Myrtle was stunned to hear this revelation from Adrienne. It made sense to her why Gavin's eyes would turn lifeless whenever he saw a pair of mother and son walking hand in hand outside the cafe where she used to work. Initially, she thought Gavin must be missing his mother, but she never thought it was this serious. 

Her face turned pale as she realized what kind of life Gavin had led for the past years. Myrtle couldn't imagine the pain he'd been through when he found out about his mother's death. No wonder Gavin was actively helping Lennox care for his half-siblings because he could understand the pain of being alone with no one to rely on.
