Damon was still driving down the city streets when a group of two men and two women blocked the road and he couldn't go around since poorly designed stone pillars were on the sidewalk blocking his advance.
"Step out of the vehicle and you won't get hurt. We just need the truck." A middle-aged man wearing a tight blue t-shirt and blue jeans said while pointing a small Glock 43 pistol at the truck.
The only reason he was doing this was because their vehicles had been taken while they were out eating at a restaurant and the streets were beginning to get crazy and they all needed to get back home as they had family and kids home alone.
Damon looked at the group of four and knew they meant no real harm but unfortunately, he couldn't allow them to take his only transportation along with all of his gear.
He would have already driven through them, but the man would potentially fire into the windshield and a bullet could hit him or Cassie and he couldn't allow that chance.
"P-please d-dont shoot. Im g-onna open the door." Damon said with a shaky voice making the man with the gun slightly lower his guard and the gun in his hand slightly went down a little so it was aiming more at the ground than at Damon and Cassie.
Damon slowly reached down toward the door handle but what they couldnt see was him actually reaching for the AR that was under his trench coat.
Slowly Damon got a hand on the grip and a finger on the trigger of the AR before he whispered to Cassie.
"Get down on the signal."
"Hurry up." The mans guard was raised once again as he raised his pistol to the windshield once again aiming at Damon and Cassie.
"Yeah, just one-
Damon quickly pulled and raised the AR over and onto his shoulder with the AR sideways while firing off multiple suppressive shots into the windshield making the glass shatter everywhere and the sound of bullets firing made his ears ring inside of his head.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Damon continued to lay suppressive fire toward the group before quickly opening the driver's side door and leaning his body out where the A pillar of the truck and the door made an opening allowing him to clearly see the situation.
The man who had the gun was already down on the ground but still alive while the other man went reaching for the gun and the two women just ran toward the man who had been downed obviously panicking.
Bang!
Bang!
Damon sent two shots into the man reaching toward the gun sending him to the ground dead. Damon quickly glanced sideways and saw Cassie was okay and was now also opening her door as was the perfect time to get out of the vehicle.
Damon quickly got out of the truck and slowly advanced toward the group with his gun raised and sent two bullets into the man who had already been downed but only injured.
With both main targets down Damon knew Cassie would be covering the area for anyone else so he quickly aimed at the woman who had run toward the dead man and killed her before looking at the last woman who had started to run away toward a clothing building.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Damon fired three shots and saw the blood of the women paint the concrete red letting him know she was down.
Damon quickly assessed the area and found Cassie near the rear of the truck also looking to see if anyone else appeared.
"We're clear let's move before anyone or anything shows up," Damon said to Cassie who holstered her pistol into her waistband and nodded.
Damon went to the back seat of his truck and yanked out to hospital mask from his duffle bag before putting one on and tossing the other to Cassie.
"Don't want to breathe in the glass," Damon explained to Cassie who looked confused.
"Yes, I suppose that would suck a lot," Cassie said while putting on her mask and hopping back into the truck that now had bullet holes in the windshield and glass all over the dash.
Damon put a fresh magazine into his AR before they drove off and finally reached the highway and toward his uncle's secret cabin in the woods that he called the Eagle's nest.
Luckily for them, the highways were still relatively empty but that couldn't be said for long as the city quickly sunk into chaos.
Damon, whose adrenaline was still a tad high looked over to Cassie who appeared fine but was quiet.
"You, okay?" Damon asked making Cassie look over at him.
"I should be asking you that. You didn't really have to kill those two women, they would have probably died later anyway." Cassie said and Damon nodded.
Both of them had already developed a steady mindset years ago meaning killing these people was perfectly justified in their minds and they didn't really care for any other viewpoint on the matter.
But they still felt the emotions of killing another human and they didn't like that feeling but if they only ever did what they liked they would be the ones whose bodies bled out on the pavement.
"You know me," Damon smirked at Cassie making her roll her eyes.
"Yes, your paranoia and snoopy tendencies have never alluded me, Damon." Cassie laughed while watching Damon's smirk turn into a frown.
"Hey, I'm not snoopy!"
Cassie guffawed at the remark and looked at Damon who was looking away guilty.
"You don't think I know when stuff in my room has been moved or misplaced?" Cassie raised a brow and Damon nodded.
"Alright, you caught me."
"And you want to tell me why you were in my underwear drawer," Cassie smirked and Damon almost lost the wheel.
"Bullshit!
Cassie gave him a stern look.
"I was just making sure no one planted any listening devices or anything." Damon relented while coming up with a quick excuse.
"Mmm," Cassie hummed and decided to let Damon off the hook even though she knew he was bullshitting.
Honestly, she didn't even care and kind of liked it but she would never tell Damon that.
"Let me guess you probably thought up a whole story about how those two women would probably miraculously survive and come back for revenge on us, is that it?" Cassie said making Damon chuckle.
"You read my thoughts exactly," Damon said before finally a while later they drove down a dirt road in the woods and pulled up in front of a nice wood cabin with a brick chimney.
