The room fell into an awkward silence after Zaya's confession. My mind was still trying to wrap around the fact that my friend, Zaya, was a vampire.
Zaya, the same person who had helped me through my breakup with Carmen, the same Zaya who insisted on watching cheesy rom-coms when I was feeling down, was a vampire.
And now, she was standing there looking guilty and a little sheepish, as if she had just admitted to eating the last slice of pizza instead of revealing her undead nature.
I opened my mouth, then closed it. What was I even supposed to say?
"I... I think I need to sit down," I muttered, lowering myself into the nearest chair. Lydia stood there, arms crossed, watching the whole scene with an amused smirk.
"Elena, it's not that big a deal," Lydia said with a shrug. "Zaya can fight too, which means she can help. It's not like we're bringing a human into this."
