As the party went on, Kelly was still looking for all means to bring Lydia down, all to no avail. she hated the fact that Lydia became the center of attention, she had to do something.
She watched with disdain as Lydia was talking with grandpa, they were laughing, then Lydia fed him a piece of cake.
Grandpa laughed, patting Lydia's hair.
'Bitch!' Kelly muttered beneath her breath.
How did she win that old man's heart, something she has been trying to do but couldn't. Grandpa hardly talks to her not to talk of laughing or patting her head but here is Lydia enjoying those benefits. She wishes Lydia could just disappear. She decided to ruin their moment of fun.
"Grandpa, I told you the strawberry cake tasted better," Lydia said, beaming with a smile.
"That's right dear" Grandpa nodded his head, he took two glasses of champagne from a passing waiter and handed one to Lydia.
"Thank you" Lydia took a sip.
"Mmm,classic," Lydia said.
"I learnt you and my grandson signed the divorce papers" Grandpa said with a stern look, which caused Lydia to pause.
"Uh, yes" She answered, lowering her gaze to avoid eye contact with him.
Grandpa kept quiet for a while, he felt disappointed as sweet Lydia is no longer his granddaughter-in-law.
He sighed.
"Do visit us sometimes, and take care of yourself." He finally said.
"Okay "
"I also heard that you rejected the money and properties given to you which are worth three billion, is that true?" He asked.
"Yes grandpa "
"Why?"
"Nothing, I don't need anything from Clinton, I can survive on my own " Lydia drank more champagne.
"I want to know as you are no longer Clinton wife, the Benjamin's won't be able to help you when problem arises, you should have accepted it "
"Grandpa, I'm fine, I promise " Lydia held his hands and looked deep into his eyes.
Grandpa nodded his head but he wasn't conceived.
"I'm sorry I made you pass through this"
"No, it's not your fault, I and Clinton just aren't made for each other"
"So tell me, are you going home?" Grandpa asked Lydia which she was about to answer but Kelly interrupted them.
"Hey Lydia, can I see you for a minute?"Kelly said.
"Oh grandpa, happy birthday" Kelly tried to hug grandpa but he shifted back, away from her and left.
Kelly felt embarrassed in front of Lydia, she managed to fake a smile.
"You wanted to talk about what?" Lydia asked.
"Can we go outside, it's kinda noisy here with the music and what I want to say is pretty important"
"Mm okay," Lydia dropped the glass and followed Kelly outside.
Seeing her leaving, her bodyguards wanted to follow as well but Lydia signaled to them to wait behind.
Kelly took Lydia outside and sat on the bench near the swimming pool. Lydia sat beside her.
"What do you want to talk about?"
Kelly faced the outside side, avoiding contact with Lydia.
"Collect the money," She said.
"What?" Lydia raised a brow.
"Wait, what money are you talking about?"She asked.
Kelly faced her "The three billion, why did you reject it?, I want you to collect it!"
Lydia burst out in laughter "Excuse me?" She tried to stop herself from laughing further.
"What's funny?" Kelly asked.
"You. You sound ridiculous"
"You want me to collect the three billion offered to me, why?"
Kelly rolled her eyes at Lydia "I thought you don't want it?" She asked Lydia.
"Yes, I rejected it,"Lydia answered.
"I want you to collect it and give it to me, simple."
"What?"
"Any problem?"
"No wait, you want me to collect the three billion and give it to you, why? Why would you think I would do that ?"
"Just do it"
"Do you need money or what? You can ask Clinton, why do you want my three billion dollars?"
"Look here, I'm not shameless like you, do you know how much three billion dollars is? Do you know what you can do with it? Just give it to me, do you have a problem with that?"
"I will take it as you are drunk and don't know what you are saying?" Lydia stood up to leave and Kelly stood up after her.
"Why are you so wicked and evil?" She yelled at her.
Lydia turned back to face her "What did you just say?"
"You had Clinton, you have grandpa's love which I struggled so hard to win his heart but he just hates me" Kelly blurted out with pain written on her face.
"Grandpa doesn't hate you"
"Really? yet he shifted when I wanted to hug him, he does not eat the food I cook and when I got him a cup of coffee, he threw it away, now tell me he doesn't hate me?" Tears welled up in her eyes.
"Grandpa did that?, I'm sorry "Lydia moved closer to her but Kelly shifted back, cleaning her tears.
"Huh, having pity for me or pretending like you care?"
"You talk to Clinton about it" Lydia crossed her hands, staring at her.
"You said what?, I liked Clinton since we were child but I wasn't ready for marriage then when he asked me, I didn't expect him to marry someone else,"
"You had Clinton, you must be so happy "
"Enough, Clinton never loved me!" Lydia blurted out.
"Really, then just leave silently. You are divorced so leave and don't come back. Why are you bringing attention to yourself, are you that shameless?, even after the divorce which I so much anticipated happened, Clinton is supposed to think about me not you,"
Lydia was speechless, She felt guilty.
"Just please, apologize to Clinton and take the money back, huh, please do this for me, collect the three billion dollars " Kelly put her hands together, pleading.
"You disgust me" Lydia rolled her eyes at Kelly.
"I'm the victim here, I endured a series of maltreatments from Clinton and his family yet you opened your filthy mouth to say this? I can't count the number of times I caught you with Clinton on the bed. Despite being married to me and you knew this, he took you out to dinners, shopping, and you flew out of the country together.
Clinton never takes me out! I never leave the country with him, yet you feel so cheap because of money, now let me ask, do you really love Clinton or his money!" Lydia shouted at Kelly.
She had had enough of this disgusting self pity.
She wanted to leave but Kelly pulled her back aggressively.
"You can't walk out on me!" Kelly yelled, violently grabbing Lydia's hand. Lydia tried to free herself from Kelly's grip but Kelly wasn't letting go.
Lydia was pulling her hand with force and when Kelly let go.
*Splash*
Lydia fell down into the pool.
"Help me, help!" Liya screamed, struggling in the pool.
"I can't swim, Kelly he…help…me please"
Kelly stood still shocked by what just happened, it was a mistake, she didn't mean for this to happen.
"I'm sorry" She said, she looked around the pool and if she saw a life jacket or a rope then an idea came to her mind.
'Why can't I get rid of her for good?" She thought.
"Kelly!" Liya called out, trying to catch her breath, she kept padding in the pool to keep herself from drowning.
Kelly stood, shaken, she ran back to the hall, adjusted herself like nothing happened.
She went to the bar, took a very strong alcoholic drink and gulped it.
"You're okay?" Clinton asked as he sat beside her.
"Get me a bottle of barley please" He said to the bar attendant.
"Yes," Kelly forced a smile.
"Mmm, where is Lydia, I haven't see her around and I heard you two were talking earlier"
"Lydia, I don't know," Kelly furrowed her brow.
"Yes, we were talking when I went to greet grandpa happy birthday, she was with him then, beside we didn't talk long, grandpa was the one asking us questions and we answered." Kelly said, her left hand was shaking, she put the hand under the table and put her purse on it to hide it from Clinton.
"Grandpa? What questions?"
"Ah nothing much, you know how that old man does, ha ha ha"Kelly laughed out loudly and gulped down her drink.
Clinton could sense her laughter wasn't genuine and he noticed she felt uneasy.
'What's going on?' He thought.
Back In the pool, Lydia had lost consciousness in the water and she was drowning.
A woman came outside to smoke, she lit a cigarette and sat on the bench, viewing the sky.
Then she heard some noise from the pool, she looked there to see a woman drowning.
"Oh my gosh!" She screamed, and dropped her cigarette on the floor.
Then she ran into the hall and shouted.
"Someone is dying!"
No one answered as they couldn't hear her due to the loud, booming music.
"Help!" She screamed again but the result was the same, no one paid attention.
She walked up to the DJ and removed the speaker plug from the socket.
Everywhere went silent, people looked into her direction angry.
"Someone is dying in the pool, a lady is drowning, help!"The lady screamed.
Immediately, everyone rushed out to the swimming pool.
Clinton was among those who ran out while Kelly stayed behind.
Clinton got there to see Lydia drowning.
"Shit!" He cursed.
He took off his jacket, and jumped into the pool to save Lydia, he swam towards Lydia but before he could reach her, another man who entered the pool with him got to her first.
"Omg! Is she okay?" People were murmuring.
Clinton came out of the pool embarrassed, he watched as the man performed CPR on her.
He looked at the man's face, he was no one but Rowan, the owner of A&B company - a rival company to the Benjamin's company.
Clinton's eyes were red, his voice was thick, annoyed, he watched with jealousy as Rowan wrapped his jacket around Lydia , performing CPR on her.
They were divorced but he still felt entitled to her. Kelly watched Clinton closely, She saw the regrets in his eyes, She looked at Lydia with disdain and left the scene feeling hurt that her plan failed.
