Reaching the Moon Crest Pack, I went directly to my room to take a shower and go to bed.

My mind was in a mess. I couldn't help but keep thinking of Hayden’s words. “Please reject him for me,” those words kept playing in my head. The way he said it softly and gently as if he was begging me. But why? Why did he want me to reject Nate for him?

And that complicated expression on his face... Sad, dejected, sorrowful, even... hurt.

I kept imagining those expressions on his handsome face. It made me feel confused, restless, and... hopeful.

It was the first time he showed me that myriad of emotions. Was he hurt because he thought I had another mate?

Hayden... I called out his name softly unconsciously in my mind. Why did you show me a painful expression? Did you know how it would affect me? Did you finally fall in love with me?

I turned around on my bed, unable to even close my eyes. His words and expression kept haunting me.
