Elpis POV
I went to the council meeting and left Hemera alone at home. I was a bit worried, given she doesn't know anybody and has nothing to do. I didn't want to stress her with Luna's duties. She just came in and I wanted her to settle in and feel comfortable first also, we are not married yet.
It got me thinking about our deal. The fact she was taken wasn't a surprise but why her? I know Eliot, even though he behaves like the devil's pawn, he is not one to make sloppy moves. What does Hemera have that he wants so badly? I could just be exaggerating, but the fact she hasn't transformed yet is enough to prove that she is special. The question is, is it in positively or negative way?
And her name, Hemera, slaves don't usually have such kinds of names but for a wolf the name was weird. Hemera means light and there is nothing that connects wolves to daytime. At this point, I was so confused. I started to doubt if I could actually keep my end of the bargain.
"Alpha." I heard a distant voice.
"Alpha!" someone yelled waking me from my thoughts. I looked up and it was Drake.
"The meeting has ended." He told me. I looked at the room and no one was there. how long have I been deep in thought?
"Did Kai attend?" I asked.
"No, alpha."
I knew he wouldn't attend not after what happened last night. I didn't want to worry about him. I know my brother. His thoughts come from a good place. I am sure by now he has gone to interrogate Hemera or something. I just hope she can hold her own. She looked really smart to me.
I went back to my office and tried to get things done but I couldn't. I wanted answers, I needed answers, I didn't just know where to get them. The same thoughts and questions were still in my head.
"Alpha, is there something wrong?" Drake asked.
I looked at Drake and took a deep breath, "Drake, why do you think Eliot took Hemera?"
"I have no idea alpha, probably for leverage." He told me.
"True, but why her?"
"I don't know. Maybe she is lying?" he asked.
I looked at me, "There is a possibility but I doubt it."
"Why?"
"Crescent wolves change immediately they come of age. As far as they stand under the moonlight, they will transform and become wolves so the fact she hasn't transformed can only mean two things: A, she is a sick Crescent wolf, or B, she is not a Crescent wolf at all I choose to go for the latter."
"Hmm." That was all Drake could say. I couldn't dare estimate what he was thinking at that moment.
"Could you do some research and check if there are any families that are looking for their child? I just need to be sure."
"Of course, alpha." he bowed and left to start his assignment.
I couldn't concentrate and it was already evening so I just went home. I got to my room and was welcomed by a pile of books on the table then I remembered, I don't stay alone anymore. My eyes went to the bed and there was, she was with a book in her hand, lost in words. She was so deep into it that she didn't even realize that I was in front of her. I coughed and she finally noticed me.
"You are back! Sorry, I didn't notice; I was just into the book." She said with a little smile. She looked really stressed.
"Well, always be on your guard, you never know who would come in next." I told her, "How was your day? Did anything interesting happen?" I asked. Her expression immediately changed. Her smile disappeared but came back as soon as it could but not soon enough before I could see it.
"Nothing I couldn't handle." She said with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. I looked at the table with the pile and books and with a closer look, they were all war books. It was like she was preparing for war.
"I will freshen up and we will go down for dinner," I told her and went into my chambers and so did she.
Dinner was unbelievably awkward. Kai was still gloating and Hemera wasn't looking up. I knew something happened.
"You didn't attend the meeting today, for any reason," I asked Kai.
He looked at me indifferently, "I was busy." He continued to eat. He was obviously still very angry.
"Well, you will be busier from tomorrow because you will train Hemera." I disclosed.
The both of them looked at me, surprise on their faces. I looked at Kai, he looked like he wanted to kill me.
