The Palace - Same Morning, 4 AM

Gibraltr’s eyes popped open. He had heard his cell door open. Something was in his cell with him.

Still very early in the morning, the only light he could see by was the flickering torch light out in the hallway. Electrical lighting would have been much better, but he supposed the Sovereign preferred torchlight for the effect.

One more reason to hate the idiot.

He turned his head to peer over his shoulder. He saw her right away.

Shimmering purple eyes stared at him. Ilaria clung upside down to the top corner of his cell. How exactly she held on, he wasn’t sure. Her thick dark curly hair hung down making her appear otherworldly.

“Hi,” he whispered, still laying on his side with his back to her.

“Hi,” she whispered back.

“Whatcha doing?”

“I came to see you,” she said softly.

“That’s cool. How did you get in here?” he asked.
