Chapitre 25: Who is Gabio?
"Wait, where are we going?" I'm sure it's not the way home. I'm not good at direction, but I'm sure it's a different road.
"Just calm down." he chuckled.
If I could pinch the driver, I would.
"Where exactly are we?"
"We're here," he responded enthusiastically and stopped his big bike and we got off.
The surroundings are beautiful, I feel like I'm back at my grandfather's place, it's very cozy and peaceful, quiet and relaxing to look at.
"Where are we?"
"That question has been asked over and over again for a while now."
I just rolled my eyes at him and murmured. "Well, if you had told me where we were going and where we were, maybe I wouldn't have said it again."
"Do you think it was only your fart that heard what you said?"
I raised an eyebrow at him, but before I could pinch him, he grabbed my hand and took me to a hut.
I saw a lady hanging laundry while a man had just come from the rice field.
"Good afternoon to you." Antonio greeted the two so politely that I was surprised by what I witnessed, and I could hardly blink because of what I saw.
Do you also have this side, besides being a troublemaker, Antonio?
"Come into our little home." They also politely invited us inside their hut.
The man removed his hat and hung it on the wall. Their house is simple. All of it was made of wood, but you won't feel any loneliness around.
He invited us to sit down, and he sat down in front of us. The lady had now made us something to eat, and I couldn't stop smiling at her before she left.
"I know you meant the CCTV tape here, right?" The man asked us without hesitation, while here I was, and knew nothing of what was happening.
Antonio just nodded, and soon the man stood up and seemed to have taken something from somewhere.
I glared at Antonio and raised an eyebrow in question. "What's happening," I asked him in a whisper.
"Just trust me. I can give you what you've been hoping for a long time, little by little Keasu," he replied in a whisper but with a very sweet smile on his lips that made me very confused.
I was going to say more, but the man came and sat in front of us again with a tape in his hand.
Maybe that's it. My heart is beating very fast, I'm feeling a mixture of joy, anger, and sadness right now. I can't understand my body now because it seems to be eager to get hold of the tape.
But before the Lord gave it to us, he said something. "I was impressed with your ability to find me, but it only meant one thing."
Because of my confusion and curiosity, I asked, "What do you mean?"
"Since you were able to find me, it's not far off that Gabio can do the same. It's not insignificant that he needs me more than you."
"Wait, could you please explain?" My hands are shaking now. I don't know, but I can feel the cold sweat flowing through my body.
I felt Antonio's hand placed in mine, so I looked at him.
Those looks, I don't know why, but every time I see those looks, my heart naturally calms down. He nodded at me and I understood what he wanted to convey.
"Unbeknownst to you, it was Gabio who ordered me to erase this CCTV record. I knew something was wrong because if it wasn't there, they wouldn't have ordered it to be erased. Even before I erased the original copy, I made sure I had my copy and after doing what they ordered me to, I left and brought my family here to our province. I don't know what could happen to me and my family if I stayed there, because I'm sure I'm involved in their shenanigans, so I'd rather keep my family away and safe."
Antonio took a deep breath while I was still processing what I knew.
"If it's okay with you, can we find out who this Gabio you're talking about is?" Antonio asked.
The man stood up and gave me the tape. Here I was staring at it as if it were a treasure.
"Gabio Enriquez, director of Adair University."
"He's the director of the university we're studying at?" I asked in shock, causing me to stand up from my seat.
It seems that the gentleman was also surprised by how I acted, so he also asked, "You don't know the director of your university?"
Even Antonio stood up and spoke. "No, for some unknown reason, the director of the university was not introduced to us. But I think Uncle Luis knows him. Now that we know who the people we are looking for are, I think it will be easier for our next steps."
I just held my breath. I wanted to speak but nothing seemed to come out of my mouth. I'm the one who wants to get justice, but I don't know any of this. I don't know much. I don't even know anything.
"But as far as I know, someone searched the CCTV record after I deleted it." The man continued.
"Who?" I asked eagerly.
He shook his head and grabbed his right chin. "I don't know, but it's a different person and I think it has something to do with what's going on."
"So, two people were involved in the incident. And both of them had no idea what was going on," Antonio added.
"Wait, does that mean they are both involved, but they are not allies?" I intervened.
"Let's simply put it that way."
Silence enveloped the three of us when suddenly the lady from earlier appeared and stood next to her husband.
"It's getting late, Sweethearts. You can rest here for a night, and we'll prepare a place for you to sleep."
"Ah, don't worry, Antonio can still drive home. Besides, we need to finish something, so we'll go. Thank you very much." I smiled goodbye as Antonio bowed before leaving.
We didn't realize it was already night. Time flies fast.
