Chapitre 12: I don’t hide in the shadows

POV 3RD

As the day slowly turned into night, things start to become slower in some parts. More louder in others, yet in Pacifica, things are always loud.

Some junkies, trying new drugs, some fighting in the open streets. People being dragged away to be stripped from their implants.

Yet, in one building, in an apartment, one that was abandoned, lights were shining near the top.

Inside were six men, their hands tied underneath the chair and had guard walking around them.

All of them wore the same clothing black and red, all African American, some have metal plates exposed, others were leaneing on the wall with a small box.

While others had their hands changed, coated in metal to prevent damage in a fist fight.

The floor underneath showed the same, guards patroling the halls, some looked outside with rifles to make sure no one was close.

The same could be said for the floor under, and the next, and the next. All the way to the ground floor, where guards stood in front of the entrance.

Some rested on the pillars, while others were playing cards. All of them were relaxed, expecting no one to come after the six men.

Yet, why did they have multiple guards? What could cause them to have so many men gaurd only six people?

"Brother, I ask you again, we don't need this much. Why do you have most of us here?" Asked a woman, who was relaxed, placing her gun behind her shoulder.

"Because, he will show up." Replied the brother, who was vigilant, the sister only rolled her eyes and sighed.

"What's so impressive about this…con…co.." She tried to find the word she wanted to say, but could only shake her head.

"Cobra." The sister snapped her fingers and smiled.

"Yes, that's the one, what's so impressive about him?" She asked, leaning against one of the pillars.

The brother took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. His hands shook as he held the gun, but sat down and breathed.

"H-he is not human, not anymore." He started, remembering the day when he encountered him.

"I was there when the animals were tasked to protect someone." He remembered how cobra, that 'thing', appeared.

"The animals had every gun aimed at him, all shooting at him." As he told the story, the two didn't notice something slithering past them.

Slowly entering the building, multiple objects began to pile onto one another. Forming a man with a black mask, covering his entire head.

"I thought that 'thing' was dead, it had its body filled with holes. It's limbs broken beyond repair." He continued, the figure soon began to walk forward.

Standing in front of a wall, it placed its foot onto it and began to walk up, soon it reached the ceiling, where it began to walk down the hall.

Its figure soon began to glitch in and out, as if a tv screen was having trouble gaining signal. Until it was no longer there.

"I saw its limbs bend themselves back, the wounds closing, and the mask." He shuddered and shook his head.

"The mask looked new, like it wasn't shot at all." He breathed deeply and held his hands.

"Bah, you are making things up." Said the sister, slapping his head. He could only wince at the slap.

"B-but it's true!" He tried to convince her, but the look on her eye was obvious that she didn't believe him.

"Let's go, we should be changing spots soon." Said the woman, the brother didn't have a choice and followed her.

As the two of them walked, neither of them saw something following them. Something small, it glitched for only a second, then dissapeared.

"I am telling the truth, I saw it with my own eyes!" Shouted the brother, only for the sister to click her tongue in annoyance.

"Look, I do not believe you one bit, but, when we get our money, we will go see the leader, and see your memories. Then I can believe y-." The woman then stopped, seeing two other people, however, they were slumped over.

The two then rushed over, pushing them up to have them leaning against the wall. Yet when they tried to ask them, they saw their eyes were lifeless.

Their mouths hung open, and drool was dripping onto the floor. The sister began to examine the two corpses, finding nothing.

"It's him, he's here." Panicked the brother, who stood up and began to aim his gun around, trying to see any movement.

"Enough, it's just the two of them, there are many of us." She said and began to rush forward, only to see two more corpses.

She then ran towards the next location, the same could be seen. Even after she went to all ten spots, all of them had corpses.

"T-this dosent make sense!" She said, soon the sound of gunfire was heard inside.

"You stay here, I'll go help the others." She told her brother, he nodded his head and ran off, while the woman entered the building.

POV ???

As I watch him run away with fear in his eyes, I could only see him as a coward, I couldn't understand what made him act like this.

He says it was during the night when he encountered this Cobra, but I didn't believe him.

Besides, anyone who is riddled with bullet holes can't just come back to life. So I could only think he must have taken too much junk to mess with himself.

I gripped the gun I had in my hands and began to walk inside, making sure I checked each corner.

I expected some of my companions to still be alive, but it was too quiet. Not a single sound was heard on the floor I was on.

Only in the higher floors could I hear gunshots, and screams. As Iwalked down the halls, I soon found a companion that was still standing.

"Ah, thank god that you are alive T'chili. Come, we must he-." I tried to grab her shoulder, but she soon fell forward.

Her eyes empty and lifeless like the corpses outside, I could only gasp at the sight and run towards the upper floors.

Each time I passed by a room or run down the hallway, I saw more of my brethren in the same state, their eyes empty, boring into my soul

I could feel my spine, no, my entire body feeling different. Like I was being held down by something, each step I took, I could feel the air being heavy.

I soon reached the sixth floor, and I could still hear the gunfire. I didn't want to see anymore of the corpses, so I ran towards the nearest net runner and pushed off their corps, connecting my personal jack.

Once I connected to the portable terminal, I began to search through the cameras. Checking the upper floors, I could see the same, corpses, corpses, and more corpses.

That was until I finally reached the area where the gunfire was located, I saw most of my companions all together firing down the stairs.

I was confused why some were focused on the stairs, until I saw it. One of them grabbed their neck and was tossed back, the rest soon whipped around quickly, aiming the air in front of them.

Some tried to ping the location of the intruder, but their body stiffened with small sparks coming out of their ports, finally collapsing on the floor.

"Back to back, everybody back to back!" Shouted one of my companions, this was the correct idea, to prevent an ambush from behind.

However, it wasn't enough, something shot out from the doorway that led to the stairs, wrapping itself onto one of the legs.

The woman looked down, and before she could say anything, she was being dragged away.

"H-help me, please, don't let it take me! Please!" She began to claw at the floor, not caring that her fingers bled, she used her implants to hook herself onto the ground.

But the force that was dragging her was strong enough to cause gashes on the floor itself.

The rest of them began to shoot behind her, trying to break the thing that was pulling her. Yet, it didn't happen, her implants were gripping the doorway.

I could hear the metal starting to creak, smoke and sparks began to appear. The woman was pulling herself, smiling that she was about to be okay.

*SNAP*

The implants gave in, her eyes widened in horror, and she soon screamed. One of the men tried to rush in, only to be held back.

Soon the sound of bone and metal being broken, and the gurgling sound of blood filling the mouth was heard.

"My, my, what an unsightly display." A distorted voice was heard, followed by the the sound of footsteps.

"However, her implants and money will be good use." He was wiping his hands with a cloth, blood could be seen on it.

No one could move seeing him, how calm he looked. In his chest were the arms of the victim he killed, slowly being absorbed into his body.

"Now then, who's next?" None of them could move, they all stood still in place wondering who this monster is.

They had their fingers on the trigger, all they had to do was pull it. Pull it to shoot, shoot the monster in front of them.

Yet.

Not a single one of them could.

They all stood their, aiming at him in fear. Their breathing was heightened, their body's were too tense, if they were painted with white or grey paint, they could be seen as statues.

The second he took a step, one of them screamed loudly and began pulling the trigger.

This was enough to snap the rest of them out of the shock, causing them to fire. I expected the intruder to be torn to shreds, but what happened shocked me more.

The bullets collided with the air.

They all began to stop a few inches away from his body, dropping onto the floor like rain.

What's worse, the power weapons they had were useless. It's as if something was protecting him, then, I saw it.

The air in front of the man glitched, and what I saw made me disconnect from the terminal.

It was coiling around him, iron, steel, whatever it was. It was surrounding him, protecting him while letting him see.

I couldn't believe my eyes, something like this was impossible, there was no way for any of the big corpos to make something like this.

And yet, I hoped this was a nightmare, something I could wake up from. But no matter how much I harmed myself, I knew this was reality.

All I could do was run, live to warn the others of this monster. To prepare for what is to come.

I soon arrived at the ground floor and was about to rush towards the entrance. Yet I ended up crashing against something, preventing me to touch it.

I felt blood dripping from my nose, yet I ignore it. I placed my hands in front of me, on the invisible wall that was blocking the exit.

I soon heard multiple footsteps as well, I smiled when I saw my companions and they did the same.

"T'viti, it's good to see you." One of them said, but before they could approach me, something pierced their head.

It all happened so fast that I didn't know what to say. The corpse was then dragged in the dark, and everyone began to fire in the direction of the corpse.

"Everyone, out!" Shouted someone, but before I could warn them, they all crashed agaisnt the invisible wall.

"Sorry, but I can't have anyone knowing about this. But don't worry, your sacrifice will be useful to me." Said the man, he was walking with both hands behind his back, the black mask reflecting the small light that was inside.

"Who sent you, why are you here?!" Shouted one of my companions, the man only turned his head.

"I was sent here from a client, since you all captured members from sixth street." He replied, said companion wanted to say something, but was soon held in the air.

"Now, now, one question only." He said, before the sound of something being broken was heard.

The others didn't say anything, they, including me, raised our weapons. Some pulled put bats and knives, ready to charge at him.

"Well then, may you all rest with pain and regret for all eternity." He said, before shooting the remaining light.

The light from outside was also cut off, leaving us in the dark. We all began to fire where he was before, letting our muzzles flash.

We didnt stop, even if we used an entire magazine, we just reloaded and continued to fire.

Bit by bit, we all began to fall. Each of us were being dragged away in the dark, some begged for help, while others shot themselevs or fried their minds.

It didn't matter though, I was the last one standing, firing in the dark. Yet I hit nothing, after firing for who knows how long, I heard the click.

I pressed the trigger a few more times, only to drop the gun and pull out a knife. My heart was beating fast and hard, ready to burst out of my chest.

"Any last words?" Asked the man, o could only walk forward, turning to see where he could be.

"My brother escaped, he'll warn the people." I said, but I soon saw a flash of light. And in front of me was something that I wished it was a nightmare.

In his hand, was the head of my brother. Fear where in his eyes, all I could do was stare at his head.

"Like I said, I can't have anyone telling my secrets." He said before walking towards me.

"I'll fucking kill you!" I shouted and ran towards him in a blind rage, yet, before I could reach him, something held me in place.

Looking down, I could finally see the things that killed my companions. They were piled on top of each other, all of them holding me in place.

They began to rise, slowly covering my legs, waist, and chest. I could only look at cobra with hatred, gritting my teeth I shouted the last thing before I was killed.

"I swear to you, you will not survive, the voodoo boys will hunt you down, torture you till you beg for death!" Yet, before they covered my face, he soon approached me with his arms stretched.

"Then let them come, let them try to kill me, hunt me down like a dog." He said and soon stood in front of me.

"However, I am not a dog, I do not run trying to bark." He then placed his hand on his mask, slowly lifting it.

I widened my eyes in fear at what I saw, multiple eyes could be seen. And multiple heads as well, heads of a snake.

"I am the serpent, they expect me to hide in the shadows, to strike them from the shadows." It spoke, its voice still distorted.

The snakes soon were covering one of my eyes, while the other could still see. It, placed the mask back on, and spoke one last time.

"I am the shadows." Soon, my vision went dark, never to see the light of day.
