Seeing his stats page, Kila began to smile. The stats page allowed him to see all the corresponding information, that is, all the encrypted information that showed his performance in real-time. He could also increase his stats with the points to be assigned, but for that, he had to level up, and given the system's method for rewards, they probably had to prove his 'value', before he could go up to levels 1, 2, 3 and so on.

Even though he didn't know when he was going to have to prove himself to be able to level up, he suspected it would be very soon. And while he was thinking that, another message from the system sounded in their ears.

[You will be transported in a few moments to a new instance. Please perform this instance alone, or with 1 teammate.]

[Quest: Find a worthy ally

Type: Search

Objective: Find a teammate or stay alone for the next event to come.

Time remaining: 1 minute

Success: None

Failed: None]

This time, the quest was quite simple. At least in appearance. It doesn't give an immediate death in case of failure like the last quest, nor ask to kill someone. It simply asks to look for a teammate, no more and no less.

However, the trick of the system was there. The nature of the races was such that they distrusted everything, and this nature would increase in times like this.

What tells me you won't stab me in the back?

Why should I trust you, you who killed someone unscrupulously to save your life?

These are people's thoughts when they see this quest. Who could blame them for being suspicious? They all lived in a world where trusting someone meant taking the risk of being stabbed in the back at all times. People would still rather be alone than suffering. It was the true self of the races, and no one could blame them.

However, if the system had proposed a quest like this, it was because there was a reason behind it. The system would never give something without wanting something else in return. It was a giving relationship between the system and the people who owned it.

Even if Kila couldn't know what the next event would hold, he could have guessed it would be something complicated. Complicated enough to ask to ally with someone after they have all witnessed a bloodbath.

And in this situation, the only person Kila could think of was Cayron. Even though he would have preferred to stay alone because of what Cayron had told him, he couldn't take the risk of dying so foolishly. And, he was sure that they would make up, at least that's what he wanted to believe. He was his childhood friend after all, why would he be like that if it wasn't a misunderstanding?

"Cayron, I think-... He tried to tell Cayron before being interrupted by him.

"Kila, we're doing this together, right?" Cayron asked worriedly. This whole situation still seemed like a shock to him, and the only person who could help him get out of this state was Kila.

Seeing him, Kila was quite baffled. He had never seen Cayron behave like this. He was always confident, and here, he seemed scared. What for? He had absolutely no idea. If a person thought it was like a video game, he was sure that that same person could adapt extremely quickly.

However, Cayron also seemed to be afraid of something else. He suspected that it might be him, since he was avoiding his gaze while asking the question, but again, he had no idea why. The people who adapted the fastest were those who lived the longest. Kila knew very well that everything that happened was nothing more than reality, and if he did not listen to the system, an authority even more powerful than the gods, all that would happen to them would be misfortunes.

"Of course, we're friends after all. We have to help each other in moments like this," Kila said with a smile, even if he had enough trouble believing his own words. He didn't know if Cayron still considered him as a friend, or someone he could use to stay alive. But he decided to think about that later. There were bigger problems before his eyes.

After agreeing, Kila and Cayron began to wait. They could see that a very small number of people had decided to get into a group, leaving about forty people alone.

Seeing this, Kila couldn't help but sigh. He knew that the next test would be impossible to do alone and that there would therefore be a very high percentage of mortality during this instance. The system probably wanted to see how people could trust others after they witnessed something traumatic. It probably wanted to judge the decision-making of the people in situations of crisis, even though he still didn't know why.

He suspected that in a world like this, races were certainly a danger to an individual, but the monsters that are supposed to appear with the spread of mana in the world were even more dangerous, so the next quest will probably have something to do with that. And so that had to be the reason why the system wanted people to ally with someone.

[Time up. All the people in the area will soon be transported to the location of the next quest. Good luck

After the system message, a white light began to dazzle Kila and Cayron. Once he had dissipated, they saw their surroundings. They had landed in what appeared to be a completely green landscape, with a bright sun, but not as hot as in the desert. It was almost like an oasis compared to the infernal desert where they were a few seconds before.

After a few moments, another message from the system appeared.

[Quest: The Dungeon of the Slime Kingdom

Type: Survival + Battle

Objective: Kill the 3 bosses of the dungeon scattered throughout the area.

Time remaining: 1 week

Success: Access to inventory and 5,000 gold coins offered.

Failure: Death]

Seeing his new quest, Kila began to smile. He had managed to predict a little bit the next quest he had to do, and it made him extremely happy.

He also had a sense of déjà vu in this quest. Not that he had already experienced these moments in real life, far from it. But he had lived these moments so much through the different books he had read, that he felt like a pinch in his heart.

He was happy to see a world so similar to his favorite books, and he preferred this world 100 times more than the last one. Which is better between having fun killing monsters or studying to have a stable job? For Kila, it was quite obvious.

There were also very interesting rewards. The inventory that will be given to those who manage to complete the quest will be just one of the most useful survival tools. He could keep whatever he wanted in his inventory, without that same object changing. The space and time in the inventory were completely stopped, which meant that if someone put a hot meal inside, and 10 days would pass between the release of this same dish, it will still remain as hot as when it was put on, and it will absolutely not be expired.

The inventory also made it possible to transport all the non-living things, which could be very useful in certain situations. The only exception to this rule is plants that could also be put in the inventory even though they were still alive. Also, if the inventory was unlimited in place, it would suit Kila enormously because he won't need to carry a bag around his back every day.

As for the 5,000 gold coins, this could only be useful. He didn't know how the market will work, but he could suspect that there would necessarily be a link with armor, monster resources, and perhaps later, when they are used to this new life, other things that would come more from everyday life, like books in Kila's case.

After analyzing the different rewards he could get, Kila decided to take action. The meadow seemed to stretch for miles around, and even if 1 week might seem long, it was absolutely not if we had no information, except that the monsters to kill were bosses, and so in this dungeon, they would probably be slime kings.

The only problem was that Kila possessed only one offensive skill, which could do damage through the airways of his enemies. However, slimes did not have this kind of characteristic. They didn't even have a body to speak of. They were just mana balls, corresponding to one of the basic elements, water, earth, fire, and air.

And even if he could do something, the slimes were immune to physical and magical attacks. The only way to kill them would be to overcome their resistance, which was impossible for its current level, or to kill them from within, which seemed possible, but also very hard to find the way to proceed to kill them from within.

So Kila began to walk in one direction, completely randomly. He had to start by looking somewhere, so he decided to move blindly at first. Even if this tactic is often a bad idea. Here, it wasn't so much. There was only a flat field in front of him, which greatly reduces the risk of being taken by surprise. And he doubted enormously that slimes were smart enough to mount a surprise attack, they didn't even have brains after all.

And then, the only way for him to find out how to kill the slimes would be to attack them first and see how they would react during an attack. Kila continued to walk before he was interrupted by something holding his arm, something he had completely forgotten about his existence.

"Kila where are you going? Do you want to die or what? And then we have to talk about why you decided to kill someone so quickly without remorse" Cayron said, taken aback by seeing Kila act like a different person.

"And why will I have to tell you something like this huh?"

"We're friends, right? Of course, you have to tell me," Cayron Insisted.

"Hmm, now that you say it, it's true that we are friends. But.... I think we have other things to deal with and that my answers will have to wait." Kila replied while pointing his finger behind Cayron. And then, even if there was nothing to interrupt them, he would still have found a way to avoid the question. Cayron had never been interested in the books Kila read, so even if he explained it to him, he still wouldn't understand the reason.

After Cayron turned his head, he saw a mini-army of slime coming in their direction. There were red, blue, green, and brown slimes. All of them represent one of the basic elements.

In this mini army, there seemed to be a slime bigger and taller than the others. Kila hoped deep down that it would be a slime king, and therefore that they could have completed 1/3 of the quest.

But the problem was that he still hadn't found a way to beat the slimes and that if he was a boss, they would be in great trouble.

The slimes continued to advance slowly but surely. Their only way forward was to do mini jumps that didn't even cover 20 centimeters, which gave Kila ample time to think of a plan. He, therefore, looked in all the knowledge he had about monsters, and more precisely monsters with the particularity of being gelatinous like slimes. This is when he thought of something.

Slimes were certainly immune to any kind of physical and magical attack, but not to climate change, and certainly not to water that would make them even slimmer and therefore, would inevitably lead to their death. The plan was very simple but extremely efficient in this case.
