Ezra went his way from rooftop to rooftop evading the guards, during the past year his magic seemed to have stabilized and now he was able to fully suppress his magic, he even tested it on inadvertent magic sensitives and they did not react to his magic aura. He was fairly confident in his stealth abilities right now.
Truthfully the journey was not planned, it was sort of a whim for him, partially out of boredom, partially to test his abilities but mostly because he was curious about the Shadow Walkers he heard from the Demon Hunter.
Since Evan was not with the bodyguard group he quickly decided that he wanted to go out since Evan would not be punished for his escape, he was fairly attached to him now and considered him a friend, he did not want him to be fogged on his behalf and if he were in the room he would not have decided to go. He also calculated that the two young bodyguards would not be reprimanded by Reitz or Aerwyna because they knew that Ezra was really a handful and letting two children handle him, well, they should have known that they already had it coming.
He was really intrigued by the Shadow Walkers and he longed to be free from the shackles of the castle. This was really a new feeling since he was totally fine with being inside a facility or his home all day before he was reincarnated, however, you could literally pass the time on Earth with all kinds of entertainment especially with the internet. In the castle, the most entertainment you could get was reading books or listening to a bard and the jester, the books of which were dull and the writing was really weak, while the music of this world sounded odd and the jesters jokes were not funny at all.
Ezra used his makeshift backpack that he crafted three months prior, he really did not plan to run away, rather, he just wanted to sightsee. Knowing his mother and father they would definitely be against anything they deemed dangerous, he did not ask permission. From Ezra's point of view he thought he could hold his own on the wilderness, he had seen and read wilderness survival guides before and all that information could quickly come to mind when needed, besides he was just planning to stow away on the Knights' caravan toward the edge of the border, with the perfect command of his body and AMP, he did not think there would be any problems.
With their protection it would be fairly safe, he just did not know how the knights would react, would they stop the mission and just turn back and give him over to the castle? Thus he would wait until they were near the border to show himself so that there would be little chance that he would be taken back to Castle Blackfyre. He also planned that if he missed the caravan he would go back to the castle immediately.
He brought along with him a dagger, a slingshot, fruits and some bread from the castle. He also brought along with him a map of Fulmen which he tore from a book. He estimated that the two squires he knocked out would wake up an hour or so after he left and it would take a full six hours for the servants to search for him throughout the castle.
This gave him plenty of time to follow the convoy who was easy to spot. He predicted that Reitz and Aerwyna would not conclude that he left Bren immediately. So he was fairly leisurely when he was trying to find the caravan.
He dashed toward the south gate where the caravan was supposed to exit. He dropped down the last house and hid in the shadows of the alley. Ezra waited for around an hour then the caravan appeared, at the helm was Deimos still wearing the black long coat and two daggers. He did not wear any visor as always, he really looked more like a rouge than his concept of a knight. Apparently, in this world, knights were just commoners who can do magic.
The others who followed him were in plate armour, they brought a wagon with supplies and there were also twenty regular soldiers with them, these people would most probably do logistics, scouting or hunting.
Ezra tried to look for an opening while concealing his magic aura. There were many onlookers so he could only bide his time. He had taken off his noble garments and prepared his plainer outfit. He drew close to the caravan and sneaked by through the gaps of the people. But before that he created a distraction, he made a contraption that would make two cats fall on top of each other so that they would fight, he just needed to aim at the weak point of the structure.
As the knights passed by he threw a stone at the device, he calculated the exact amount of force needed using AMP, after which the stone hit the structure and the two cats made enough noise to make everyone turn their heads. Ezra, with his superior speed, dashed at the supplies cart and hid, Sir Deimos did not look at the direction of the cats but he looked back to the cart, Ezra thought he was found out but Deimos just looked straight ahead as Ezra let out a sigh of Relief.
. . .
In Ezra's room, the two boys woke up. Hearth was the first one to come to his senses, he quickly shook Caspian awake.
"Hey, wake up Lord Ezra is missing, he knocked us out!" Hearth exclaimed, he was incredulous at the fact that a toddler knocked him out. He was also uneasy, it was a good thing that it was Caspian was the one he duelled the night before, else if it was Ezra who knocked him out like a chicken the disgrace would be unspeakably colossal. He was a bit grateful that that happened. He tried to calm down in the meantime and pondered on what steps to do next.
Caspian was groggy but he still regained his consciousness.
"Wha, huh? What happened?" asked Caspian as he rubbed his eyes, he was a bit tired from the training regimen that he was undergoing.
"Lord Ezra went outside, I don't know where he's going, what do we do? "
Even though Hearth was suppressing the panic in his voice, it was still evident that he was distraught, he never had a problem like this in his life.
Caspian was thoughtful then he replied.
"Well the only thing we can do right now is tell the Lord and Lady Blackfyre"
"But we might be punished for letting Ezra out," replied Hearth with a hint of worry.
"Well, It was our responsibility to guard him if we get punished, it means we deserve it," Caspian said plainly.
Hearth was exasperated, ever since he could remember he would answer his problems with trying to hide the mistake. He was taught that mistakes were bad and they were supposed to be concealed.
"Bu-but" Hearth tried to reply,
"Come let's go the longer we tarry the less time we could use to find Lord Ezra"
"Can't we try to find him by ourselves?" asked Hearth.
"Yes, but we must tell the Lord first."
Hearth conceded in the end and they went to the study of the Lord and told the guard to pass the information.
"WHAT!" roared Reitz, "He knocked you both out!? Dammit, I should have sent another knight instead. Don't worry both of you, it isn't your fault."
Hearth and Caspian sighed at this, they were relieved, especially Hearth, he had never experienced a flogging in his life and never wanted to.
Reitz immediately stopped the council and went out to command the servants to search every nook and cranny of the castle. They were organized into groups and searched all the parts, east, west, north and south, Hearth and Caspian were in this group, they were guilty that they lost Ezra.
Evan, however, was in a corner thinking.
Aerwyna noticed and was a bit irritated at him.
"Evan what are you doing? Could you help try to find Ezra?" asked Aerwyna with a vexed tone.
"Lady Blackfyre, I think I know where Lord Ezra went," said Evan thoughtfully.
He was one of the people Ezra spent time with the most, so he had seen Ezra's obsession with things related to magic, all toddlers were inquisitive but he was by far the most inquisitive toddler he had ever seen when it came to magic, also he was next to Ezra when Deimos was summoned. He saw the determined look on Ezra's face.
"He wants to see the Shadow Walkers."
"What? Are you sure?" Aerwyna asked,"What if he is not? We don't have enough manpower to both search for him in Bren and to chase down the caravan, "
"No need to send a lot of knights, just send me then," Evan replied
