Madison - "Maybe I should start fires more often. It seems like a pretty easy way to kill monsters."
Madison was currently walking back to Engracia after going into the forest for a short while. Her original intention was to complete her quest to defeat slimes, but the forest caught fire due to some unforeseen circumstances, and she had to flee before she could complete any of it.
Madison - "I hope there isn't a penalty for failing the quest; I don't want any more debt."
After some more walking, Madison was finally approaching the city's gate; everything seemed normal, at least that was until she noticed the sound of bells ringing. Upon hearing the bells, Madison picked up the pace and started running towards the city's entrance. Upon getting closer, she could see the distress on the guard's face. It was evident that the bell meant something terrible was happening, but what was it?
Madison - "What's happening?"
Guard - "The city's on high alert. Apparently, some dufus set the nearby forest on fire, and now a monster horde is on its way here."
Madison - "What type of horrible person would do such a thing? They should be punished! So can you let me into the city?"
Guard - "Can you show me your I.D.?"
Madison - "Here"
Madison reached into a pocket of the torn jacket and pulled out her I.D. card. She then handed it to him, after which he quickly looked at it and handed it back.
Guard - "Go quickly."
After reading through the gate, Madison started to run towards the adventurers guild. The bell continued to ring, and every time it did, the civilians became more panicked. The once peaceful streets were now filled with people running around in fear pushing and trampling others.
Jerimiah - "A monster horde is on its way! Stop panicking and head to the shelter!"
Madison (in thought) - What a dumbass! You can't just say stop panicking after giving them a reason to panic. That's like doing something offensive then proceeding to say 'no offense' like that will just solve the problem.
Luckily a path seemed to have opened in the crowd, so Madison headed through there and once again proceeded towards the adventurer's guild.
Upon arriving at and entering the guild building, it was apparent that the chaos from the town had spread here too. Everyone seemed to be in a hurry, but they seemed to hurry to prepare to fight, rather than hide or take shelter like most of the other townsfolk.
Receptionist - "We need someone to move these boxes to the northmost wall!"
The receptionists seemed to be directing the movement of supplies in preparation for the battle, and the adventurers with enough strength appeared to be the ones in charge of moving them. Madison approached a receptionist that seemed to be on a break and began asking questions.
Madison - "What's going on here?"
Receptionist #2 - "We're preparing for a monster horde."
Madison - "Why?"
Receptionist #2 - "If we don't, then the town may face destruction."
Madison - "Can I cash this in?"
She then proceeded to show the head of the rabbit that she had carried from the woods.
Receptionist #2 - "Does now really seem like the best time for this?"
Madison - "..."
Receptionist #2 - "You're an adventurer, right? Why don't you join the others and help fight? You'll be provided food beforehand and money after."
Madison took a moment to think about what she had said, then spoke back calmly.
Madison - "How do I join?"
Receptionist #2 - "Go tell her."
The receptionist then proceeded to point at one of the women who were currently directing the other adventurers. After noticing where the woman was pointing, Madison went over there and quickly spoke to the other receptionist to not waste her time.
Madison - "I would like to help"
Receptionist - "Can you fight?"
Madison - *nods*
Receptionist - "Go to the northmost wall."
Madison - "Ok, um... where's north?"
The receptionist was a bit taken back but knew she couldn't afford to waste any more time and pointed at an adventurer tasked with moving bows to the northern wall.
Receptionist - "Follow him."
Madison - "Alright. Got it."
