Onyx felt quite underwhelmed by her fight with the Goblin Lord, since she was able to beat it so easily, but when she looked at the corpse of the dead beast, she noticed that its sword was glowing with a soft blue light. As she approached, she received a system notification. It read [Goblin Cleaver]. Onyx felt very excited, as she realized she had found one of the rare "Monster drops". "It will be a great replacement for my knife", she thought, looking at her old, beat up knife. She used her Analyze skill, and a window popped up.
[Goblin Cleaver - LVL 1]
[Special trait : levels up with the user]
[Additional effect : the sword is enchanted to cleave through goblin armor and weapons with ease, making it a deadly weapon against even the most heavily armored goblin soldiers. + 300 %]
"Wow...", she whispered. "As expected of a monster drop, it's really strong, it will be a good substitute for my knife.", she said. This would undoubtedly be very useful when battling against goblins in the dungeon, since its damage was amplified by 300 %. Onyx was also interested in the [levels up with user] additional trait, since it meant the weapon would get more and more powerful with time. She discarded her old weapon and imbued her new blade with shadow aura immediately. She also decided to use all of her skill points on the [Shadow Concealment] skill, since she wanted to be able to sneak up to goblin mages too in the future.
She went back to the Lost Library, and met up with Muck to show him her brand new weapon with pride. When she arrived, she found muck reading a book. "Are you reading the Tome of Eternity ?", she questioned. Muck looked up, seeming surprised that she came back so soon. "Have you finished the Goblin Lord subjugation already ? Muck thought it would take you a couple of weeks at least", the goblin said while closing the book.
The cover of the Tome of Eternity was a sight to behold, made of a dark, shimmering material that caught the light in an eerie way, almost as if it was alive. The texture of the cover was slightly rough to the touch, like that of a reptile's skin. At the center of the cover was a symbol, the focal point of the design. It was a circular symbol, made up of intricate lines and curves, and it glowed with a bright golden light that was almost blinding. The symbol seemed to radiate power and energy.
The book was a mystery to Onyx and Muck. Onyx had found it while walking around the library, and it was as if she had been attracted to its ominous energy, like a butterfly to a flame. The contents of the tome were said to contain the secrets of immortality, with detailed instructions on how to achieve everlasting life, but the text was cryptic and difficult to understand, and to the untrained reader, it was just a bunch of gibberish. However, Onyx was sure that someday the two of them would find out the truth about the book, and maybe even attain immortality.
But, right now it was impossible. Onyx was simply a weak newbie adventurer that was barely better than a normal citizen, and Muck was a mage who couldn't even craft a mana potion. The two companions still had a long way to go before they could even dream of attaining immortality.
Suddenly, Onyx's daydreaming was cut short by a bone-chilling scream. She immediately recognized the scream that resounded from the depths of the dungeon as being that of a woman - a human.
