The door groaned as it opened, revealing a darkness so deep it seemed to swallow the light. Alysia hesitated on the threshold, her breath quickening.
"This… this can't be real," she muttered.
A low rumble answered her—a sound that sent vibrations through the ground beneath her feet.
"You woke me for this? A trembling child?" The voice was sharp, cutting through the still air like a blade.
Alysia's eyes darted around, trying to pinpoint the source. "Who's there? Show yourself!"
The room began to glow faintly, an eerie crimson light illuminating the massive chamber. Chains as thick as tree trunks hung from the ceiling, each one leading to a figure seated on a throne of jagged stone. His head was tilted back, dark hair cascading over his shoulders, his eyes shut.
Alysia gasped. "You're—"
"Aragos," the figure interrupted, his voice a growl. His eyes snapped open, piercing gold that burned with intensity.
Alysia stumbled back. "This isn't happening. You're supposed to be—"
"Dead?" Aragos smirked, his chains rattling as he leaned forward. "Cursed, little witch. Not dead. There's a difference."
She took another step back, her heart pounding. "I didn't mean to—"
"To what? Awaken me? Disturb my rest?" His voice rose, filling the chamber with a booming echo. "Do you know how long I've waited for this moment?"
"I—" Alysia's words caught in her throat.
Aragos stood, his towering figure casting a shadow over her. The chains pulled taut, holding him back, but the power radiating from him was suffocating.
"You don't even know, do you?" he said, his tone shifting to something almost amused. "What kind of witch are you? Ignorant, reckless… pathetic."
Alysia bristled despite her fear. "I'm not pathetic!"
He raised an eyebrow. "Really? Then tell me, little one, what spell did you use to open my tomb?"
"I…" She faltered.
He laughed—a low, menacing sound. "Exactly as I thought. A child playing with forces she doesn't understand."
Alysia clenched her fists. "I didn't come here to release you. I just wanted to—"
"To what? Study me? Take notes on the monster in the tomb?" His voice dripped with mockery. "Well, congratulations. Now you're part of the story."
The chains groaned as he pulled against them, taking a step closer. "You woke me. That means you're responsible for me. Tell me, little witch, do you have any idea what that means?"
Alysia swallowed hard. "I—I can fix this. I'll put you back to sleep."
He threw his head back and laughed, the sound echoing like thunder. "You? Put me back to sleep? Oh, this is rich."
"I mean it!" she snapped, her fear giving way to frustration. "I'll find a way!"
Aragos's laughter subsided, and his expression turned cold. "You truly don't understand, do you? You think this is a game? My awakening isn't something you can undo, girl. The moment you touched my tomb, you sealed your fate—and mine."
Her voice trembled. "What do you mean?"
"The curse is broken," he said simply. "And now, the world will remember what it means to fear."
Alysia stumbled out of the tomb, her legs weak and her mind racing. The night air was cold against her skin, but it did little to calm her.
"Get it together, Alysia," she whispered to herself, clutching her dagger. "You have to warn the others."
A shadow passed over her, and she froze.
"You're not going anywhere," Aragos said, stepping out of the tomb behind her.
She spun around, her dagger raised. "Stay back!"
He tilted his head, a smirk playing on his lips. "Do you think that little blade will stop me?"
She tightened her grip. "I'll try."
His expression darkened. "I admire your spirit, but you'd do well to remember your place. You woke me. That makes you mine."
"Yours?" she spat. "I belong to no one."
His eyes flashed with something unreadable. "You'll learn soon enough."
Before she could react, he raised a hand, and the air around her seemed to solidify. She gasped as an invisible force pulled her toward him, her dagger slipping from her fingers.
"Let me go!" she shouted, struggling against the magic.
He leaned in close, his voice a low growl. "You don't give orders here, little witch. From this moment on, you're bound to me."
Alysia glared at him, her defiance burning brighter than her fear. "You don't scare me."
His smirk returned. "We'll see how long that lasts."
