Chapter 19: Taking the Snow Empress Away
"The reason soul beasts can't become gods starts with the Dragon God War in the Divine Realm," Du Qianjue began to explain.
"In ancient times, the Divine Realm was actually known as the Dragon God Divine Realm. The Dragon God was the most powerful being, and under him were the Nine Dragon Kings, each possessing strength on par with a God King. However, for reasons unknown, the Dragon God went mad.
"In his madness, the Dragon God rampaged through the Divine Realm, indiscriminately killing. The Nine Dragon Kings united with other gods to stop him, but they were no match for the Dragon God and were nearly wiped out.
"Eventually, the Dragon God regained brief clarity but found that the Divine Realm was almost entirely destroyed. Taking advantage of this moment of clarity, the Dragon God asked the first God of Shura to split him in two. The God of Shura agreed, and with the Dragon God lowering his defenses, he was divided into two parts.
"These two parts became the Golden Dragon King and the Silver Dragon King. The Golden Dragon King, being bloodthirsty, continued killing in the Divine Realm and was eventually sealed by five God Kings in the Forbidden Land of Gods. The Silver Dragon King, injured by the God of Shura, hid in the Douluo Continent to heal. This being is the ruler of soul beasts in the depths of the Star Dou Forest, referred to as 'Master' by Di Tian.
"The Divine Realm was almost devoid of beast gods due to the Dragon God's rampage. In his final moments, to prevent beast gods from being bullied by human gods, the Dragon God decreed that soul beasts could not become gods.
"That's the truth of it all."
With that, everyone fell silent.
Du Bushi, due to his limited knowledge, felt like he was listening to a fantastical story. The records of gods on the Douluo Continent were scarce, so he had no real understanding of such ancient events.
The Snow Empress, however, who knew a bit more, was horrified. She was aware of the ruler of the Star Dou Forest but had no idea that this being was the Silver Dragon King, a part of the Dragon God.
"But to prevent beast gods from being bullied, wouldn't it make more sense to promote them? Why decree that soul beasts cannot become gods?" the Ice Empress asked, puzzled.
"Who knows? The Dragon God still exists in some form, constantly seeking someone to inherit his position and redeem him," Du Qianjue shrugged.
The Dragon God retained his dragon soul and divine status, hiding in the Dragon Tomb, waiting for someone worthy to inherit his position.
"So, the gods of the Divine Realm merely went along with it. The real reason soul beasts can't become gods is the Dragon God."
"I can't understand..." The Snow Empress looked despondent.
"In any case, it's a fact that soul beasts can't become gods. Even the transformed soul beast who ascended with the successor of the God of Shura a thousand years ago didn't truly become a god. She had no divine position. As the wife of the successor, she was more like the scabbard for the God of Shura's sword. At best, she was a priestess without a divine title."
Du Qianjue mercilessly shattered the Snow Empress's dreams. If she chose to reincarnate, she would likely be captured during her transformation, just like in the original story.
Unless the Ice Bear King helped her, the outcome would probably remain unchanged.
Therefore, Du Qianjue decided to use another method to win over the Snow Empress, making her his companion.
"So, I have no other choice, do I?" The Snow Empress smiled bitterly at Du Qianjue.
"Actually, you do," Du Qianjue said mysteriously.
"Really?" The Snow Empress's eyes lit up with hope.
"Your current dilemma lies in your imminent demise due to the upcoming 700,000-year tribulation, which you have no confidence in surviving," Du Qianjue explained.
The Snow Empress nodded.
"Humans aren't inherently more talented than you, an ice spirit born of nature. It's just that the world's rules limit you," Du Qianjue continued. "So, Snow Empress, you don't need to transform into a human. Your current body is the best. I have a way to help you retain your soul beast form, surpass 700,000 years, and even go further. When I become a god, I can help you inherit a divine position or create your own."
"What's the method?" The Snow Empress felt something was off. Why did this human seem to be scheming something? What could be so precious that could help her survive the tribulation? How would she repay him? By offering herself?
Her mind was in turmoil, and her expression became quite animated.
"Ten-thousand-year-old Mystic Ice Marrow..."
"Impossible! How could the Extreme North still have Ten-thousand-year-old Mystic Ice Marrow?" the Ice Empress shouted.
"Yeah, I ate most of the Mystic Ice Marrow in the Extreme North back then, which is why I could reach nearly a million years," the Skydream Iceworm nodded.
Seeing the Snow Empress's puzzled look, Du Qianjue shrugged.
"I didn't say it was from the Extreme North."
"Is there really some?" the Snow Empress asked hopefully. "What do I have to give in return?"
"Yes, there are over forty pieces, each more than a meter long! As for the cost..." Du Qianjue confirmed, then glanced at the Snow Empress's flawless body with a smirk. "Would you be willing to be with me?"
"!!!" The Ice Empress's head turned green.
"What?!" The Skydream Iceworm's eyes widened.
"Impressive!" Du Bushi cheered internally.
The Snow Empress was stunned. She had thought offering herself was just her imagination. Who knew Du Qianjue actually had this idea?
Looking at Du Qianjue again, she saw someone with the potential to become a god, though currently weak. He had revealed many secrets to her and could save her life...
It didn't seem like a bad match.
Could this renowned Snow Empress really end up with his great-grandson?
Du Bushi was dumbfounded.
In the spiritual sea, the Skydream Iceworm and the Ice Empress were also stunned. The Ice Empress felt it was unbelievable and infuriating, while the Skydream Iceworm worried the Snow Empress might kill Du Qianjue in anger.
The scene was silent.
Only Du Qianjue remained calm, while the Snow Empress wore a complex, animated expression.
After much inner conflict, the Snow Empress nodded.
If given the chance to live, no one would choose to die, including the Snow Empress. Besides, Du Qianjue had left a good impression on her. Choosing to be with him wasn't a bad option.
Du Qianjue was pleased, stepping forward to take the Snow Empress's delicate hand.
He had many reasons for his decision, not just his affection for her across two lifetimes, or her beauty.
The Snow Empress could greatly help him, a fact he was well aware of.
On the Douluo Continent, there were already many examples of love between humans and soul beasts. One more wouldn't hurt...
A bit of romance is normal in a world like Douluo.
