Chapitre 21: Aftermath Summary

It has been half a year since the Kamish Incident. Many changes happened within this time.

The amount of mana around the world increased by a lot leading to the formation of larger and more difficult gates. The number of deaths in Gates also increased due to the increase in difficulty in completing gates.

In South Korea alone more than 250 hunters had died within a time period of six months. The Government was then forced to pass a law that prohibits entry of gates without a minimum of 10 Hunters in your party.

Byeol would have also been forced to follow this law, but using his authority as a National Rank Hunter and his father's help, the Government was forced to pardon him.

In San Francisco a huge funeral was arranged to mourn the deaths of all the Hunters and the civilians that had died.

GoTech was successfully able to properly provide telecommunication services for the rebuilding of California and also became the sole provider of telecommunication for the Californian Government. They also introduced their new products, Excavation Tools for use inside Gates, which sold like hot cakes because it was extremely difficult and costly to excavate resources inside gates without constantly replacing the tools. Though these didn't make GoTech one of the ten largest companies in the world, it gave them a growth chart never before seen in the world. Though the fact that the owner of the company is a Nationally Rank Hunter might also have something to do with it.

Many people didn't believe the difference between normal S-Ranks and National Rank Hunters as the American Government prevented the release of any kind of footage from the cameras that were still intact outside the battle radius because of the footage of people dying left and right and many would find releasing that kind of footage insensitive.

But the sceptics all shut up when a ridge was discovered off the coast of San Francisco which was announced to be formed due to battle. The ridge was so deep that the bottom was still not discovered and was speculated to be a dozen kilometres deep at the minimum. The width of the ridge was 500 meters while the length stretched on for almost 400 kilometres.

In front of such an overwhelming show of strength no one said anything against the National Level Hunters.

Though to Byeol, such things were nothing as he was more focused on his own things.

Within these few months he was trying to develop devices like mobile phones that work on mana crystals. Though they would have a long life, extremely high performance and great durability, it would be extremely expensive. But he had no problem with it as he will make this product for higher tier customers.

On the other hand he was rapidly clearing up gates and killing monsters. Though he is also trying to experiment a little.

Whenever he was inside a gate he would remove his limiter, the halo, and try to use it without his power breaking apart space and reality. Though he was unsuccessful in his endeavor, he was able to make some theories on how to do it.

His other experiment was to communicate with monsters. In the Gates, he would capture a few monsters and try to communicate with them. Though he was successful in understanding their language, the only thing the monsters spoke was, "Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!", at which he would promptly kill them.

.

Today Byeol was sitting in his room on how he could use his power without destroying reality.

'The Rulers had enough power to passively destroy reality like me, but they don't. How do they do this?'

He could ask the Ruler possessing his father, but he decided to limit his communication with them to the minimum as he still didn't know everything about them and honestly still didn't trust even if they spoke the truth.

'What have I seen whenever I have met the Rulers? They have a huge amount of Spiritual Energy and they have a high amount of control over it. But they don't restrain or keep this energy in check but they still exist in this plane without destroying it.'

Byeol could feel that he was nearing the answer. He was extremely close to it, when he suddenly jerked his head towards the window. He narrowed his eyes and walked up to it.

He opened the window and observed the surroundings.

Something was wrong somewhere.

He jumped out of his room which was on the thirtieth story. His three pairs of wings manifested behind him with each of them made out of fire.

He flapped his wings once and immediately the speed of sound with his speed still increasing.

Within a few seconds, he arrived in front of a small gate with a few people around it. From the amount of mana he could feel coming out of the gate he could tell it was an E-Rank Gate. In Fact the mana was so low that it should be classified as a different class entirely. Something like F or G-Rank. But he didn't know why, but he kept on getting a dangerous feeling from the Gate.

He landed before the gate while his wings folded up. Suddenly a woman walked up to him. She was wearing a set of leather armour and had a sword on her back.

"M-M-Mr. Go B-Byeol?" The woman stuttered out after recognising the man as one of six National Level Hunters.

Byeol looked behind the woman and saw nine Hunters each of them E-Rank. The woman alone was a D-Rank.

"This Gate is mine." Byeol declared with a tone of finality in his voice.

"W-what?!" The woman exclaimed. But before she could say anything more Byeol's hands disappeared for a second with them reappearing with the woman's phone in his hand.

After a few clicks he threw the phone back to the woman. The woman saw the screen and exclaimed in surprise. Her account was currently stacked with enough money to last her several generations.

"Distribute it among yourselves." Byeol declared one last time before he walked inside the gate.

Suddenly the gate started shifting and morphing. The colour of the gate changed from dull blue to a bright red.

The Hunters near the gate immediately called the Hunter's Association and told them about the Gate.

.

Byeol looked behind and saw that the gate had turned Red before it disappeared entirely.

'A Red Gate? Looks like I would need to clear the Gate to exit.'

He closed his eyes and started feeling the flow of mana around him. He opened his eyes and looked upwards while releasing a sigh.

'Looks like my suspicions were correct. Instead of releasing mana, this Gate is instead absorbing mana from Earth.'

He walked forward and saw a huge monster in front of him. The monster was about 10 meters tall and 30 meters long. It was a humongous dog with three heads. A Cerberus.

It had brown fur, bright red eyes and large canines.

Detecting Byeol, it woke up from its sleep and was about to attack him when suddenly it disappeared.

Byeol stood where the Cerberus was a moment ago with his fire sword burning brightly in his hand.

He pushed open the double doors that were behind the Cerberus and saw a city. A city larger than Seoul with a column of black fire rising upwards.

'Looks like it will take some time.'
