Sara scowled as she scrolled through her statistics on her Televiz. She had hoped that her new video would garner SOME attention. Instead, it seemed that she had lost followers. Two to be exact. It was a tutorial, or a parody of one, about how to survive in the day to day life of growing up in a Labor Force household. She'd seen LaborforceBexx post a video about it that garnered almost ten thousand views and thought she'd give it a try.
It wasn't plagiarism necessarily, but using someone else's idea for a video in your own video was frowned upon usually. But she thought that if she made one better than the original video, maybe she could garner some more viewers. There were only three comments on the video. One was spam, trying to get some of the tens of followers Sara had on the site to come to their page, another was from a fan saying "Good vid." And the last…was a hate comment.
"It's sad that ppl like u try to siphon the fame off of actual creators. This is why no one likes ur video's you stoopid bish. Seriously tho lolololololololol U got like 20 views after stealing? Was it worth it dum asss? Y dont u just delete ur account and join the labor force now? Its distgusting 2 c ppl like you on this site, ur the cancer. End it all bish."
Sara continued to scowl at the comment. The site would delete any comments with "hate" speech in them, so the person had done what most did when trying to confront someone online. Words like kill, dumb, ass, bitch and stupid would cause the system to flag the comment and then delete it while giving the person's account a warning, unless they had already had three warnings, then they would have their account suspended. If they'd already had their account suspended multiple times, then the account would be permanently deleted. Which, in this day and age, was basically a death sentence. If you got your account deleted permanently, that would basically guarantee you'd become nothing more than slave labor in the future.
Sara could flag the comment and, if enough people flagged it, it would go under manual review and then the account would get a mark against it. But…if she was being honest, comments like these were her favorite.
She'd needed to blow off some steam as it was, and this was just a perfect opportunity.
If she were to say that the comment didn't dig at her flimsy teenage self esteem, she'd be lying. But, that was only her initial reaction. After reading, then re-reading the comment over and over again, she found herself sneering down at the hateful words on her phone screen.
She brushed the wisps of hair that had fallen out of her messy bun atop her head and began her counter attack.
"Maybe if you put more effort into your own channel, you'd have more than a few thousand followers, assss. You think you know good content? You wouldn't know it if your momma looked up from sucking your dik long enough to spit it on your face. Speaking of the Labor Force, I see that you're nearing twnty soon…is someone projecting their fears? Oh, hon, don't worry. I still have four years before I enter the force and you have a few weeks, I'm sure in those few weeks you can make up the THREE THOUSAND followers you need to reach the minimum requirement. If not, I'll try to remember you once I get on Famer. In fact, I'll save this comment and make sure to & you in my first post. *-*"
Sara smiled down at her response and re-read it a few times before switching to view some of her "respected" uploaders. Respected uploaders were creators that she regularly watched. She followed the twenty free follows she was allowed on the site, but she had around five respected uploaders.
This was the first site to incorporate the "Respected" status for its creators. It limited the amount of follows one could have for free, then used an algorithm to differentiate between people that were only followed and those that were regularly watched. If someone followed someone, but only watched a few videos every now and then, they wouldn't have that person's "respected" flag. This allowed those that had inflated follower numbers, but people rarely watched and those that everyone watched, but had a smaller following to be differentiated from. For instance, if a celebrity came to the site and brought a massive following, but didn't upload on the site much and was only trying to gather higher numbers, they would still be able to have those numbers, but they would mean a bit less because they probably wouldn't have the respected flag of most of their viewers.
There were two lists on the site, one was the highest following list and the highest regards list. The number one on the highest following wasn't even on the respected list at all, but the number one on the highest regards list was the fifth on the highest following list. Of course, this was only on this site, where Tootyfuntime (the highest on the respected list) reigned pretty much supreme. On other sites, Tooty had a respectable following, but it was nothing compared to Georgie Franks, the number one on the following list. Georgie was one of the few SSS ranked celebrities, while Tooty was only considered an A rank. Tooties fame was one that was made and maintained on Televiz.
Since Televiz came out with the respected status on its site, other sites had followed suit, though the titles were called something a little different everywhere.
The ranking system, however, was standard throughout. The ranks went from SSS all the way to G, which was made up of Labor Force and people just starting to try to gather fame. Parents would usually start their children's internet fame careers when they were born, trying to give them as much of a head start as possible to hopefully break out of the Labor Force. One could break out of the Labor force once they reached D rank, though over half of the people in that rank would eventually fall back down the ranks and still end up in the Labor Force.
Sara was an F rank. G ranks were ones that had tens of followers, while Sara had just reached a hundred a few days ago…
Wait, after she lost those two followers, she had fallen back down to G rank.
Sara sighed and tossed her phone onto her bed. She knew that climbing up the ranks was almost impossible for her, but she couldn't stand the thought of living her life like her parents.
This work is more for fun, so please let me know what you think about it! I usually just write this story when I am having trouble with another one....
