{Hearth Area of Camp Half-blood, July 12, 2007}
A trio of Harlequin, Annabeth, and Charles stood around a sizable table while forms of construction took place around them. Blueprints were donned on the table with various designs and ideas that were talked about. "Something like this would appeal to the area, especially with the lake nearby. We can have a wooden awning there that we can design with draping in browns, oranges, and reds for Lady Heista. Outside of that, we can place fountains so that there are more areas where we can make Iris Calls. Charles, how is cabin 9 doing on inventory for the build?" Annabeth asked with a pencil behind her ear looking at the older boy.
The boy in question grunted, "We are doing well. We have put in orders with Hermes Deliveries, We also use King's name on the order form so we get them a little faster than usual if we add Hepateaus Cabin. We have different wood, marble, granite, and cement mix styles, and we have almost everything to get going on building. The foundations are still getting settled If everything goes to plan we can have everything done ." Charles then looked at King who was deep in thought. "King we have the 4 marble slabs you requested along with the large block of marble. Though I am still curious about what you will use those for."
King finally was brought out of his thoughtful look. "The cube of marble will be shaped by me and slowly add the seals and runes needed to form and maintain the barrier along with other features, The slabs are for a different project that will be placed around the hearth. I am sure that you know about the Vietnam War Wall Memorial. I am planning to sync the walls to the ward stone, from there it will take notice of everyone at the camp and put their names on the wall it will also allow us to see if the people are alive or not. So at the start of every year, it will auto engrave the near year, and anyone that crosses the border and is housed inside a cabin. Along with that as people are claimed even if they are in cabin 11 the symbol of power will appear next to the demigod's name of whatever god claimed them or even if they are a god's champion." King explained making Annabeth and Charles stare at him with surprised expressions.
"The memorial is a good idea do you think Hestia would agree with it? After all, we are supposed to bring focus to the Hearth." Annabeth questioned.
"I would like to think so because it pays tribute to those who have passed along the years. After all, they are still family even if they are not with us anymore. We are all equal in death." King said sagely.
"Woah that's deep man I think that is a great idea though. So for the ward room what about that?" Charles asked now drawing attention to him.
"I plan to ward and seal the room with so many different runes, seals, and anything else I can think of. The hearth will allow us to maintain the barrier a little more. I will also make the seals so that no one can look into the room even if we say their name. Besides Lady Hestia of course. The only people who will be able to enter the room are Cabin heads, Chiron, and anyone else with proper approval. This room will be constantly secured we probably add some automation to ensure that no one can be influenced to gain entry." King shed the light on the plans a little more.
"Woah this thing is going to be a bunker. Wait a moment what if we make a large bunker just in case, after all with the things that are going on with the tree and barrier we can have a bunker just in case added with all of the enchantments that you have planned for the wardroom." Annabeth interjected as a metaphoric lightbulb went off in her head.
King nodded in agreement. "We can put it in between the mess and the cabins. So that it is near the most traffic and people can get to it easily, we can also add tunnels near the Big House and the training grounds for easy evacuation. For now, let us get the projects that are going on finished. The barrier will cover the area around all the cabins and the hearth until we can charge it more so we can restrict the movement of the younger kids in this area and then have escorts to the mess to ensure that no one can get hurt. Until the barrier expands or until the tree situation is fixed. On the bright side once the two barriers are in sync nothing but the strongest deity will be able to break in while we are in passive mode."
"Passive mode?" Charles and Annabeth both question. King just smirked in response.
"I am surprised that Tantalus has not shown up questioning everything. Trying to shut us down." Annabeth suddenly thought.
King snorted, "Even if he tries I will chuck him into the lake, Maybe then he will be able to get something to drink at least." Charles chuckled at the younger boy and then dismissed himself to look at the current progress of laying the foundations.
"So now can I see the rune work that you are going to be using?" Annabeth asked.
"No, you are advanced enough to understand it honestly it is a combination of a few things Greek, Atlantic, Kenji, and some others that bring simple functions but will help spread the power for distribution. Plus some blanketing runes to add layers. So in the end all they will show are the different symbols of power of the Gods. It will be a masterpiece once it is done. I can give you a list of some of the things that the barrier will accomplish look over them and let me know. For now, I need to give Mr. D an update. After all, I am pumping a lot of magical energy to obtain the Mist to ensure people do not look this way." King started to walk away from the table and then stopped at the burning torch of the hearth's flame. It was the solution that Hestia and King agreed upon. They moved the flame to a pure silver torch untouched but Hestia. King for the last two days and offered something to the flame. Walking to the torch he saw Hestia in her 15-year-old form that she usually took around him, there looking at the fire which was going strong. "Hestia it is good to see you today." He greeted with a small smile.
She tore her gaze away from the flame to meet his eyes. "Hello, Harlequin I am just ensuring my flame is being kept. Also to look at the designs you have come up with. I must say it is rather warming to see that you wish to remember those who have lived in the camp. And the designs Annabeth came up with are very beautiful something worthy of a child of Athena." She talked softly looking at him.
"I understand you still feel uncertain about the situation with your flame Hestia but correct me if I am wrong but they did this in ancient times when they rebuilt hearths in Greece," King said in a soothing tone. She nodded at that fact in agreeance.
"True however many of those flames went out I just hope it does not happen to this one. For if it does I fear what might happen to the camp." Hestia chirped out with concern in her voice. King did not reply he just walked to the goddess and wrapped her in a soft hug. She sighed into the comforting embrace.
"I will not allow anything to happen to your flame. After all, who am I to allow my best friend to potentially get hurt." He spoke in a soft voice.
"I thought Annabeth was your best friend." She responded in a teasing voice.
King scoffed back to her playfully, "I can have multiple best friends!" She started to giggle at the boy's response which made him smile at the change of attitude. "We should have everything done by the 17th which is 5 days. 5 days and you should have your Hearth flame back into its proper position and new home anything that is below your flame we can still work on the underground. She smiled at the thought of getting her new hearth area.
"You have done great work here King I look forward to the results. I know my Best Friend will not disappoint me." She gave him one more tight squeeze before letting go and vanishing into flames. King held his smile and then tossed two pelts from hell hounds into the fire as a sacrifice to the goddess before leaving.
{Big House}
King walked into the Big House to see Mr. D sipping a can of Diet Coke and Tantalus looking at the drink in his hand with some envy. "Ah, Harlequin nice of you to stop by. I trust all is well." Mr D. said looking at the boy. King nodded in confirmation to which he hummed. "Good, Good, how long until the top side is done?" King repeated the timeline to Mr. D as Tantalus just glared at the boy.
"I still do not understand why this is happening Lord Dionysius the camp is fine there are no troubles." Tantalus waved off the whole situation.
"Well, it seems that my father, Lord Zeus, does not want his cabin to be touched after all even though she is trapped inside Thalia Grace is still alive and his daughter, and if the area is destroyed then his daughter might not be safe anymore." Mr. D drawled out.
"I will add the barrier around Zeus' Cabin to my list again to see if I can get it down again I have learned a couple more runes that should help me out." King inputted adding to his ongoing mental to-do list.
Tantalus scoffed at King, however, "About time too it seems that your procrastination and distraction on other projects have left that poor girl trapped for far too many years." King's mind momentarily stopped once those words left Tantalus' mouth. Killing intent flaring King directed it all at Tantalus. The sheer amount of hatred rolling off King even surprised Mr. D.
"Say something like that again you damn murder and I will send you back to the Fields of Punishment myself. I do not care who your father is nor what you did as you were alive, but make assumptions like that again and you will not ever show your face again in fact I might just throw you into the pit. Quite a few monsters are down there and I am sure they would love to get their claws on a Demigod." King's voice was barely above a whisper but his eyes were red fox slits as a little more killing intent made Tantalus pale and stumble back in fear. Dionysius cleared his throat and flexed his godly aura to cut through some of the killing intent coming from the Son of Demeter.
'Harlequin control yourself. It will do you no good to get rid of this fool the next person they bring might be just as bad' Isobu cut into King's thoughts. The boy let out a breath he did not know he was holding and the killing intent vanished instantly allowing the subject of its wrath to breathe.
"Make no mistake Tantalus you have no say over me or anyone else for that matter in the long wrong. You only get to decide when we have arts and crafts and when we have a campfire. Security and all other really important choices reside in Mr. D so you are not as important as you think you are." King finished his thought and left a mildly concerned Mr. D and a scared out-of-his-mind Tantalus behind in the Big House.
