In the newspapers during the next week, Lysandra began to see stories of Memory Theft come up, along with the prosecution of thousands of Memory Recoders who had actually turned out to be Thieves. She found the papers spread out along the dining room table in the morning and guessed that one of her father's servants had been reading them. She always read them too, searching for names of Memory Recoders she knew. On the morning that she found Mason Viatrix, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Mornings were never the same at the Ferry estate anymore; Ismene and Vasu set out various plates of food in the dining room when they awoke, but, at least while Lysandra ate, they were not to be found. Nereus occasionally showed his face, but every time he spoke to Lysandra, his face flushed and he could barely form a coherent sentence. He knew that Lysandra knew about his feelings.
