Present-day...
“Lola, wait!” Sam ordered, staggering in his attempt to catch up with me. Yet despite my better judgment, I didn’t dare slow my pace.
Deep down, I knew I couldn’t outrun him; there would be no place I could go that he wouldn’t find me. If anything, I was only delaying the inevitable and ensuring my punishment would be that much worse. Regardless, I couldn’t just lay down and take it anymore; my pride wouldn’t allow it.
Launching myself up the second flight of stairs, I catch a glimpse of my brother’s bulking figure leaning on the railing below.
Our eyes lock, time seeming to slow as his lips curve upward in what could only be described as a predatory smile. The glint in his green orbs sent a wave of ice through my entire body that had nothing to do with the cold.
