Chapitre 37: The Fiendish Fiasco

On a warm summer morning, Ru was in a hurry to get to his conservatory exam. He was so excited that he couldn't sleep. It was mid-morning when Ru thought, "I might as well not sleep anymore. And he must have fallen asleep just then because he barely woke up about half an hour after the alarm went off.

"Ugh, I'm screwed. I'll never make it," Ru said. And at the same time, he kept calling Vaelan. Of course, Vaelan didn't answer. Finally, he pressed busy. And that got on Ru's nerves.

"Aww, you didn't wake up! You were supposed to drive me to the exam."

Ru put his violin on his back and ran out of the orphanage. The orphanage where he lived was outside the city, surrounded by nature. It was an old but well-kept building. There were big plane trees and colorful flowers in the garden, where children played.

"What are you doing up so early in the morning, brats!" Ru frowned as he ran forward, dodging the swarm of children running toward him.

As Ru ran out of the orphanage and towards the conservatory, he passed through the busy streets and marketplaces of the city. The Conservatory was a historic and majestic building in the city center at the edge of a large park. Ru was racing against time to get there.

"This wouldn't have happened if that damned Clockmaker had taught me those time spells! The only thing she did was kill Mrs. Thargata with a banana. That was my idea. Hey, she is a thief!"

Ru stopped after a few quick steps. "If not Vaelan, then Claude," he thought. He took the phone out of his pocket. The name "Dr. Noob" was there, though a little deeper in the directory. He pressed the call button and raised the phone to his ear.

The phone rang and rang, but its sound was different in Ru's ears. It was as if it sizzled.

"Please don't let this happen," Ru said through clenched teeth.

Suddenly, an ominous mist descended over the area. The place smelled like burning.

"Come on Noob, pick up the phone!" Ru shouted.

But the fog had already covered the streets and the buildings with soot.

"Shit!"

Dark shapes appeared where the fog was thickening. These smoky figures had eyes burning with hellish flames and claws with sharp nails. They were demons in a distorted version of human form.

"Fiends," Ru hissed.

At that moment Claude said, "Hello."

"Hello!" Ru said quickly, but a fiend grabbed the phone out of his hand.

"Give me the phone!" Ru shouted, lunging at the fiend.

The fiend took a step back. His non-existent mouth was drawn with fire on his tar face. What emerged was a filthy smile. Ru's heart beat faster as the phone crackled in the demon's grip.

"Honey, come on, that's a costly phone," Ru said sweetly.

In a few seconds, the dirty fiend smashed the phone and threw it to the ground.

Ru's nerves were on edge. "Fuck you!" he swore. He looked around for something to throw at his head, but couldn't find it. He was already afraid. The way the fiends came out of the fog one by one made him increasingly nervous.

"What do you want from me?" he shouted.

The answer was the gnashing of teeth and the horrible whisper of "Padre".

Ru turned around and looked for another way out. It seemed that he was already surrounded. He took the violin from his back and held it like a weapon.

"I'm telling you, get out of my way!" Ru challenged.

Suddenly, one of the fiends lunged forward. Its long claws dug into the ground right in front of Ru. The other fiends began to surround Ru. Ru swung his violin and tried to push the fiend back. At that moment, another fiend approached Ru, baring its sharp teeth.

"I have a music exam, you know!" Ru shouted desperately. But the fiends didn't care. They were feeding on Ru's fear and helplessness.

Ru took a deep breath and swung his violin with all his might. The fiend was reduced to ashes by the impact.

"That was easy. What are you, level one or something?" Ru said with a grin. But his smile was short-lived.

A sudden ominous wind carried the demon's ashes away. A little further on, the wind re-created it. In comparison to before, it was even larger and angrier now.

"I'm screwed," Ru muttered.

But he made another attempt. He spun the violin case. The wind he created blew away the demons' ashes, but it also caused them to catch fire and become stronger.

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!"

These creatures seemed impossible to kill. The smoke, heated by the sparks, condensed around him. His vision narrowed, and his eyes began to burn.

The fiends surrounded him in concentric circles.

One of the fiends extended its long claws towards Ru and grabbed him. Ru tried to fend off the other fiends with his violin, but he was powerless against their numbers and stamina. Within seconds, his arms and legs were grabbed. His violin fell to the ground.

"Let me go!" Ru cried, struggling with all his might.

The fiends tried to pull him down, but Ru resisted.

"Let me go!"

Caught between the fiends, Ru writhed in despair. There were already deep scratches on his arms and legs. He was bleeding.

As Ru struggled against the fiends, one of them suddenly lunged at him, ripping his shirt. The others immediately pounced on him and pushed him to the ground. The hissing sounds of the fiends echoed in his ears.

Ru was frozen with fear.

"Give us what's ours, Poppa," one of the fiends whispered, coming close to Ru's face. The others repeated the same. "Give us what's ours, Poppa."

The sharp claws slowly approached Ru's chest. It was clear that fiends wanted to rip his heart out.

"No, please don't," Ru said in a tearful voice.

"Give it to us, Poppa!"

The fiend's fingernail dug into his flesh, causing him to cry out in pain.

"Release him!" The woman's voice echoed through the area.

He paused for a moment and looked in the direction of the voice. A graceful yet powerful figure emerged from the gloom. With her long red hair and bright eyes, she looked like fire rising from the volcano.

"This boy isn't yours," she said firmly.

"He belongs to us!" said the fiend.

And with that, the orb in the woman's hand moved at the speed of light, striking the fiend in the face and exploding its head.

"What did you say? I couldn't hear you, say it again," she said sarcastically.

"He told us..." another fiend said as the orb ricocheted like a billiard ball and blew his head off.

The fiends began to retreat as the woman and the orb she commanded approached.

"You ruined my lipstick, you losers," the woman said, roaring.

"Get outta here!" she said, pointing her finger at the fiends. And she unleashed her orb among them like a wild animal.

As the fiends were reduced to ashes and scattered one by one, the woman approached Ru, who was lying unconscious on the ground.

Gently nudging him with her high-heeled shoe, she said, "You bloody jester! Do you think I don't know that you're playing dead?"

Ru felt like dying again. But his curiosity soon made him open his eyes slightly. He saw an attractive woman. And this beautiful and sexy woman knew that she was being secretly watched.

"Oh honey, you can't have forgotten me," she said with a twinkle in her eyes.

Ru was in pain from his wounds and couldn't take it anymore. He squirmed and asked, "Who are you?"

"I'm your aunt, honeybee."
