Logan heard a faint voice but he could tell who the voice belonged to. He could hear Isla screaming for him to wake up and for Oliver to go to him. And he also heard another man's voice but the voice was unfamiliar.
"Take the girl and tie her to the tree. Burn the ground around her, we need her to be burned to death. The witch must die already!" He shouted and the people screamed yes in return.
He heard Isla screaming for them to let her go but a man shut her up "keep quiet you witch!" He said with clear disgust in his voice.
"What exactly do you want from me?" Isla asked "what have I ever done to you people?"
"Many horrible things," the man replied.
"And you don't have the balls to tell me?" She questioned. The words she used were unusual and unlike her.
"I'll tell you, alright? Three hundred years ago you came to this land where you lived amongst us. Heseble. That was your name but after you came a child died and after that more death happened and every child died. One. By. One," He said the last words in a whisper.
"And how does that have anything to do with her?" He heard Oliver struggling to speak.
"We found out she was a witch?"
"That could be fabricated," Oliver said.
"No it wasn't," the man said harshly.
"Then who saw her? Did any one of you witness her killing the children?" It was dead quiet "of course not."
"Actually my ancestor saw her using one of her many spells."
"And that was it?" Oliver scoffed "what exactly was the spell for?" He asked with a mocking tone.
The man was quiet once again.
"You can't kill an innocent soul because of a fabricated story made to scare children."
"Then what would you say killed my brother?" The man asked immediately.
"That is something you must investigate, not conclude. Who knows, the killer might be amongst you," Oliver said in a jest.
This created suspicions around them as everyone scanned each other.
"What are you saying?" The man finally inquired.
"I'm saying, instead of you making assumptions why not figure out the truth, starting with hers and know if truly history was right or wrong."
"Well.. we do have something we could use to know if she is truly the same person and if it's also a lie."
"Well said then."
"Bring the black ashes and a bowl of water." The man ordered and the water arrived shortly "this is actually easy. If she's not the one then all of you will be allowed to leave here but if she is the one then she will bleed and that means history was right after all and she must be burned to death."
The risk that came with their freedom seemed unbelievable to both Isla and Oliver. Logan had to force his eyes open. He looked around, his gaze was blurry and he had to blink several times before he could at least see Oliver sitting on his legs with his hand on his chest.
Isla stood in front of both Oliver and the man that was clearly their leader.
"Take this and drink," a bowl was passed to her. The man holding her arm behind her, fed her the content inside the bowl and moved back.
Everyone moved back as well with a gaze filled with curiosity. Isla stood alone for minutes but nothing happened.
She turned to look at her uncle with a smile when nothing happened. Oliver smiled back.
Their leader nodded slowly with a blank face. He opened his mouth to speak, however something happened which left everyone gasping.
Isla was still smiling when she felt a drop of something on her lips. She frowned and touched her nose. She looked at her hand and her feet trembled when she saw blood on her hand.
"No, no, no," she tried cleaning the blood with her hands while she shook her head in denial.
Her head suddenly felt like it was banging, her limbs felt weak and an excruciating pain was what she felt in her chest. Everywhere seemed to spin before her and then everything went blank.
Isla heard a tapping sound. She opened her eyes weakly and blinked when the bright light of the sun attacked her eyes.
When her eyes adjusted to the brightness of the place, they quickly searched around. She was bewildered to see herself in a room with the window opened to welcome the bright sun while a little bird tapped on the window frame. She looked around the small room that had a simple decoration. A white curtains were on each side of the window. The wooden room gave her a warm feeling. A lamb was on the table at the right side of the bed where she saw a figure and tried to look closely.
She heard feet treading into the room before someone swung the door open "Hesebel?" She heard a woman's voice.
Isla looked up to find a woman in a simple brown dress and her hair tied back in a half ponytail.
"Hesebel wake up already," the woman stalked towards the bed and now Isla could see that there was a lady on the bed.
The lady sat up lazily and Isla's mouth hung open. The lady was none other than the one in the painting.
Her blonde hair, pale skin, silver eyes and her delicate body has already made it obvious.
The lady hissed in annoyance "you know, it's still early Sarah."
"Early enough for a lady to leave her room and prepare for the day, now get up and do something before noon."
Hesebel groaned and swung her legs down before following the woman out. Isla stood there for a while, unable to fathom what was happening and where she was.
"Am I in a dream or is this some kind of an allusion?" She asked herself.
Last thing she remembered was her bleeding nose and how everywhere began spinning. That was all she could remember so where was she now? And why was she suddenly okay?.
