I opened My eyes disturbed by the dark wetness of the gardens. I'd never seen this place before, let alone at night. They weren't the gardens of Zircon nor the Court Of Butterflies.
I looked over my shoulder where a young man and woman seemed to be kissing. They were in wedding attire. The woman's was very fantasy-like and the man's almost looked like an outfit from Greek mythology.
The woman stopped turning around to look at me. My eyes widened as I looked upon her face. That woman was me… much older and matured but most definitely me. I took after my Mommy in features. If my hair color was different I might have been mistaken for her.
But before I could think anymore of it I opened My eyes once again in the safety of my new room for the next year. I sat up stretching, opening the pink curtains. The court of butterflies was with no doubt very beautiful.
"Excuse me my lady"
I turned to look at the maid behind me. A girl with salmon pink hair and sharp blue eyes. She was much too pretty to be a maid. she had a cold stare and she didn't smile. I'm surprised she wasn't a nobel.
"Yes?"
"I'll be your handmaiden for the time being. My name is Desiree" she took a bow.
"Alright move to meet you Desiree"
It's weird to have a handmaiden that isn't Tuli. I can't dwell on that right now, my safety is my top priority at the moment. So I have to gain her trust otherwise my own safety isn't guaranteed.
I guess I'm not so different from my past life after all. Even if I've climbed out of the darkness. I only care about myself, it's a survival instinct.
Desiree led me to the bath, washing me and clothing me in a bright pink dress. She brushed my hair pulling my front bangs into a bow near the back of my head. Desiree was quiet, she didn't speak a word unless I talked to her first. It seems to get along with the people here, playing innocent was the best course of action.
At home no matter how bratty I was, Mommy and Daddy rarely got mad at me. But The Court Of Butterflies was unfamiliar, I had no standing here. I had no way to protect myself.
Like before, locked in the basement once again…
***
I watched out the window of my classroom not really listening to the teacher. I wasn't the only one. There were 3 others, all the daughters of high households. Though I seemed to be the highest rank. Lady Anastacia of the house of Gruel, Lady Martha from the house of Emeralds, and Lady Rutha from the house of Clair. All beautiful girls.
The teacher rambled on about magic and its history. I already knew that though. Humans all get one of the 4 elemental magics and everyone else gets a magic specific to their race. Dragons, elves, ogres, etc. there is undefined magic of course, like healing or alchemy but it usually goes along those lines. It's not like I was behind or anything. I learned all of this so I bore no interest.
Crack the teacher's chalk broke flying across the room. He sighed, checking his desk for more. "It seems I've run out of chalk, I'll be back student's stay here" the teacher said walking out of the classroom. I glanced at my papers again, quickly filling in the answers.
I wasn't following along but I surely looked like it. I need to do more studying on my own. If I'm the best in my class no one can complain and I'll be able to go home. Home…
I missed home. Husk, Acacia, Rheya, Oak, and Clementine. I want to play with them in the garden again. Making flower crowns and playing tag. It almost made me laugh, I really was thinking like a child.
"Um… Miss Ludocielle?"
Lady Anastacia walked over. She was an elf with disheveled green hair and eyes a particular cyan color. She looked like a princess from a children's novel. Anastacia wore a dark red dress but smiled ever so kindly. A cold stare but seemed quite outgoing. So I smiled back. Innocence…
"Yes Lady Anastacia?"
"Would you like to have tea later, my family does business with Zicron"
I blinked at her, keeping business connections is good.
I took a deep breath "of course!" I never had many friends besides my siblings. It took a long time for me to feel safe at home so I never got to know any of the other nobel children.
The teacher walked back into the room and Lady Anastacia took her seat. The teacher continued his lecture.
Lady Anastacia and I sat in the palace garden drinking tea from white cups. She was much more graceful than I. Anastacia set her cup down making direct eye contact. She'd gone serious and I could tell.
"Listen… I'm worried. I'm the second daughter of house Gruel, my elder sister does work with you. She's told me that you're also trying to marry prince Zen" Anastacia gripped her cup.
Marry zen? I don't think I ever could. "You want to marry him?"
"Were betrothed… for a week now. She told me that if you go after him if he accepts it, I'll be thrown to the curb. II didn't know what to do so I thought I should maybe try talking to you first." tears welled up in her eyes. Thrown out? That!s a horrible thing to say to a kid.
" Well, there's no need for you to worry, I'm not interested in marrying Prince Zen"
"Really?"
"That's correct I want to make friends here and if he's the truth to you, there's no way I'd go after him."
Having friends and people to rely on, is good in a place like this. So if I want to survive I need as many people on my side as possible.
