Now that I managed to master Arc's surveillance spell I can use it in a way I want to. First, I conjure up an eagle. But while conjuring it up I implement the eyeball spell on it. then as I connect to my surveillance spell I can see it from my eagle's point of view.
As I close my eyes I can see what my eagle is seeing. So, I will my eagle to fly higher and as it gets higher my range of vision extends. This will prove to be a tremendous any time I need to do a little bit of snooping.
Alder: "Now that I mastered your spell and got rid of the bats I think I will get out of this cave."
Arcturus: "What? You're leaving already?"
Alder: "Yes. There isn't much I can do in here. Tree says if I venture deeper into the cave I will simply become some beast's snack. So, I can only go back to the surface. And since you can hear tree now I'm sure you won't be as lonely."
Arcturus: "Well, I guess."
Alder: "See you Arc."
Arcturus: "See you too Alder."
After bidding Arc farewell, I get out of his cave and head for the exit. After almost getting lost I manage to exit the cave and see the lush green forest once more. As I take a deep breath forest's fresh air invades my lungs.
"Mm, feels good."
"Of course, it does. Unlike you humans we trees exude oxygen."
"Well, can't really argue with that."
After coming out of the cave I head back to tree. Coming down to my little space makes me feel nostalgic.
"Now what do I do. I suppose getting out of this forest is still out of question, right?"
"Yup, if you cross the second boundary you will become a snack. That is for sure."
"You always know how to comfort me."
"Wasn't my intention. Anyway, there is someone who wants to meet you and ask you a favor. And if you manage to gain his favor then you will have chance to leave here."
"Who? What? And why?"
"I will just call him here and you two can talk."
"That will work too I suppose. How long do you think that someone will take to get here?"
"Give or take an hour."
Well, suppose I can use that time.
After almost two hours of training does the mysterious person appears.
And this was not what I was expecting. In front of me I see an adorable little fox with nine tails. But even more strange thing is my instinct is screaming at me to run from this adorable fox.
Alder: "Nine-tailed fox. Always thought you would be bigger."
As I say that disdainful look flashes across the fox's eyes and it starts to talk with deep voice that is unsuited to its adorable frame.
Fox: "My name is Altrandil, you cretin. And I take this form for The World Tree demanded it."
Shit it's one of those pretentious pricks with their noses stuck up their you know what.
Alder: "Well then, sorry for my rudeness Alt."
Altrandil: "Who are you calling "Alt" you cretin?"
Alder: "Who are you calling cretin Alt?"
Tree: "Enough of your squabble. Alt state your business already.
Altrandil: "Not you too. Well then, since The World Tree demands it. Human child I need a favor from you."
Alder: "Okay, then let's hear it."
Altrandil: "I need you to retrieve something for me. Something very precious to me. About four days ago I dropped something important to me during a fight. After realizing that I lost it I searched for it and found it in north side of the forest where avians live. But problem is the nest is in secondary boundary of the forest so I can't just waltz in there and retrieve it. So, I need you to go there and retrieve it for me."
Alder: "Why can't you retrieve it yourself."
Altrandil: "I live in outer region of the forest so I can't cross the boundary. If I do the World Tree will kill me. Many before me tried that and got killed on the spot. So, only way I can enter inner region is to use projection. I'm not myself just a fragment of my will. That's why I need you to go and retrieve it."
Alder: "Can't you just get someone who lives in second boundary to help you?"
Altrandil: "Those that live in second boundary are not bright enough to help me retrieve it. So, as I was about to give up the World Tree recommended you to me."
Alder: "Really? This firewood?"
Tree: "I just wanted you to leave quickly."
Alder: "That's more like it. Alright then, tell me where is it. I think I can enter the second boundary now. What do you think?"
Tree: "Well, at least you won't become someone's snack if you're lucky enough."
Alder: "Thanks for your vote of confidence. Anyway, what is it you want me to retrieve? And where can I find it?"
Altrandil: "It's a fang. Don't know why a birdbrain would want it. Maybe because of its energy signature. Or maybe because it was shiny. I don't know. Frankly birds are not bright animals. If you head north and cross the second boundary I will guide you there myself. What you need to do is enter the nest of the bird that took my fang and bring it to me."
Alder: "Okay. That's simple enough. But, what's the deal with the fang? Is it yours?"
Altrandil: "I was my father's. It doesn't have any special property. But it is a last memento of my father. I can't just let it rot in some birdbrain's nest."
Alder: "Okay. I personally think it's pointless. But no judgement. So, if I manage to get you your memento, what do I get."
Altrandil: "The World Tree says that you want to leave the forest. So, if you manage to get me my father's memento I will let go through my territory safely."
Alder: "Okay, deal."
Altrandil: "Deal."
Alder: "So, first I need to know what kind of birds I will be facing. Second, how strong they are."
Altrandil: "They are forest crows. For me they are what mosquitos are to you. But for you I don't know how strong they are."
Alder: "Hey tree got anything to say."
Tree: "Even though you're astoundingly weak I suppose you're capable enough to kill a few birds now."
Alder: "Once again your vote of confidence is appreciated. Okay then shall we go?"
