Chapitre 2: Alchemist Demon

As the golden light dissipated, Bai Yi clenched his fists, feeling a surge of newfound strength. His physical power had increased slightly, and his mental capacity felt sharper. Most importantly, a hint of silver light now shimmered within his magic. Was this a direct transformation?

And the panel he had tried to summon countless times before—now it finally responded.

Players would arrive in one year and three months. With his prophetic ability, Bai Yi knew the general outline of events, though minor details might shift. The butterfly effect might alter smaller things, but it couldn't sway the gods' designs.

Focusing his mind, a long panel appeared before him.

Evaluation: A lucky soul who has altered his own fate. No longer striving to inherit the title of Blood Prison's Greedy Wolf, he seeks to become a new type of boss. Perhaps, at this moment, an alchemical legend is being born.

Bai Yi's eyes brightened. Expertise was like a passive skill, providing advantages similar to a warrior's natural resilience. And with the boss template, he would receive a new passive ability every ten levels—a powerful gift.

No wonder bosses were so difficult to kill; these passive abilities stacked into incredible power. If two warriors fought at the same level, but one had a defense-boosting passive skill, that warrior would have a huge advantage.

In his gaming days, he had worked hard to unlock the alchemist's High Focus. But what was this Profiteer skill?

Pushing aside the minor details, Bai Yi examined his **Alchemist Demon** skill, the true prize. At the silver rank, every alchemist had to choose a specialization—pharmacy, technology, or transformation. Players were required to choose, while native alchemists chose of their own volition, each creating a unique path for themselves.

No one could master the entire vast system of alchemical knowledge; time constraints made focusing on a specialization essential. Upon reaching the silver rank, alchemists faced even greater challenges and had to subdivide further. Pharmacy split into toxicology, curses, and enhancements; technology split into energy and material manipulation; and transformation split into mechanical modifications and organic reshaping.

Each branch was a trove of knowledge, nearly impossible to fully explore. However, the Alchemist Demon's doubled comprehension rate granted Bai Yi more freedom—he could choose to specialize or diversify.

His usually pale face now showed a hint of color as he eagerly examined his available boss specialties. There were three options:

[Magic Power Surge] – Enhances the purity of your magic, increasing the quality of alchemy circles by 30%.

Bai Yi's eyes gleamed. This would likely make his alchemical creations more valuable.

[Spiritual Growth] – Each improvement raises spirit, currently adding +90.

Mental strength was crucial for an alchemist, directly affecting success rates in creating potions and weapons. Strong mental power also represented greater potential and allowed access to psychic abilities for combat.

[Strength Growth] – Each level-up grants increased physical strength, currently adding +30.

After considering the choices, Bai Yi selected **Spiritual Growth**. Magic purity was valuable, but his high intelligence and spiritual attributes indicated he was already suited for spiritual expertise. Low failure rates and vast knowledge were more important than brute strength for an alchemist.

To cover his physical needs, alchemists had access to transformations—mechanical limbs or biological modifications. Silver-ranked alchemists were capable of fighting silver-ranked warriors, despite their lack of combat skills.

With excitement, Bai Yi activated the remaining two specialties.

Out of the six new options, five dealt with defense, agility, or strength. Though these attributes were exaggerated for most bosses, Bai Yi, a scholar, had an arsenal of equipment and followers to rely on.

Then he saw a particularly intriguing specialty:

[Mental Defense]– Your mental power forms a natural layer of defense, growing stronger with increased mental power.

Finally, he chose:

[Soul Gourmet]– Absorbing souls strengthens your own, bolstering your spirit.

Feeling his spirit intensify, Bai Yi admired his updated panel. He saw hope. The legendary Alchemist Sage had created alchemical technology that could challenge even the gods. In the northern Star Federation, his technological weaponry could counter—or even kill—legends.

And with the Federation's protection, alchemists like Bai Yi had a safeguard. As long as alchemists survived the initial onslaught, their full capabilities would be revealed.

Leaving his wolf specimen behind, Bai Yi walked out, three small mechanical devices lifting the old wolf's remains. Old wolf meat was tough; better to dispose of it.

In the outer chamber, he gazed out at the swirling snow, deep in thought.

One year and three months remained until players arrived. In that time, he had much to plan. What did it mean to have a boss template rather than an NPC's? Could he issue quests to players? Accept their quests?

These were pressing questions. And as for the possibility of being mistaken for a monster by players—unlikely. As long as he held a position in the Dawn Federation, he would be safe.

Lost in thought, Bai Yi murmured, "Connect me with Mr. Sabo."

A light pulsed from the communicator, inscribed with alchemical symbols. A shrill, sly voice soon filled the room. "Ah, my friend, you finally contacted me. I've been waiting."

"Mr. Sabo, let's skip the pleasantries. Given our history, there's no need for formality." Bai Yi smiled.

Alchemy, like wizardry, was a costly profession, and Bai Yi had earned most of his experience points through Sabo's aid.

Sabo's voice brightened. "Mr. Bai Yi, still as direct as ever. Alright, the border guard loved your new energy gun model. The Will family wants to order 500 units. When can we discuss the price?"

"Five hundred?" Bai Yi's excitement spiked.

"Yes, five hundred. You know what the Will family's backing means."

Bai Yi steadied himself. "As always, Mr. Sabo, I'll work around the clock. With materials in place, I can complete the order in half a month."

"My friend, your speed impresses me. The materials will arrive at your warehouse by evening. For now, I must entertain some visiting friends." With a laugh, Sabo ended the call.

Bai Yi couldn't hide his grin. The energy gun was an alchemical marvel he had created, based on Barrett's prototype, using alchemical energy science. It didn't use gunpowder but rather condensed magical energy to propel specialized bullets with more force than the original.

Capable of killing level-30 warriors and unprepared wizards, the weapon had brought Bai Yi a fair share of fame.

Sabo, the quartermaster of Eastwood City, acted as Bai Yi's liaison, profiting handsomely from their arrangement. Through Sabo, Bai Yi's inventions fetched much higher prices.

Perhaps this deal would bring him advanced alchemical knowledge from the Federation.

With his communicator in hand, Bai Yi left, planning his journey back to Tobu Castle. The "golden finger" had been secured, and this base, a place for hidden secrets, awaited further development.
