Richard nodded in understanding and allowed her to leave without any objections. 

Richard knows that this is going to be a serious discussion, but he has to hear what Mark has to say.

"So…Mark, your tone was quite serious back there. Care to tell me what's on your mind?" Richard began, taking his seat.
