The bird shrieked again, a bone-chilling cry that sent a ripple of heat through the air.

It shot forward like a missile, the flames around its body swirling with a malevolent purpose. Kai didn't have time to dodge — it was too fast, too direct. But what he did have was speed, and the lightning that crackled in his veins.

Kai slammed his hands together, the familiar electric hum vibrating through his body as he focused on the bird.

He could feel the surge of power in his chest, his body practically humming with energy. With a growl, he thrust his palms outward, and a bolt of lightning as bright as the sun itself shot toward the bird.

For a moment, everything seemed to slow down. The bird was still racing toward him, the flames surrounding it licking at the air.

The bolt of lightning shot forward in an instant, its path straight and true.
