True to Daemon's promise, that night as Zina's heat seared to the peak, he didn't have sex with her for fear that he would claim her, but he took Zina to heights that she never even imagined were possible.

Zina couldn't even pretend that she was stung at his partial rejection of her. At least she was sure that she wasn't yet ready to have such ties with Daemon, not when she was always suspecting him, and he was still suspicious of her too. She didn't want to hear his voices in her head and form the highest connection that a werewolf can possibly forge with such a man.

So really, she wasn't stung that he refused to claim her, whatever his reasons might be.

But one part of her couldn't avoid thinking about the bloodied woman that he had cradled in his hands and tended to at the infirmary.
