Chapitre 24: The fool

Chris(Azure) POV, 30 minutes later...

'Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! why did I have to act so stupid!' I mentally facepalm as I run away from the Coven guards chasing behind me while remembering how dramatic I was being before I ran away only to lose all that bluster when failing to fight the Coven guards. "Azure! Get back here and face your just punishment!" I hear a livid Aunt Lilith scream.

'Did I really think I could win with my shallow experience with beast taming and bard magic? Sure, I have a lot of theoretical knowledge since I read through a bunch of spells in individual magic books but I don't have that much practice with the-!' Before I could continue my panicked rant in my head I felt a bug nip at me again.

"Agh!" 'And Who knew that one of the Emperor's coven guards would have better control of beast taming magic! Sure they weren't portrayed in the best light but how could I know that they were this strong in the show? And let's not even talk about my Bard magic spell!...'

Flashback, 20 minutes ago...

"There he is!" I heard a Coven guard call out as I stopped near the group while I started to draw the circle for the whistling spell I used in the detention pit once behind my back. "Azure, have you come here to surrender? If so I can guarantee that your punishment won't be too harsh." Aunt Lilith said as I continued to draw the circle for the spell.

"What kind of punishment will I receive then? This seems like overkill for one kid, doesn't it?" I said suspiciously trying to seem as intimidating as possible(which isn't very intimidating if I'm being honest.).

"Well... you might have to serve some time in the reformatorium and work with the healing Coven to repay the cost of the artifact but that is only if you come with us willingly." Aunt Lilith said which by all means seemed pretty reasonable but...

"No deal!" I foolishly said still in the stupidly thinking of myself as a tragic hero or something as I moved my finished spell to my mouth and whistled causing it to waver as the sound waves ended up exploding in every direction, launching me and a few Coven guards that were approaching me into the trees.

"OOF!... o-okay that was a mistake on my part but if I..." Still holding onto the idea that I could fight them I started to shakily use beast taming magic on some big bugs nearby and commanded them to fight the Coven guards but as they approached I saw one of the Coven guards that weren't hit by my screwed up spell raise their hand and cast a spell as the bugs slowly turned around and start to approach me...

"Oh no..." is all I said as my spell dissolved and the remaining confidence I had about fighting them dissolved just like my countered spell before running.

Chris POV, Present...

'That was so stupid! I mean I used that whistling spell once and I was lucky to have Eda help me with trying to tame Gregory!' I thought to myself as I barely dodged the shredder that was the numerous bites from those bugs.

'Even ignoring that, I only just gained my magic back after 7 months of no practice! Which is almost the same amount of time I spent learning about magic, so of course any skill I had with magic was going to be rusty!' I slap my face only breaking out of my panic when I felt a tug from my side before being pulled into a bush.

"Wha-" I started to scream out in surprise but a hand covered my mouth, muffling it to the point it sounded more like some odd animal in the forest. "Shhh, it's me Emira calm down," Emira said, changing my panic-fueled surprise into a different kind of panic, one that had me feel a pit form in my stomach.

"Emira! What are you doing here?! You're supposed to head back to the house!" I said in a frantic voice thinking about how things could turn out for her if she was caught with the kid that shattered the Phoenix tear and also pissed off the leader of the healing coven.

"I'm here to get the kid I'm babysitting away from danger, which is kind of hard when you run into it like this!" Emira scolded as I clenched my teeth as my previous thoughts only rang truer than before.

'*sigh* I really am reckless, charging in and winning due to luck huh?' I thought to myself bitterly. 'I mean all I had were glyphs… wait why don't I set up traps using glyphs?' I thought remembering my longer experience with glyphs and my glyph sight that I… kind of forgot I could use. "-that's it!" I yelled out as I looked up at Emira excitedly.

"What's it?" Emira asked confused, looking at me like I was some strange creature she discovered which isn't wrong considering what I could do with my shifting.

"Ok this might sound stupid but I'm going to try to sneak around and surprise attack them… did you possibly see a cliff or some other kind of hazard around here?" I said as my smile slowly turned awkward as Emira stared at me.

"…That is stupid and would make even more problems… which is why as your babysitter I'll be overseeing this activity," Emira said as her mouth turned into a cheeky smile.

"Oh uh cool, well just lead me to where it is and I'll set it up!" I said a bit awkwardly, half expecting her to disagree. '-but I guess that's a prankster character for you.' I thought, brushing off my surprise as I followed after her.

TIME SKIP, a few minutes after arrival…

"How much longer?" I asked as Emira fashioned the pulley we needed for my plan.

"Not that much longer just need to tie this vine to this and we're good," Emira said with a smirk as she finally finished tying up the vine holding a large rock near the edge of a cliff.

"Nice! now I'll start." I said turning around and activating my glyph sight but… 'Why're they different?' I thought to myself as I started to look at the glyphs more closely… they were everywhere, patterned out in a beautiful kaleidoscope of glyphs in the trees, ground, air, and leaves.

'…whoa are these… the island's glyphs? I must have missed them because I wasn't using my glyph sight before, I-' I started to think before I felt a hand touch my head.

"hey focus Az and start drawing those symbols or whatever you talked about," Emira said snapping me out of my astonishment, messing up my hair as I shook my previous thoughts away and started to copy a large plant glyph between the ciff and rock trap before covering the glyph with loose foliage to blend in with the surroundings.

"It's finally ready, let's begin the plan," I said as I nodded to Emira who was now hidden near the tied-up vine before going off into the forest to find the Coven guards.
