“I ‘romise,” Elena said, leaving off the letter p.

“What did Daddy say about lazy speech?” Armand stated in a stern voice.

“I’m sorry, Daddy.” Elena hung her head over her plate, the epitome of correctness.

Sean totally ruined the effect by giggling, followed by Ian, and then Colin, who couldn’t keep a straight face.

“She’s going to earn as many Oscars as Katherine Hepburn.” Colin observed as Marc served Elena, then Miss Beaumont.

“Who’s Katherine Hepburn?” Elena asked her mouth full of eggs.

“Don’t talk with your mouth full, young lady.” Sean’s voice was firm.

“Yes, Princess, that bothers Daddy.” Ian gave Colin a wink.

Elena swallowed hard and took a drink of her juice. “I swallowed. Can someone tell me who Katherine Hepburn is?”

“An actress who won four Oscars for Best Actress,” Colin explained.

“I don’t know if I want to be an actress. I want to be a doctor, like Dr. Artis.” Elena cocked her head.
