manageable level. If he's completely honest, he would have cancelled work studies for this semester if it was his decision to make. There's no way he'd send kids out there voluntarily, kids with targets painted on their backs.
He had said so as well during the last faculty meeting too, though in a less… friendly way.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me," Shouta spat as soon as Nedzu announced to go ahead as normal with the work studies. "You want to send them out there, with what happened this summer?" His growl is dangerous, and the easy-going atmosphere the meeting held until this point dissipated almost instantly. There was a tensed silence settling upon the room, and some of his colleagues looked uncomfortable, if not outright guilty. It was, surprisingly, All Might who hesitantly broke the silence. Hesitant, yes, but determination in his gaze as he set his sunken eyes on Shouta.
"I don't think… Aizawa, I really don't think that cancelling the work studies, in this situation, is what we should do." Shouta was glowering at the blond, but there was no trace of doubt in the man's posture.
"The league is targeting my students, and you seriously think I'm out of place to request that they stay safe?" Shouta grit his teeth, and it was only because Hizashi elbowed him in the ribs that he realized he was activating Erasure.
"Toshinori's right," Nedzu pitched in, though his usual toothy grin was absent. "If anything, your students need to be better prepared. And nothing beats learning by experience.
"They won't learn anything if they're dead," Shouta growled, but Nedzu continued without deigning that with an answer.
"They'll be learning directly under the wings of pro-heroes, with their staff and sidekicks. Plenty of people highly capable of keeping your students safe, if the need arises."
Shouta couldn't exactly argue that point, no matter how much he wanted to.
"I want to do a screening of the heroes chosen by the kids," he relented. He might not like the idea, but he can damn well do his best to make sure everything goes smoothly.
"We always do a screening," Snipe piped in, and Shouta shot him a venomous glare.
"I want to double check," he refuted with gritted teeth. "And," he added with a growl, but not before glancing once quickly towards Hound Dog's direction. "I want it to be optional."
"Optional? Wouldn't that put some of your students behind?" This time it was Midnight, but Shouta could tell it wasn't an objection to his demands. Rather, she was simply confused because if there was anyone here who always pushed their students to the max it was Shouta himself.
"I'm not sure all of them are ready to take this on yet," he admitted. "Besides, there's an active case going on and I've got a student involved."
"A case? Who is it?" Toshinori asked with worry, but Shouta just shook his head. It wasn't anyone's business, all they needed to know was that it was something to take into consideration.
"Nothing to concern yourself with, Toshinori," Nedzu said, before turning his beady eyes towards Shouta. "Very well, we'll do this your way."
