Francesca gasped and turned abruptly to look at the cook. The possibility of being pregnant hadn't crossed her mind at all.
"There is no reason to panic, Francesca. Just think. When was you are last time?" the cook told her softly, trying to calm her down.
She understood that it would be difficult for Francesca to deal with it if she was adequately pregnant, after all, she was a married woman. People get married to have children family. The cook was sure that Francesca would soon get used to it as a new mother-to-be, and eventually, she would be crazy about it.
The cook smiled. She knows from her own experience that she got pregnant for the first time years ago. That has always been the case.
"Well?" she asked again a minute later. "When was the last time?"
Francesca thought about it for a while. "Well, if I remember correctly. Last month I didn't have, nor this month my period came. I didn't realize that so much time had passed and my period hadn't come."
