Cedric might have been imagining things, but after he fed the Djinn Cat the gemstones, it began firing four bolts instead of three. If it could grow stronger through this, it would both surprise and terrify Cedric.
Summoned monsters did not belong to this world. Their true worlds were different from Elaris, and their existence here was nothing more than a projection of their true selves. This was why someone could summon the same creature but with varying strengths according to their Attraction level.
That being said, Cedric had never heard of a summoned creature growing stronger on Earth. Unless it was a spatial summoning through a portal, where the creature itself would come to Elaris—as was the case with dungeons throughout the world—it would be impossible for a projection to grow stronger without the summoner strengthening their summoning art.
The next chamber was filled with enemies—almost a hundred mosquitoes, each at level five. At first, the Djinn Cat shot out four lightning bolts, but they barely made a dent in their numbers. If anything, it only served to anger them.
[Bloodsucker Mosquito (Level 5)] x 100
"As if regular mosquitoes don't suck blood," Cedric muttered as he backed away. He was covered in blood, so their attention shifted from the cat to him. "This is bad! Let's retreat for now, cat!"
Cedric was about to bolt back into the chamber of vines, but his summoned monster seemed unafraid of these mosquitoes. Its horns began glowing, and vibrations leaked from them. Cedric was confused and activated the narrator.
[The Djinn Cat used its other innate skill, Lethal Waves. This skill sends high-intensity electromagnetic waves within a certain radius, damaging a large group of enemies. If exposed for too long, or if the target is too weak, the waves can be lethal.]
Cedric stood in awe as he read the description, then decided to bolt back through the corridor. In his mind, he vowed never to curse his luck again since it had given him such a summoned creature. Although physically weak, it had two powerful innate skills with a rare affinity for lightning.
The waves were an area-of-effect attack, so Cedric had to retreat into the previous chamber. Some of the mosquitoes chased after him, each one as big as a bat.
Lethal Waves activated, and Cedric felt his ears ringing. In the next instant, he heard small pops throughout the corridor and the chamber behind him. When he turned around, he saw the mosquitoes falling to the ground, their shapes deformed.

…
The notifications were endless, spamming Cedric's view as he stared at the empty corridor. The waves had not reached him and seemed to target only the mosquitoes chasing him.
When he returned to the chamber, he found the Djinn Cat licking its paws. There were no gemstones for it to devour. Cedric stood, staring at the little monster with excitement as it stood in a chamber filled with its victims.
[You have leveled up!]
Cedric snapped out of his daze with the final notification. He dismissed the rest and realized that a hundred mosquitoes had barely allowed him to level up to level 20. He was finally here.
[You can now obtain a new class skill.]
[The Extra System can generate a list of skills to choose from. You can choose the class skill to obtain. The nature of the skills will depend on the class stats of the summoner.]
[Do you wish to generate the list?]
[Yes] / [No]
"I can choose the class skill?" Cedric muttered in surprise before looking at the cat with adoration. Then, he picked it up and waved it around. "You little level-farming machine! We did it!"
The cat was alarmed and flapped its wings to escape. It slipped out of his grasp before he could traumatize it further, staring at him with displeasure for ruining her bath time. Cedric was too excited to mind her judgmental stares and decided to generate the list of skills.
[Generating…]
[Three skills have been generated.]
[Skills:]
- [Astral Selection (D)]
- [Shared Mind (D)]
- [Summon Familiar (D)]
Cedric rubbed his hands together as he found a clean spot to sit and think. He was the type of person to read the description of every skill before choosing a new one, so he began with the first skill.
[Astral Selection (D): A summoner can never predict what their summoned creature will be, but this skill offers the chance to choose either their affinities, race, or level.]
The description was short but easy to understand. If Cedric obtained this skill, he could choose what kind of summoned creature he wanted. He could specify if he wanted a knight or a turtle to hide inside.
This skill was very useful, as it gave Cedric the versatility to handle any situation or monster. If he fought shadows, he could just summon a light-based creature. This would be useful when he reached the last chamber and found the bastard who created this dungeon. Although it would be useful, Cedric needed to read the other skills before deciding.
[Shared Mind (D): A summoner and their summoned creature rely on trust and cooperation to win a battle. Once activated, this skill allows the summoner to share the mind of their summoned creature, granting them absolute control over it and access to any information the creature knows.]
"Another useful skill," Cedric muttered, pondering, while the cat appeared beside him to sniff his hands. The mosquitoes were level five, so they lacked a mana gem. "I don't have any snacks for you."
The cat seemed to understand and ignored him. Cedric was once again amazed that a summoned creature could be this moody. If he obtained the skill, he would know what the hell it was thinking about.
"If I raise control and harmony, I should obtain a similar effect to this skill," Cedric muttered in disappointment. "When it comes to the skill I need right now, you are not the one!" Cedric disqualified it before reading the last skill.
[Summon Familiar (D): A summoned creature can be a friend, too. In the lonely journey of summoners, countless creatures become their summoned, but there can only be one Familiar. They become a part of your strength and allow you to summon them without requiring mana.]
Cedric paused once he finished reading the explanation and looked at the cat sniffing the chambers for any gemstones. Although it was moody and aloof, it was rather strong compared to its level. Furthermore, it was more intelligent than Cedric imagined a summoned creature could be.
"But… a familiar?"
That meant Cedric could only make this choice once. Unless the summoned creature died and their contract was shattered, he could not remove a creature as his familiar. Even if there was a method, it would either damage him or the monster itself.
"Damn, it feels like proposing," Cedric muttered, ruffling his hair. However, he had all the information he needed now to make a decision. His choices were either the first or the third skill. Both were useful but focused on different aspects.
[Astral Selection] focused on versatility, which Cedric could benefit from inside this dungeon. [Summon Familiar] was useful given his limited mana pool at the moment. If he could summon and unsummon his familiar at any given moment, he would never find himself helpless against an opponent.
[Your summoned creature [Djinn Cat] wishes to be unsummoned.]
As he was attempting to make a decision, the system sent him a warning. Cedric was taken aback as he realized the cat was trying to sleep. Realization dawned on him as he remembered the cat had no timer for unsummoning.
This meant the Djinn Cat could stay as long as it wished and leave when it got tired. Cedric had never heard of such a thing. This summoned creature was odd, and Cedric had a feeling he needed to bind it to himself.
[You have chosen the skill [Summon Familiar (D)] to be your class skill.]
[You can now choose a familiar from the creatures you summon. A creature must accept forming a permanent contract with the summoner.]
Cedric felt a tingling sensation in his body as he obtained the skill. As soon as he did, he rose to his feet and walked toward the cat. It raised its head and stared at him with a curious gaze.
"Do you wish to be my familiar?" Cedric asked as he offered his hand. The cat stared at him with interest and a little bit of amusement. For some reason, Cedric felt like he was proposing.
