Chapitre 11: Chapter 11: New Ship

Daniel Venata was taking deep, long breaths.

He'd banked his little ambush on his new Mk ll Holler Missile Launcher being installed before the Tilan closed with him.

He knew that his Shield Generator could handle a beating, but there were limits.

The Imperial Destroyer was no doubt going to try and erase him and the Venator to prevent what ever intel could be found in this system from being leaked to the Federation.

He looked on in gleeful surprise as his gamble payed off.

The dumbass commander hadn't even activated his shields or PDCs, allowing for two quick missile launches to do devastating damage.

His first missile had been targeting the middle the ship, trying to destroy all of the Tilan's Rail Guns before they could fire on him, but unfortunately the missile has strayed and only killed the forward most har-points.

The second missile had been dead on, crippling the Destroyer and preventing escape.

Daniel was now review the Report of Viable Components available, paying special attention to the Reactor, the final pice needed for his upgrade.

As he sent out the Freyr Drone, he considered the potential upgrade options he would get once he retrieved the Reactor core and subsequently upgraded his entire ship.

He was 50% sure he would get a new ship class, but was unsure of what sort he would obtain.

Daniel sat in thought, making sure to keep an eye on the Freyr.

As he watched the Drone slicing apart the Reactor, witnessing the lights along the Tilan wink out in groups, he wondered at the "Lord Captain" whom he'd bested.

Obviously the idiot was bloodthirsty if he had killed a defenseless mining barge like the Sheffield, but also shrewd by getting close to the Venator under the guise of a boarding party.

Daniel had been surprised when his acting had payed off, never expecting it to be so convincing.

As the final lights went out, the Freyr deactivated its laser and began its journey back to the Drone Bay.

As it docked into the new, much bigger bay, a notification popped into his view.

[Ding]

[All components for new Ship Classification have been obtained, would you like to begin Upgrade?]

[Warning: User will experience a blackout while the Star Ship Avatar Updates.]

Daniel considered the warning, wondering at how long he would be out, when another notification appeared under the first.

[Ding]

[FNS Prince-Class Light Cruiser Lament has jumped into the Markes System.]

Daniel cursed.

He quickly shut down all of his Modules, activating the Hovarth Drive.

"System, take us to the Prax System. That ship will have too many questions I can't answer."

[Yes, Commander]

Moments later, the Venator jumped away, leaving the Tilan in the arms of the Federation.

For a mere fraction of a second, the Venator was pulled along the in cosmic current, before appearing in the uninhabited Prax System.

Daniel did a deep Sensor scan, looking out for sign of any lurking pirates, before letting out a slow breath.

He returned his attention to the notification screen.

He steeled himself, not wasting time on frivolities, and spoke.

"System, begin Ship Classification Change."

[Yes, Commander]

The processors that were Daniel Venata powered down, giving the sensation of falling asleep.

6 Days Later

Daniel was suddenly awake, skipping the drowsiness of a normal awakening.

He momentarily wondered if he'd had a dream, memories of a mysterious ship still on his mind.

A sigh of relief escaped him, glad he hadn't dreamed the last week.

He was surprised when he realized that he'd hunted dow the Tilan much quicker than he'd originally thought.

Maybe he had a back for bounty hunting.

Then Daniel mentally smacked his forehead, chastising himself for forgetting the reason he'd been asleep in the first place.

He quickly called up the [Ship View], excited to see what had changed.

A lot, evidently.

The Venator, while keeping the same basic arrow-shape, was now easily six million tonnes, out massing the Tilan by a hefty million tonnes.

Everything was bigger, even the Weapons.

The Mk ll Ullr Rail Guns and the Mk ll Holler Missile Launcher were now much bigger, taking up the entire bow of the Venator.

Every visible module, the Shield Generator, the Drone Bay, the Sauveterre Engine, and the Cargo Bay were now scaled to fit exactly how and where they'd been on the ship when it had been a Corvette.

He stomped down on his enthusiasm, refusing to let it take over again, before selecting the [Review].

Daniel's eyes caught on the new Ship Classification, as well as the new Weapon Systems names.

Even he noticed the completely new sounding names, realizing that the new names had no linguistic relationship with the old ones.

"System, how come the names changed? Why not just increase the Mk?

[Commander, the civilization the Ship Classification and Weapon Systems names are from had a habit of naming their weapons after Ancient Gods. The Pantheon that produced the names of your Corvette was considered weaker than the Pantheon your Destroyer's Systems are named after. Therefore, the civilization named their more powerful weapons after them.]

Daniel thought about that. Naming weapons after gods wasn't surprising to him. In fact, the Empire named all of their Battleships after their old gods.

He was still curious about the civilization that created these technological wonders.

Not only was the Nun-Class Destroyer slightly bigger than the Imperial Lyre-Class or the Federation Jalcon-Class, but the Ullr and the Holler had been much more powerful than their counter parts as well.

Daniel had reflexively referred to the upgraded weapons by their obvious Mk ll variant without changing their names.

He didn't bother with any of the other upgrades, since he knew their new attributes.

He instead selected the [Drone Command], since he was curious about his options.

**

Daniel leaned bak in his mental chair, finger's steeping in front of his face.

His imagination had gotten pretty active.

All three drones were self-explanatory.

The Horus Drone was going to be used in CQB Role, peppering an Opponents defenses and depleting their shield.

The Heka Drone would orbit the Venator itself, repairing damage to the Hull of the ship.

The Pharaoh Drone would command its own Drone Fleet, separate of Daniel's direct control.

Daniel thought through his options carefully.

What to choose?
