Chapter 1
*yawn*
"Another day, another boring school lecture." I grumble as I turn off my alarm before it even rings and make my way to the bathroom. 'This room is a mess' I think as I notice the clothes piled up on a chair, the dirty floor that really needs to be mopped, the dusty shelves that need to be wiped and crumpled papers littering the floor around my table.
I enter the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. My hair was a mess, the dark shades under my eyes were a reminder that my sleep schedule was non-existent and my pale complexion the result of not going out enough.
As I brush my teeth I think about the direction my life is heading in. The long nights of studying and even longer days of attending lecture after lecture, it was honestly exhausting. If it wasn't for my parents I'd never step foot in this university, but I need their money for my hobbies, while my part-time job pays for the necessities I don't have much leftover for anything else. So I had to compromise.
After I make myself presentable I put my clothes on and head out to catch my bus. On the way to the door I grab an apple and exit my apartment. As I walk to the bus stop I bite into the apple and made a face because of the taste. "What the hell? I've had bitter apples, but this one takes the cake, was it not ripe yet?" I wondered out loud. As soon as I finished speaking I immediately felt dizzy, as if the world was spinning and my vision was starting to go dark. I closed my eyes and tried to steady myself.
Suddenly everything stopped, as if it never happened. When I opened my eyes I was standing on some kind of a reflective surface and the sky has become a collage of stars and galaxies. I was in awe at the sight.
As I look around I notice I'm not alone, a lone, featureless figure stood in front of me. It was a human like figure made of some kind of multi-coloured gas with shining lights, it looked like some of the galaxies in the sky but with a bright outline.
"Greetings mortal and welcome to my dimension. It seems luck was on your side as you found one of my wish fruits." It suddenly spoke, it's voice like a combination of different voices, young, old, man, woman, each changing every few words.
"Wish fruits? What is going on? Who are you?" I was quite confused and a little scared.
"I'm the master of this dimension, a being of great power, you can call me a god if it helps you understand. The apple wasn't a normal fruit, it was a fruit I made that transports people who eat it here, where I ask for their wish and reincarnate them, should they accept this opportunity." The being answered, the voice giving me a headache.
"Why would you do something like that, what do you gain out of this?"
"Because I can, and because I'm interested. Other of my kind have already been doing something similar in a country you call Japan, but I always felt their methods were a bit crude. Why should you kill those you want to reincarnate, there is nothing interesting in their reactions. Of course the people you kill will want to keep living, especially those with most of their lives still ahead of them. This way I can see different reactions, different choices and hear different points of view. You humans are curious and I want to see the true nature of your species. Should someone refuse I simply erase their memories of this meeting and send them back."
"Huh" I know, not exactly the best answer, but I was overwhelmed. "What can I wish for? Are there any restrictions?"
"The wish works on a pseudo lottery system, the wish depends on the kind of fruit you ingested, the world where you reincarnate is decided by the colour of the fruit, and the kind of fruit itself determines the category of the wish, an orange is an ability, a banana is an item, a pear is a talent etc. You ingested a green apple. An apple is a change of your race. The world will remain a surprise. All you have to do is draw a card from this deck."
After he finished speaking he pulled out a deck of playing cards, fanned them out and held them face down.
"But if everything is already determined and then left to chance, why is it named the wish fruit?" That was something that didn't make sense to me.
"Because in order to be reincarnated you need to say: I wish to continue. I was too lazy to come up with something more fitting." The being shrugged lazily, not caring at all.
"What if I don't like the card I picked?"
"You can refuse to continue and I send you back, you can try again should you find another wish fruit, but with how shirt you humans live, that is highly improbable." The being answers and reaches with its hand, still holding the cards, towards me. "Are you going to pick a card?"
I look at the cards, looking at each one, to see if there is a card sticking out, a card that is calling for me. I must have spent at least a half an hour looking at all the cards, there must have been at least a hundred cards, when I finally picked one.
I turned the card to looked at it and was pleasantly surprised. On the card was a picture of a woman with green skin, striking turquoise eyes, her hair made of vines, leaves and branches, she was covered with a dress made of moss and leaves down past the knees and bare feet. On the top of the card was a gold text: Nature spirit (dryad).
"Nice pick, now, will you continue to the new world?"
"I wish to continue."
