Chapitre 29: The Last Mercy

**Fifth Floor**

Bai Yi watched the events unfold below him, a small smile tugging at his lips. No wonder the gamblers had been curious, asking what was happening, but Chifeng had refused to answer.

It became clear now—the gamblers had been nothing more than sacrifices.

Bai Yi pulled out a silver-level concealment and invisibility potion, drinking it swiftly. The moment the liquid touched his lips, all traces of the White Plague vanished, hidden from sight by the potion's effects.

With a fluid motion, Bai Yi reached into his windbreaker and drew out the [Poisonous Blade] belonging to the assassin known as Black Rose. Then, without hesitation, he leaped from the fifth-floor window.

In the air, 28 worker bees fluttered down with the swirling wind and snow, immediately entering the folds of Bai Yi's windbreaker as he landed.

Leaning against the nearby wall, Bai Yi waited silently. The resources required to bring forth a deity onto Xia were immense, and even more so to strengthen its influence.

His communication device beeped, and a crackling electric noise filled his ear. Sabo's shrill voice broke through: "My friend, everything is ready. Do not worry."

Along with the voice came a strange, almost palpable wave of energy. Bai Yi felt a shift in his body, as though he was connected to something beyond this world.

It was the blessing of Sabo. A brilliant mind with a fascination for space and contracts, Sabo had taught Bai Yi the secrets of the folding contract, one that could hide information on a second, hidden page. Once signed, the contract's effects would take root.

Bai Yi did not pry into Sabo's own secrets. Theirs was a partnership, and he trusted that as long as Sabo helped him navigate the current dangers, particularly from Night Rose, his future would be bright.

He made his way to an abandoned factory not far from the casino and stood in a shadowed corner, waiting.

Meanwhile, Magath exhaled deeply, hot breath escaping through his exposed fangs. He hurried to Mossen and whispered, "Leader, I've taken care of a level 30 blood mage. There are seven members of the Scarlet Sect here, four more on the fifth floor. I haven't dealt with them yet."

Mossen nodded, his gaze cold. He raised his hand and clenched his fist.

Instantly, 1,400 soldiers, commanded by Garrett, surged into position, surrounding the area. Only the Mage Corps remained on standby.

The Mage Corps were different from the others. They wielded enormous destructive power, their role more pivotal than any other.

Mossen silently gave his orders. "The Wucheng Army will handle the final cleanup. In ten minutes, anyone in East City who isn't part of the Apocalypse Legion or Will's family will be considered an enemy!"

Kami, without hesitation, obeyed. With a swift motion, he signaled for five hundred soldiers from the Will family to fan out, covering the perimeter and even encircling the Apocalypse Legion.

The Will family's focus was on the stolen artifact; everything else was secondary.

"Understood!"

A silver-level soldier swiftly took out a communication device, relaying orders at a remarkable pace. The Wucheng Army moved to sweep through the houses, ignoring the resistance from civilians and the biting cold.

Buckets of holy water poured relentlessly over the civilians. Time was running out, and there was no more time for explanations.

Such an operation would normally take far longer, but Mossen, the future city lord, was trained by the old lord himself. To him, it was as much a duty as it was an advantage. As city lord, you could claim vast resources from the Federation, but it came with responsibility—to the people.

Nobles had more importance than commoners, yes, but respect for life was paramount. Exploiting the masses was not an option. So long as the Palace of Knowledge stood and children in the common areas could attend free schools, so long as the people lived, the city lord would be respected.

These ten minutes, then, were both an act of kindness and responsibility.

As the Scarlet Sect members on the periphery were discovered, they were swiftly cut down by gunfire. Despite the Wucheng Army only having 500 energy guns, the elite soldiers wielded them effectively.

By the tenth minute, the cleanup was complete. The Wucheng Army evacuated the last civilians, disregarding any resistance and the frigid winter.

The sounds of chaos faded. From where the demon lion had fallen, it rose to its feet and let out a deafening roar.

With a low chant, magic pulsed through the air, pushing back the snowstorm and silencing all sounds. Nearly a hundred fireballs illuminated the night sky, hurtling toward the casino.

**Boom! Boom! Boom!**

The ground trembled as violent explosions rocked the casino, and the heat radiated outward. The soldiers, though accustomed to such chaos, felt the warmth of the flames.

Mossen's voice was steady as he ordered, "Earth Dragon."

The spells from the Mage Corps erupted in unison, causing the ground to tremble violently. With terrifying force, earth dragons broke through the surface, wreaking havoc across the area. Buildings crumbled, and thick clouds of smoke and dust spread.

The snow continued to fall, but it could not dampen the destructive magic.

Bai Yi, amidst the chaos, followed the collapsing earth beneath him, burrowing deeper into the ground. The casino was crumbling into an unstable hollow, and with the destruction of the magic array, the hidden formations no longer shielded the area from prying eyes.

The ground buckled beneath him, but Bai Yi pressed on, his physical prowess guiding him through the falling debris. As he traversed the underground labyrinth, it became clear—the network of tunnels was as complex as an ant nest.

To the east, near the city gate, Bai Yi noticed a flicker of blood-red light. Something was amiss—a sacrifice was nearing completion.

Without hesitation, he made a quick judgment. He sprinted toward the west, choosing a narrow passage, and disappeared into the shadows, evading the Apocalypse Legion's encirclement.
