"Why did we sneak into the archive center?" Charlotte asked Édouard after they entered the room through the backdoor. The King had permitted Édouard already to investigate the matter. Then why did they have to work in hiding?

"Because no one should know this," Édouard whispered in her ear. He held her hand and took her to the block where documents from the period of twenty-six to twenty-four years ago were put.

Placing the lantern on the empty space on one of the shelves, Édouard gestured to Charlotte that they should begin the search. He put the bag on the floor in which he had brought some old files which would take the place of the original ones for a while so that no one would be suspicious.
