The sun had just risen basking with its soothing and warm light the soul toad sect that extended beyond the eye could see.
Staring from the window Liang Lu sighed every morning the sun had always risen without exception although many ignored it as they took it for granted. For Liang Lu, it was a constant reminder of how weak he was and how things can die if they don't have the strength to fight back.
Liang Lu knew the sun didn't have long to live in about 20 to 30 years when the venerables revived even such an ancient thing that had existed for millions of years met its end at the hands of Spectral Soul.
Liang Lu spent about a minute observing the sunrise before getting to the urgent topic of gathering resources.
Liang Lu opened his bag containing 4 primeval stones, 2 gourds with water, a big book with a complete rank 5 wisdom path inheritance, his outer disciple token, and 2 wisdom path gu worms.
'According to what the instructors said the members who just joined get many benefits including a free rank 1 gu worm and a weekly allowance of 5 primeval stones that will be given for a full year even if they don't complete sect missions as they complete more sect missions and show their talent that allowance will increase if they pass the several examinations they will get more resources and might even be chosen as an immortal seed.' Liang Lu thought his current state was optimistic.
Liang Lu knew he was broke although he didn't plan on using primeval stones as he feared heaven's will would invade his mind he needed them to get resources as gu cultivation was mainly about resources.
Ignoring the advantages of being a disciple of the soul toad sect Liang Lu planned to get a liquor worm by selling self harm gu as its food was about to run out and he couldn't get the food as it ate the fresh or dried flesh of humans that had killed themselves just the fact that he had possession of dried human flesh could put him in an awkward position as he was part of a righteous sect.
As for hunger instinct gu Liang Lu planned to keep it for the moment as it was easy to feed its food was thoughts of hunger Liang Lu had easily kept him alive using his own hunger thoughts and after walking around yesterday hunger instinct gu had feasted till it was full.
While Liang Lu was planning he heard a male voice. "Those gu worms you have there are quite interesting."
"Who is there?" Liang Lu gazed at his surroundings being on high alert but in his small room with only a bed, there was no one.
"Youngster, you don't have to be on high alert let me present myself." a small will about the size of 2 hands who looked exactly like the middle-aged Lin Hao appeared in front of Liang Lu.
"I'm Lin Hao, a rank 7 Gu Immortal, the first supreme elder of the soul toad sect and its founder." Lin Hao's will spoke plainly as if its identity wasn't a big deal.
"Lin Hao?" Liang Lu cautiously asked, remembering the painting he had seen the other day if the will spoke the truth then Lin Hao was at least 500 years old.
But Liang Lu was still wary as he knew a will could lie, carry and use immortal essence, and even use gu worms but he also knew it didn't want to harm him for the moment if it wanted Liang Lu knew he had no way to resist as he hadn't even refined a gu worm and his bow had been stashed away by the guards as it simply caused everyone to be on high alert.
"Being cautious is a good trait but as I said I don't plan on harming you." Lin Hao's will praised him before continuing.
"I don't like beating around the bush so I will be direct. You have caught my attention and I want to take you as my inheritor. You just have to accept me as your master and prove your worth. If you do, I will nurture you with my full strength."
"Is it that simple?" Liang Lu couldn't believe what he was hearing; it was simply too good to be true having a gu immortal nurturing a mortal out of nowhere was simply too absurd there was sure to be a catch but Liang Lu still planned to accept.
If this Gu Immortal got offended or found him bothersome it could simply kill him right now and the Gu Immortal would face minor to no punishment as a sect simply wouldn't let go of a gu immortal for a dead gu master.
Although Liang Lu was an extreme physique it would be the same as the value of a gu immortal was millions of times that of a gu master.
It was just like gu masters who could kill mortals as they pleased facing little to no punishment if the mortal had no background unless they courted death and killed someone with a great background like Yi Fang who until recently was a mortal.
As if the will knew the thoughts of Liang Lu it spoke again "I know it sounds too good to be true I too would have doubts but only time and benefits will show my true intentions. Here."
Lin Hao's will casually waved his hand. A small wooden box with a colorful and cheerful design that contrasted with his cold and aloof demeanor flew out of nowhere and softly landed on the small and simple bed of the dormitory.
The small box opened from the small hole of about 4 fingers, a sight that defied common sense but Liang Lu had experienced before occurred a big bag containing a hundred primeval stones came out along with 2 gu worms a cute and chubby liquor worm shaped like a silkworm and a different gu worm that Liang Lu couldn't recognize it had the size and appearance of a cute owl it had 2 big round eyes, a grumpy face, and a chubby and fluffy body, but what caught his attention were its feathers that glowed with a myriad of colors that constantly changed smoothly.
Before Liang Lu could speak Lin Hao's will spoke first.
"These are my gifts many more will come if you become my inheritor. I will give you until the end of the day to decide if you refuse I will leave and your chance will be gone forever. But as a token of goodwill, I will help you refine one of the 2 gu worms." Lin Hao's will proceeded to give information about the gu worms while skipping some of it.
Lin Hao planned to let Liang Lu experience the sweetness of resources his gifts, although valuable was also a test the gu worm that looked like an owl was a rank 5 steed type gu worm that originated from the immemorial antiquity era; currently, they were extinct in the world.
The gu worm was called wisdom brain owl. It was a wisdom path gu worm and had battle strength that rivaled rank 5 gu masters but it had a specific food it only ate brains.
The wisdom brain owls ranged from rank 1 to 5 as their rank increased so did the amount they ate the wisdom brain owl Lin Hao's will gave to Liang Lu was at rank 5 although the wisdom brain owls had a passive and reclusive nature they became grumpy and aggressive when they were hungry it had to eat at least 300 kilos of brains every day just to calm its hunger if it didn't eat until it was full it would be hard to control and could go feral it needed at least 400 kilos to be full.
With the wisdom brain owl, Lin Hao wanted to see how far ahead could Liang Lu think for that reason he also promised to help him refine one of the gu worms.
A liquor worm was valuable and could aid Liang Lu's cultivation until the rank 1 peak stage but couldn't compare to a rank 5 gu that would give him a similar strength to a rank 5 gu master not to mention a precious resource that was exclusive to the wisdom brain owl. Sagely glowing feces if someone or something ate it they would experience a world-opening experience their mind would work at lightning speed and in rare cases they could even experience an epiphany but this resource was almost impossible to store as it quickly lost its effect in just 10 seconds after it was out of the wisdom brain owl but it could still be used as a refinement material of the wisdom path.
As for how the effects of the sagely glowing feces were discovered even the one who found the last remaining specimens and nurtured them in his grotto heaven Old Loveless Xie had no idea.
But Liang Lu was currently a rank 1 gu master who had just joined the sect even with his allowance of 5 primeval stones each week it would be nothing in front of the food expenses of the owl that almost reached a hundred primeval stones every day.
Not to mention that if Liang Lu chose to refine the wisdom brain owl it would become his vital gu and if it died of hunger Liang Lu could also die.
Even if Liang Lu managed to feed the wisdom brain owl it would gather the jealousy of even the elders as many of them didn't have a single rank 5 gu worm yet a rank 1 disciple that had just joined had a rank 5 mount type gu worm that on top of that was near extinct and was from the rare wisdom path. They were sure to try and snatch it from him or even buy all the brains in the market to have leverage on Liang Lu.
"Have you made your decision?" Lin Hao's will spoke after waiting for 3 minutes in which Liang Lu stood in the same place pondering.
"Please help me refine the liquor worm." Liang Lu finally spoke after thinking about it.
"Why is that? Lin Hao's will curiously asked wanting to know the thinking process of Liang Lu.
"Well…" Liang Lu hesitated for a moment not wanting to offend it but soon spoke as he knew that if he didn't speak the will could become impatient and kill him for a petty reason. Maybe the will wasn't like that but Liang Lu didn't want to take that risk.
"The wisdom brain owl although valuable is too much for me to handle I would attract unwanted attention and I would no longer be a gu master as the gu worm would be in control not me."
"Why is that?" Lin Hao's will was satisfied with his answer but wanted more details.
"I would need to sacrifice everything I have to feed it my time, effort, and resources will all go to the gu worm I would need to think by always taking into consideration the gu worm if I don't meet its feeding requirements it can escape my control and go on a rampage the elders and sect leader will stop it and might even kill it as it is still my vital gu I might also die along with it. On the other hand, there is the liquor worm its feeding requirements aren't as restrictive I can easily feed it without going into bankruptcy and there are many refinement routes I can take with it."
Lin Hao's will was fully satisfied with Liang Lu's answer "If you become my inheritor not only will you have both gu worms you will grow enough to see that these great treasures that now seem like the best things in the world will be nothing more than common resources that can't even compare to the great things a gu immortal can possess now I shall ask again do you want to be my inheritor spread your wings and see the world from the perspective of gu immortals?"
Liang Lu remained silent he really wanted to be nurtured by a gu immortal but he was cautious he knew there was no such thing as a free meal in the gu worm. But if he refused this opportunity it would be more suspicious as he would have no reason to refuse unless he had something to hide.
"First supreme elder Lin Hao it is not that I don't want to be your inheritor but this kindness… if I were to accept it I will be indebted for the rest of my life I won't be able to sleep at night thinking how I could ever pay back this enormous kindness you have shown to me." Liang Lu cupped his fists putting on an act part lie and part truth as an honorable youngster who paid back his debts.
Liang Lu planned to use that excuse to try and enter a blessed land to fully use the time flow advantage and try to reach rank 6 in 3 years there were risks in this but if he didn't take them the gu world would follow the events of the novel Fang Yuan will destroy 88 true yang building informing Spectral Soul to create the sovereign immortal fetus gu ahead of time to give it to Red Lotus inheritor that would become a complete otherworldly demon that would try to destroy fate.
'Liang Lu's expression is too difficult to read I wonder what is going through the mind of an extreme physique a shame the main body didn't allow me to even read his thoughts. Hmm… I need to replenish myself.' Lin Hao's will quickly thought after so much thinking from beginning to end it had shrunk by half.
After quickly replenishing itself Lin Hao's will spoke again "If you want to repay my kindness then cultivate as much as you can during the academic year in which you aren't pressured to take sect missions. Reaching rank 2 shouldn't be difficult as a hard-working A-grade talent can easily reach it in less than a year and an extreme physique dominates A-grade talents."
Lin Hao's will activated the small wooden box from it another 2 gu worms came out. The will proceeded to explain what the gu worms were.
The first gu worm was from the wisdom path. Greedy Elder Gu a small yellow ball that glowed with an intense yellow light with the image of an elderly man who had a crazed and greedy expression as he hugged a treasure chest afraid that someone might take his precious. It was a rank 5 storage type gu worm; it was currently full and had an enormous storage it was easy to feed as it fed on thoughts of greed.
The second gu worm was from the soul path it was called Lone Broken Soul Gu it had the shape of a butterfly but the wings had wailing faces.
It had effects of the wisdom path; it was an offensive type gu worm that attacked the soul and mind of the target. If used along with other soul path gu worms it would create the killer move Lone Broken Soul.
Lone Broken Soul is the best method to refine the soul for gu masters in the inheritance of Old Loveless Xie the creator loved the name Lone Broken Soul so much that he also named the immortal version and offensive immortal and mortal versions the same unfortunately Lin Hao lost the core Lone Broken Soul Immortal Gu on his last duel of course he forgot to mention the whole part.
After explaining the use of the gu worms and some of their background Lin Hao's will said "You are now my inheritor, I will guide you accordingly from now on. I will keep Lone Broken Soul Gu as it uses a great amount of rank 3 primeval essence along with greedy elder gu. I will give you the former when you reach rank 3 and the latter when you reach a soul foundation of a thousand man soul but I will give you some of the contents when you make sufficient achievements and I will supply you with a fixed amount of souls every week if you want more you need to figure out how to get them. Don't worry you won't have to find a way to refine your soul. I will use Lone Broken Soul Gu when you need to refine your soul."
Lin Hao's will gave its conditions Lin Hao wanted to fully nurture Liang Lu but if he were to give everything to Liang Lu without having to move a finger Lin Hao knew Liang Lu would become lazy and unmotivated. Lin Hao knew that from experience he had seen many gu immortals pamper their children, making them sheltered and leaving them exposed to countless schemes.
'These conditions are already good enough for my circumstances.' Liang Lu knew he couldn't negotiate as he had no leverage with Lin Hao's will after supposedly hesitating for a few moments Liang Lu seemed to have swallowed his pride and accepted.
"I swear I will pay you back for this favor. I will cultivate hard and will follow my master's advice." Liang Lu cupped his fists speaking with a determined tone.
"Good now to business." Lin Hao's will pointed at the wisdom brain owl "I have enough food to feed it for 3 years. I want you to make it your vital gu then refine the liquor worm and start nurturing your aperture until mid-day after that you will have the rest as free time."
"..."
Liang Lu remained quiet. If Lin Hao's will decided to ditch him wouldn't he have to carry the huge burden he just mentioned earlier?
"Didn't you say you will follow your master's advice?" Lin Hao's will remarked it had a reason as to why it wanted Wisdom Brain Owl to be Liang Lu's vital gu as it was the core material in the immortal gu recipe to refine Devour Brain Immortal Gu. Lin Hao wanted to recover the wisdom path immortal gu that was destroyed when his son died extreme physiques usually had excess qi that allowed them to refine one or more immortal gu after they ascended to rank 6 Lin Hao wanted to fully utilize that aspect.
After a few moments, Liang Lu started refining Wisdom Brain Owl. It wasn't hard at all; it was more like a transfer of ownership as Lin Hao's will fully cooperate with him.
Soon Liang Lu felt he had full control over the owl he inwardly ordered the wisdom brain owl to spread its wings and it did but that single basic action made him feel as if his mind got tired out of nowhere.
"What? My mind got tired suddenly. Is this supposed to happen?" Liang Lu asked.
"Oh yes I forgot to mention it but mount-type gu worms usually have a mind of their own they are similar to enslaved beasts only that they can't have wild gu worms residing on their bodies as they are gu worms themselves but they are stronger than beasts and can also be stored inside the aperture although that isn't advised as they can move on their own unless the gu master has a strong soul foundation or a method to fully control them." Lin Hao's will plainly replied as if it wasn't a problem.
"Then didn't I just half crippled myself?" Liang Lu asked hiding his worries as he didn't fully trust that Lin Hao's will won't retaliate for being insulted.
"You don't have to worry about that, tell me can you feel any of its rank 5 aura?" Lin Hao's will asked
"No."
"The only thing that makes it stand out is its colorful glowing feathers, isn't it? And if you could make it spread its wings isn't it possible to order it to stop glowing?"
"Is it that simple?" Liang Lu did as Lin Hao's will suggested and sure enough, the owl stopped glowing and its feathers turned into those of a regular owl.
"Wisdom Brain Owls are truly special gu worms they can not only change the color of their feathers but they can attack and distract the mind of living beings with their eyebrows and finish them off with their sharp beak and claws they are also stronger than they look if you can find a way to stand on it you can use it to fly high in the sky." Lin Hao's will praised the Wisdom Brain Owls before saying.
"Every day they will excrete a precious resource that aids the cultivation of wisdom path gu masters I had it in a state of hibernation so at any moment now nature should make its call."
"What?"
"Oh, it looks like it's starting." Lin Hao's will pointed at the wisdom brain owl. "You need to hurry up otherwise the resource will be wasted I recommend you open your mouth below its butt."
"Excuse me I must do what?" Before Lin Hao's will could explain further a pungent smell similar to rotting bowels permeated the small dormitory.
The wisdom brain owl had stood on the edge of the small bed its face facing Liang Lu while its butt faced the bed below its feet big chunks of turd fell.
Those chunks of turd were as hard as a rock they were smooth and glowed with a myriad of colors similar to the beautiful glow its feathers had the turds looked like jewels of incalculable value that came straight from heaven but the smell was demonic when Liang Lu tried to approach to try and follow Lin Hao's will instructions his knees became as weak as paper they started trembling as he almost fell on his knees the terrible smell the glowing turds released was disgusting like the rotting bowels of a corpse that had 7 days of decay it almost made Liang Lu puke.
"Time is running quickly grab at least a small Sagely Glowing Feces and shove it down your throat."
'This… oh shit this is so… shit. Oh, shit would Fang Yuan have skipped this kind of benefit?' Liang Lu inwardly asked in the novel there was almost nothing similar to what he needed to do but after reading the novel so many times Liang Lu knew that the answer was obvious.
"Do this or die do this or die do this…" Liang Lu encouraged himself he pinched his nose grabbed a glowing turd of the owl and swallowed although the smell was disgusting and invaded his insides the turd was tasteless being like a jewel but Liang Lu still had to resist the urge to puke caused by the smell just as Liang Lu was celebrating Lin Hao's interrupted him.
"That sagely glowing feces was 11 seconds old had you swallowed it just a second earlier you would have experienced the world opening experienced thankfully for you the owl still hadn't finished."
Lin Hao's will pointed at the wisdom brain owl "It has excreted more than other days but it should be almost over I recommend you put your mouth just below its butt."
Hearing that he had to experience the same hellish experience again Liang Lu had to contain himself so as to not scream in anger.
