Chapitre 7: Chapter 7: Magic Tower

Chapter 7

---

As the massive doors of the Magic Tower creaked open, Aida was greeted by the sight of an interior that seemed to pulse with an almost tangible magical energy.

It was a feeling he got, but whether it was real or just a feeling, he couldn't compute as he continued to take in the sights in front of him.

It was called the Magic Tower but the sight in front of Aida made him wonder if this so-called tower was actually a front to hide the massive space Within.

Archmage Lorian gestured for Aida and Alina to follow him. "Welcome to the Magic Tower. This is where you will embark on your journey to mastering magic. The Tower is not merely a place of study; it is a living entity in its own right, constantly shifting and adapting to the needs of its occupants."

Aida looked around with wide eyes, taking in the grandeur and the ethereal quality of the space. The interior was expansive, with high ceilings supported by columns that seemed to stretch infinitely.

Between the columns, floating platforms and staircases spiraled upward, defying conventional architectural norms. The entire structure seemed to defy the laws of physics in a manner that was both bewildering and mesmerizing.

Lorian led them down a long corridor, its walls lined with doors that had translucent windows, offering glimpses into various rooms. "This corridor houses the dormitories for the students. Each room is enchanted to provide comfort and privacy, while also serving as a place for personal study and rest. You will find your room among these."

They stopped in front of a door that bore Aida's name. Lorian waved his hand, and the door gently swung open, revealing a well-furnished space. The room was modest but elegant, featuring a large bed with soft linens, a desk cluttered with various magical implements, and a bookshelf filled with tomes of magical knowledge.

A small window provided a panoramic view of the lush grounds surrounding the tower.

"Here is your dorm room," Lorian said. "It's equipped with everything you need for your studies and personal comfort. If you have any specific requests or needs, do not hesitate to let me know."

Aida nodded appreciatively. "Thank you, Archmage. This is incredible."

Lorian smiled and led them out of the dormitory corridor. "Let me show you the main areas of the Tower where your studies will take place."

They proceeded to another grand hall within the tower, its walls lined with enormous, ancient books and scrolls. Enchanted orbs floated above, providing illumination and shifting colors depending on the time of day. The hall was filled with tables and chairs, where students worked diligently on their studies and practical exercises.

"This is the Great Hall," Lorian explained. "Here, students engage in collaborative studies and practical exercises. The Hall is also used for lectures and demonstrations. The ambient magic within this space aids in focusing and amplifying magical energies, making it ideal for both learning and practicing."

Next, Lorian guided them to a series of classrooms, each equipped with runic symbols and magical devices. "These are the classrooms where theoretical knowledge is taught to students willing to learn. Each room is designed for specific types of magic and levels of complexity. You will have classes here on various magical disciplines, from elemental manipulation to advanced spellcraft."

Aida's curiosity was piqued. "What about the hierarchy of magical ranks here in the Tower? How does it work?"

Lorian's expression grew contemplative. "The magical ranking system is crucial to understanding your journey here. I will outline the ranks for you."

He began, "At the lowest tier, we have the Novice or Apprentice rank. This is where all students begin. At this stage, they are introduced to the fundamental principles of magic, including basic spellcasting and elemental manipulation. The focus is on building a strong foundation in magical theory and practice."

Aida nodded, absorbing the information. "And what comes next?"

"Once a Novice demonstrates proficiency in basic magical practices, they advance to the Adept rank. Adepts have a deeper understanding of magical principles and can perform more complex spells. They are expected to develop their personal magical style and begin specializing in a particular area of magic."

Lorian continued, "The next rank is Mage or Magician. Mages are considered skilled practitioners of magic, capable of executing advanced spells and understanding intricate magical constructs. At this stage, students are often involved in more specialized research and practical applications of their magic."

Aida listened intently, clearly interested in the progression. "And what about the ranks above Mage?"

"Sorcerer or Sorceress is the rank following Mage. Sorcerers possess significant magical power and knowledge. They can perform high-level spells and have a thorough understanding of complex magical theories. This rank is often associated with considerable expertise and influence in the magical community."

Aida's eyes widened with excitement. "And what comes after Sorcerer?"

Lorian's expression grew a bit mysterious. "The ranks above Sorcerer include Archmage and Grand Magus. Archmages are among the most powerful and knowledgeable magicians. They possess profound understanding and mastery of magic, capable of manipulating magical forces on a grand scale. Grand Magi, however, represents the pinnacle of magical ability and knowledge, wielding power that can affect the very fabric of reality."

Aida's curiosity was clearly piqued. "Is there anything beyond the Grand Magus rank?"

Lorian's gaze became inscrutable. "The nature of magic is complex and ever-evolving. The knowledge of what lies beyond the Grand Magus level is something that becomes clear only as one progresses through their journey. For now, focus on your studies and mastering the current ranks. The path will reveal itself to you in due time."

Aida absorbed Lorian's words, feeling both the weight and excitement of the path ahead. "Understood. I will do my best."

Lorian nodded approvingly. "Very well. Let us proceed with the orientation. I'll show you to the facilities you'll need, and we can discuss your initial studies and objectives."

As Aida followed Archmage Lorian through the grand halls of the Magic Tower, his eyes roamed in wonder at the myriad of magical artifacts, enchanted scrolls, and shimmering crystals that adorned the walls.

"This place is incredible," Aida remarked, his voice tinged with awe. "I've never seen anything like it."

Lorian smiled, his gaze softening with a hint of pride. "The Magic Tower is a place where magic is both studied and revered. Each corridor, each room, is designed to enhance learning and mastery of the arcane arts."

As they walked past a series of classroom doors and libraries, Aida's curiosity got the better of him. "Archmage Lorian, I've always been fascinated by elemental magic. I understand that it's a significant part of magical practice here. Could you explain how it works? Are there specific requirements or limitations?"

Lorian's eyes twinkled with amusement and knowledge. "Elemental magic is indeed a fundamental aspect of many magical disciplines. It involves harnessing and manipulating the primal forces of nature—Earth, Air, Fire, and Water."

Aida nodded thoughtfully. "So, is it something everyone can learn, or is it more about an inherent ability?"

"Both," Lorian replied, his tone steady. "Some individuals are born with an innate connection to specific elements. This natural affinity allows them to wield certain elemental powers with greater ease and efficiency. For example, a person with a natural affinity for fire might find it easier to master fire-related spells and techniques."

Aida's eyes widened in interest. "So, if someone isn't born with an inherent connection, can they still learn elemental magic?"

"Absolutely," Lorian confirmed. "While innate talent can certainly give someone a head start, elemental magic can be learned and mastered through rigorous training and practice. Even if you don't have an inherent connection to a particular element, you can still study and develop the skills needed to wield that element effectively."

Aida's brow furrowed slightly. "What does this training involve? Are there specific methods to connect with an element or to control it?"

Lorian nodded. "Training involves several aspects. First, there's a deep understanding of the elemental principles—theory and practice. You'll learn about the nature of each element, how it interacts with the world, and how to channel its power. Practical exercises help you build control and precision. Over time, you'll develop the ability to summon and manipulate the elements with greater skill."

Aida absorbed this information with keen interest. "And what if someone wants to specialize in more than one element? Is that possible?"

"Indeed," Lorian said, his smile widening. "Many advanced practitioners are capable of mastering, combining and evolving multiple elements. However, this requires a significant amount of time and effort, as each element has its own unique set of challenges and nuances. It's often more effective to specialize initially and then expand one's skills over time."

Aida nodded with an excited smile. This just meant that he could still be the motherfucking Avatar if he wanted. Master of All Four Elements and stuff. Something still bothered him though. Was the magical energy being used from the Magician themselves or from the World?

Seeing his excitement, Lorian's gaze grew thoughtful. "Remember, the journey to mastering elemental magic is as much about self-discovery as it is about technical skill. As you progress, you'll find that your personal connection to the elements will deepen, revealing new facets of your own abilities."

Aida's eyes sparkled with determination. "I understand. No two people's understanding can be the same no matter how similar they may appear."

"Good." Lorian nodded contently.

As they continued through the tower, Aida's mind was filled with anticipation. The grandeur of the Magic Tower and the depth of knowledge it promised were awe-inspiring. He felt a renewed sense of purpose, eager to embark on the journey that lay before him.
