"Hahahaha..." Gao Fei laughed again when he heard Li Teng's question, though this time his laughter was somewhat awkward.
Li Teng stayed quiet, waiting for him to finish laughing.
"After getting off the helicopter, I was checking my points on the terminal when a task suddenly popped up to play a prank on newcomers. Of course, it was also a task to help newcomers get points, so I just took it on the spot," Gao Fei explained to Li Teng.
"I was pranked too when I first came to the island, and now it was my turn to prank the newcomers."
"The task told me your arrival location and how to operate within the wax museum, like moving some wax figures to block the door, or making all the wax figures look at someone in the room."
"If I successfully pranked a newcomer, making them pee their pants out of fear, I would be rewarded with 5 points."
"Not making the newcomer pee themselves, but instead making them so angry they beat me up, would also net me 5 points."
"Additionally, telling the newcomer the rules of filming and successfully bringing them to the film set would earn me another 5 points."
"So, whether I scared you into peeing your pants or provoked you to give me a good thrashing, I could still get 5 points. Then by answering your questions and taking you to the film set, I could get another 5 points."
"Earning these 10 points was too easy, so I was very happy at that time," Gao Fei detailed the reason why he was happy despite getting beaten up.
"I think you're just naturally masochistic," Li Teng said mockingly as he glared at Gao Fei.
"Brother Tang still hasn't answered my question, how did you pick me out of all those wax figures earlier?" Gao Fei changed the subject.
"All the other wax figures were moving their bodies smoothly and silently, without making a sound, only you were walking on two feet, how could I not notice?" Li Teng replied to Gao Fei.
"But I was clearly behind you, only moving quietly when you were engrossed in observing the paintings. I didn't notice you looking back at all..." Gao Fei was still somewhat puzzled.
"Those painted frames had metallic borders as shiny as mirrors. You think I was just looking at paintings? I was checking what's happening behind me," Li Teng revealed the answer.
"That's it! Brother Tang is truly an expert!" Gao Fei gave Li Teng a thumbs-up.
Li Teng had an expression of 'well, duh'... In that situation, only a fool wouldn't pay attention to their surroundings.
"I guess your surname isn't Tang and your name isn't Donna, right?" Gao Fei looked at Li Teng and sniggered.
"Li Teng, Mu Zi Li, the 'Teng' from 'soaring'," Li Teng disclosed his real name.
"Brother Li, good to meet you. I arrived just a few days before you and don't have much in terms of experience. It's said that familiarity breeds fondness, and having one more friend means one more path. If we can help each other out in the film set when everyone is looking out for themselves, let's do it." Gao Fei stopped and reached out his hand to Li Teng.
Li Teng shook hands with him, accepting it as making peace for the earlier prank.
"By the way, today's shooting starts at twelve noon. The film is called 'Furious Speed on Desperate Road.' As extras, we're just participating in a minor scene. If the role we play doesn't get killed off after this minor scene, we'll be rewarded with 10 points. As for the specific plot and the roles we'll play... no one knows until they participate," Gao Fei officially introduced today's shoot to Li Teng.
"Furious Speed on Desperate Road? Sounds like a racing scene. It doesn't quite match the style of the posters I saw in the wax museum," Li Teng raised a question.
"Brother Li is really observant to notice that. Hehe, the wax museum stores primarily actors who died in disaster movies. There are many such wax museums on this island, storing different genres like horror, sci-fi, action, and so on. If we shoot 'Furious Speed on Desperate Road' and get killed, we won't end up in the disaster movie section but likely in the action or racing movie section," Gao Fei answered Li Teng.
"How likely is it that the characters we play today in the film will end up 'boxed lunches'?" Li Teng asked a key question.
"Not very likely. With new people joining, the difficulty is usually very low. In normal circumstances, only one or two out of eight actors would get killed off, unless they do something stupid or reckless during the performance; then there's nothing that can be done," Gao Fei shook his head.
"If I survive today's film set, can I also take on tasks to prank newcomers for points in the future?" Li Teng thought of another question.
"Yes."
"How do we snatch it up? Is there a trick?"
"Heh, there's no special trick, just that after you get off the helicopter and arrive at Film and Television City, hurry to the terminal on the street, any one will do. After inserting your card, if there's a yellow question mark on the edge of the screen, it means there's an extra task available. This... seems to be entirely a matter of luck. Just as you came over, I happened to turn on the terminal and got this task."
"I see."
"Okay, we've arrived at the set!"
As they spoke, the two of them had come near a cafe in the center of the street.
Li Teng had been carefully observing his surroundings all the way here. Many signposts along the road indicated the locations of the sets. Next time, even if there's no one to lead the way, he could follow the signs to the sets on his own.
Outside the cafe of the set, there was a large high Round Table, with several people already seated on the High Stools beside it.
This time, they were all living people who could move. Some were chatting animatedly, some looked bewildered, while others appeared somewhat dejected.
On two seats inside, a man and a woman were sitting, wearing large sunglasses; the woman also wore a wide-brimmed hat. Both were dressed in very fashionable clothing, giving off the vibe of big shots from the entertainment circle.
Those who looked bewildered, clueless, or dejected were mostly newcomers like Li Teng.
In front of each person, there was a steaming cup of coffee on the table.
There were two empty seats by the side of the street, and Gao Fei led Li Teng to sit down there.
It was also 11:59 AM, just one minute away from the start of filming.
Li Teng quickly counted; just like he had seen on the poster, there were eight people in total, including himself, sitting around the Round Table. It seemed like this was the full cast for today's scene.
Life is like a play; Li Teng never imagined that one day he would actually become an actor.
"The coffee doesn't cost any points, right?" Li Teng whispered to Gao Fei next to him.
"No cost."
"Can we get refills?"
"Yes," Gao Fei said, pointing to the coffee machine by the wall.
Upon hearing that it didn't cost any points and that refills were available, Li Teng quickly picked up the coffee in front of him.
It's free, so why not drink it.
Too bad it was too hot to drink quickly.
Li Teng could only vigorously blow on the coffee and took the chance to look around.
Next to the cafe was a wide street, and right in front of the cafe was a pedestrian path.
No one was walking on the side of the street, and there were no vehicles on the road itself.
Dozens of drones with pan-tilt cameras were hovering in the air around the people, filming everything on the scene from all angles.
"Hello everyone, I'm the on-site director for the scene 'Furious Speed on Desperate Road', and I'd like to give you all a brief introduction to the performance you're about to undertake," a woman's voice suddenly rang out, interrupting Li Teng's ongoing observation.
