Chapitre 7: Chapter 7

The two entered the inner half of the suburb, a seemingly tranquil area that belied the tension in the air. Five minutes passed in silence, with only the sound of their footsteps breaking the stillness. "I haven't sensed anything since we arrived. Have you?" Elliot asked, his voice low. He was scanning his surroundings with his guard up, aware that danger could lurk just around the corner. One never knows what would happen in such an unpredictable environment. However…

"We're surrounded." Anastasia said, her voice steady as she continued walking forward without pausing to look around.

"What?" Which caused his heart to race, and he came to an abrupt stop, eyes wide.

"I can't accurately count how many, but there are at least over five." She explained as she came to a stop, finally taking a moment to survey their surroundings. "I can't tell where they are either."

"But why aren't they attacking?" The boy naturally questioned, recalling how the monsters they had encountered until now had attacked without hesitation.

"It's because they're waiting." Had been the reply she gave, her tone calm yet urgent.

"Waiting? Waiting for what?" Elliot asked, confusion etched on his face.

"To attack us when we're at a high disadvantage," Anastasia elaborated, her pace unbroken as she continued to move forward. "The reason I say the monsters in the inner half are more dangerous is not just because of their physical abilities; it's also due to their increased intelligence." Elliot hurried after her, eager to absorb the information she was providing. "They may not be as intelligent as those of higher ranks, but they are clever enough to exploit the weaknesses of inexperienced, panic-stricken novices like us."

"I see…" Even though he didn't completely understand the full scope of the situation unfolding around them, Elliot realised that he shouldn't let his guard down. "Will they attack us tonight?"

"Most likely," she replied, her gaze steady as she looked over to him. "When it fails, they will attack nonstop during the following nights to tire us out." Anastasia continued explaining their precarious situation as they approached a park gate, her tone serious yet calm. "We might not get much sleep this week, but at least it'll be good training for both of us." With that, the two of them pressed on, determined to find a suitable place to rest before night fell.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, darkness enveloped the landscape, and the moon took its place in the sky. Elliot kept watch while Anastasia slept, her face relaxed in slumber. The boy occupied himself by polishing his arrows, the rhythmic motion helping ease his nerves. Suddenly, something moving in the shadows caught his attention, stirring a sense of urgency within him. "Miss Anastasia!" he called out, rushing over to the woman. However, to his surprise, he found that she was already awake, her rapier gripped firmly in her hand.

"Yeah, they're here," she said, her voice low and focused, as her hand began drawing her blade with practiced ease. "Get ready and start with the plan." The boy nodded, adrenaline surging through him as he grabbed an arrow, placing it over the fire and watching it ignite in flames. With a steady hand, he nocked the fiery arrow onto his bowstring and drew back, releasing it into the darkness. The flames illuminated the area, casting flickering shadows that danced along the ground, and provided Anastasia with crucial moments to assess their attackers.

What she saw sent chills down her spine: a creature that resembled a massive python, its serpentine body coiling and undulating, the size of a Cosion. Its scales shimmered bright scarlet, reminiscent of flames licking at the air. "They're Flathom." She whispered, recognising the creatures from the game. With urgency, she activated [Insight] to study its stats, knowing that understanding their enemy's abilities would be vital in the battle that was about to ensue.

"Plan Flames." Anastasia grabbed a pair of bottles which were filled with water. At the same moment two Flathom launched from the shadows. She threw the bottles over the two creatures' heads.

[Quirk Shot] Elliot at this time had pulled back his arrow and activated one of his skills.

Quirk Shot

Level 10 (Rank F)

A skill that allows one to quickly fire off multiple arrows one after another within 5 sec.

The arrows were fired in the directions of the Flathom. However, one took a deep breath before blowing out flames. It didn't pay attention to the bottled water above their heads. The arrows had turned to ash due its [Fire Breath]. All but two which were fired at the last second and not at the Flathom but towards the bottles. They pierced right through them, causing the water to spill across the Flathom. One would think that it was weird to do such a thing, however, Anastasia knew better.

The moment the water landed on the two began hissing in pain and agony. The parts of their body that were hit caused the skin to boil and bubbled. Water was the main weakness of the Flathom. It had been due to their scales being fused with flames.

Anastasia saw them wailing in pain. She dashed, with rapier in hand, at the pair. The blade head right for the neck that belongs to one of them, which was like butter and its head came flying off. Her blade then moved onto the second before it had time to recover. The Flathom managed to barely dodged the blade, however, it didn't avoid the rapier completely as its eye had been sliced. Anastasia's back was to the monster due to it moving with increasing speed. However, the young woman didn't move even as it was about to sink its fangs into her. It was then when an arrow had fired into its head, Elliot had fired the shot in order to slow down its movement. It allowed Anastasia to spin around with her sword towards the Flathom and took its head just like the first. Both heads were now rolling across the floor before the next tried to attack them again. Elliot fired off his arrows as distractions.

[Lighting Bolt]

A large bolt of lightning had then come flying at the creature and the moment it hit the creature, it had completely killed it with a strong blast of lightning.
