Chapitre 26: Portals - arc rise of the light kingdom

---

Once out of that meeting with Calil, Talion is still under pressure. With the enemy armies ever closer to assault and the war ready to explode, in order not to waste any seconds he heads straight to the forge in order to forge one of the artifacts on his list that will be most useful.

As he runs to the forge at full speed, the effects of his speech are immediate in the city.

His people are bustling, working hand in hand to get things moving faster and for the fortress to be ready. Many people can be seen driving wheelbarrows, carrying heavy loads towards the construction sites.

Indeed, the prodigy that is Fram, along with Bregor, has created multiple inventions such as the wheelbarrow to facilitate construction.

In all this fervor that is observable, some people can be seen to have a more than strange behavior.

These men and women are dressed in white dresses with blue marks from the heart to the arms, legs and head.

They are distributing flyers to the population, but most people are not interested, preferring to work in order to prepare the fortress.

Although these people in white robes are very few, they are still proactive, and even if this group is negligible, they will try by all means to transmit their ideas.

...

Talion arrived at the forge and rushed into his room before taking out some of the ores from Khazad-dûm, he put them not far from his forge before preparing the plan he created earlier and putting it on a table next to his forge in sight.

After having taken some information and having redrawn some parts of his plan, he begins immediately his work.

He summons his 3 specters to assist him in his task.

Talion gives them precise orders, one of them is in charge of bringing the ores to the forge, these ores will then be melted by the two other specters in a meticulous process, having to respect the melting point of these ores.

Meanwhile, Talion manages the quantity of ores to be melted and prepares his tools.

Once the first metals have been melted, Talion begins his work.

He now possesses ores that are solid and able to conduct magic more easily, such as mithril, the iron of the dwarves, pure silver that allows for a much higher conduction of energy, or even gold from khazad dûm.

Having these new metals at his disposal, he will be able to carry out two projects that he has delayed until now but whose completion is essential.

The first one is the creation of a runic and almost unbreakable forge hammer, thanks to its runes it will allow him to forge with a greater precision, more quickly and with a great efficiency.

But the main advantage of this hammer lies in the creation of runes, indeed with conductive metals and therefore a greater capacity of magical flow, this hammer will allow its user to write runes more easily and quickly.

Talion starts to work without delay, having the plan in mind, he begins the creation of his hammer.

Not being a big artifact, some might think that it is a quick process, but it is more than difficult and time consuming.

Wanting one of the best hammers possible, Talion focuses on every detail, polishing his work and injecting just the right amount of magic at each step.

Wishing a satisfying result, he forges the runes meticulously so that they are perfect and conduct his magic perfectly.

In order for this hammer to be suitable for his magic, he leaves his magic mark in the runes, which will facilitate the magic conduction even more.

...

Once all the process is finished, Talion is happy with the result, the hammer is as he expected, thanks to it he can now start his second project.

For this second project Talion wants to create an artifact that will allow his army or people to travel a long distance.

On paper, it is a kind of flat stone that can be placed on the ground with a central pillar that allows to enter coordinates.

The objective is to facilitate the transport of troops and merchandise, and to avoid any transport problems in times of war, thus ensuring the smooth running of the production facilities.

To do this, Talion first wants to forge the basic structure, which must be perfect and flawless. It must allow mana to accumulate properly and be absorbed by runes in order to continuously power the portal.

To do this he uses a mixture of gold, platinum, silver, but also a few grams of mithril to solidify the whole.

Once the armature is complete, the next step on the list is the realization of the internal part, to do this Talion uses a new process that he himself has theorized in his spare time.

He forges special shaped pieces on which he inscribes the runes directly before the metal even has time to cool down.

While one of his specters is forging the metal, he uses large amounts of magic to encode the runes as quickly as possible.

In order for the portal to work, dozens or even hundreds of micro-runes are needed.

These runes are divided into several categories.

The first is the absorption of mana into the environment, the absorption must be interconnected with the demand for mana. This means that in order to keep the portal active, a certain amount of mana is required, and then, depending on the number of people passing through it in the direction of another portal, a certain amount of mana will be used again.

That's why several runes are needed to detect the required amount of mana in order to absorb and attract the optimal amount of mana.

All this requires a lot of coding work.

Then the main runes of operation.

They must give a form, a consistence, and connect two portals together with a spatial magic.

Although Talion knows very little about space magic, thanks to Celebrimbor's experience and his own, he is able to create a kind of space beacon that gives coordinates on a specific plane.

All you have to do is identify its coordinates and create a bridge between the two.

On paper the theory is quite simple, but in action it is quite difficult to implement.

In order to create this bridge, Talion relies on the spell that he has written in his teleport rings. He remodels the spell and matches it so that he can teleport any object in contact with the portal directly to the other side.

This whole system has to be coded in several runes in order to be functional and this with a very high speed, since the metals must not cool down before the process is finished.

Fortunately, due to his great reserve of magic and experience, Talion was able to codify the entire runic system in the required time.

Then he puts it in place inside the stone.

Wishing to test this portal, Talion goes outside and lays his artifact gently on the ground.

Then, he accesses the interface on the control pillar. Thanks to a rune allowing the entry of coordinates, he can enter the coordinates of another portal, but having only one, he uses it without coordinates in order to see if the portal forms well, even if it cannot be crossed because it has no destination.

Once the process is started, the portal lights up as expected, and Talion feels the runes inside absorbing magic from the surroundings.

Deciding that his test was successful, he returns to the forge to create more.

...

Once there, he orders part of the army to stay in place while another part, along with the Balrog, goes through the gate towards Cirith Ungol.

Once the army is in place and has accomplished its major objective, he returns to Nurn and goes to find Idril.

Although she has a lot of work to do, Talion needs her, after all Idril is a very competent person and Talion can count on her.

Sensing Talion's presence, Idril turns to him and gives him a hug while kissing him.

Talion, caught off guard, can only accept this gesture of affection, which he returns with passion.

Then, Idril detaches herself from him by asking " You need me, my love? "

"Yes my dear, I have created portals to travel between our cities, I need you to organize the transit, here are the coordinates" he said by giving her a map with the location of different portals, they are located in areas easy to access, but the portals not being lit are not easily spotted.

The goal for Talion is to be able to use them whenever he wants, but when a portal is unused, it can only be turned on by him or one of his generals carrying his magic mark. The main purpose is to protect the portals and the knowledge they contain.

"You will find a stele at each coordinate, on this stele by using some of your magic on the control rune above, you will be able to see an interface only you can access, in it, you will be able to enter coordinates, enter the one I wrotte on the paper".

"Okay, I'll take care of it, it will help us a lot, have you already informed the others or not?" she asks

"No, you're the first, even if I would like to spend more time with you, I must go to inform them as soon as possible, I also have to go to see Baranor and Calil" he says by taking her hand, a little disappointed not to be able to spend more time with his beloved.

"Don't worry my love, we'll have plenty of time once everything is over, I know you're doing your best" she said reassuring Talion, not the least bit worried.

"Thank you for your kindness, well, now that I've seen you and I've regained my strength, it's time to go on, we don't have much time left, they'll attack soon Cirith Ungol" he said in a serious tone, looking into her eyes, lost in her beautiful blue eyes

"Okay, I will prepare everything needed, I let you manage the rest" she said laughing

And so, after having discussed with Idril, Talion leaves immediately to meet his followers.
