35.71% Reborn as a Goblin - Road to Mastery / Chapter 10: Hunt

Chapitre 10: Hunt

Crimson watched the planet below her with a disinterested gaze.

Being the watcher of a planet was terribly boring. As a new initiate, though, she could only watch this D-Grade planet and play God, unable to interfere.

In boredom, she opened her status screen again.

Crimson couldn't help but marvel at the new [C] by her class. She had actually broken through into the C-Grade. She had managed to form her inner world. Even now, she could feel it powering her body, far more than whatever her Cultivator Core did.

Usually, she would continue to draw in the ambient Essence and continue to cultivate, but each level required a lot more than before.

Crimson turned her attention back down to the world she managed. Perhaps she should ditch her faction. Those zealots believed that every planet needed a manager, but they were a low-level faction that only spanned a few planets. Even then, their leader was a C-Grade Monarch, and Crimson still didn't believe she could beat him in a fight.

Crimson was interrupted from her musings as she felt a breakthrough. Nothing special, it was a low-level Dao, but the Dao itself was powerful. And what interested her further is that the signature was weak, perhaps someone who did not yet even have a class. The first class selections are mainly based on achievements and experiences, since people rarely are in contact with the Dao at that stage.

In that essence, whoever did so was probably a prodigy. But even then, she could tell it wasn't a cultivator. It was a Beast. So a Beast, something that could not cultivate, managed to comprehend a Dao before it had even gotten a class or its first evolution?

Even though Crimson had grasped a corner of the Dao of Space, she could feel her Dao intimidated by whatever that weakling had comprehended.

Crimson used [Quantum Body] and created a clone of herself. Usually she would use Essence or Qi, but she used some of her newly formed Chakra this time, just in case.

Crimson still admired her Pathbound cloning skill she had created in the E-Grade. Most good cloning skills were unavailable until one entered the D-Grade, before then, one could only use illusions and puppets. She, however, had managed to create something tied to the Dao of Space that created such a perfect clone, one could not tell the difference.

Her clone looked just like her, luxurious black hair that fell past her shoulders, a perfect face that was symmetric and proportioned just right- full lips, fiery red eyes, and finally, her features illuminated by the Dao that made her appear just the more beautiful. Capturing that last part was all but impossible without using Chakra.

As it was, her clone would last for about a month unless Crimson imbued more Chakra in it, but she wouldn't. The power level of her clone was much weaker than her, but it was Middle D-Grade, which was more than enough.

Crimson snapped her fingers and added clothes. They weren't as grand as hers, which were made purely of Qi, but they were beautiful all the same. White robes with trails of blue, perfectly accented with a belt. The belt was made of pure Essence, not as good as Crimson's which was made of pure Qi, but the black and blue patterns on it shifted and changed, which would make anyone in the F-Grade believe they were seeing the colors blue and black for the first time.

With all of this done, the clone of Crimson closed her eyes. Crimson flicked her hand and the clone was sent flying down towards the planet, breaking the sound barrier with such speed that not even a Peak E-Grade would be able to follow.

With that out of the way, Crimson turned her attention to another part of the planet. The D-Grade Hegemons were hosting a auction. Hopefully this would come to blows. A fight like that would destroy the ground for thousands of miles all around. Either way, it would be quite entertaining.

...

Trace ran through the forest, his legs pumping him at a speed even peak athletes would struggle to reach. The forest around his was a blur as he ran, darting over logs and carefully avoiding stronger monsters.

Trace felt amazing- in fact, he felt better than ever. Trace grinned wide as the wind rushed past him.

He felt truly alive. He was the king of the jungle!

Trace shook his head. His ego was inflated just because of his newfound strength. However, the sound of crunching bone made him stop in his tracks. He heard crunching, and assumed that was what a bone would sound like when getting destroyed.

Trace crouched low and concentrated on his ears, trying to direct his bloodline talent towards them. It worked, as he suddenly heard the small spider that sound a web 30 feet away from him. The roars of the monsters in the distance were even more magnified, but he concentrated on the sound coming from his left.

Someone- no, something, was eating.

Trace deactivated his bloodline talent and sharply turned left, moving at a considerable pace but making sure not to set off any sounds. Slightly pushing away some palm leaves, he saw it.

Trace quickly used [Intrusive Eye].

[Barghest - Level 6]

True to the name, a barghest seemed to contently munch on another barghest carcass. The demon dog was facing away from him, and its behavior seemed odd to Trace.

Was there no kinship among these demons? It seemed like it enjoyed cannibalism. Still, this one was quite strong, as the first one Trace had faced should've only been around level 4 or 5. Still, he couldn't underestimate an enemy weaker than him.

After all, he had managed to damage what he thought was a level 20 at level 5. Why couldn't this barghest do the same?

Trace clenched his fist as he debated whether to set up a trap. However, he felt immediate displeasure from his Dao of Power, bordering on disappointment. Trace's eyes widened at that.

No doubt strong people like the Goblin had Daos. At higher levels, were Daos like shackles that binded the strong? Would going against the nature of his Dao cripple his power?

Annoyance bubbled up in him. Power was subservient to him. By he could see its point- this barghest was ten levels weaker than him. He didn't need to set up a trap.

Trace sighed and decided to settle for throwing a rock. His eyes roamed the ground until he found a decent one, the size of his fist. Wasting no time, Trace picked it up. Channeling his Dao of Power, he waited until the barghest was giving him its side profile. Trace then threw the rock as hard as he could.

The rock rocketed forward with explosive power. It nailed the barghest right in the head with an audible pop, eliciting a whine from the barghest.

That attack wasn't enough to seriously wound it, though, as it furiously looked around at who had hit it. Trace backed away further into the cover of the foliage and slowly rounded the demon. When directly behind it, Trace pounced, jumping a full 5 feet with his new strength.

The barghest whirled just in time to get a clumsy midair kick straight to its face.

Trace landed lightly, realizing now that the barghest was as tall as he was, so it was about 4 feet in height, which was worrying.

The barghest let out a annoyed growl as blood leaked down at the side of its head, and Trace finally realized that he could hurt it. He was stronger. He had power.

Clenching his fists, Trace clocked it on the side of its head right as it turned again, not giving it breathing time. The demon stumbled back as Trace closed in, delivering a straight punch straight to its muzzle.

A snarl sounded as the demon wisely backed away. Trace darted forward, closing the distance of 3 meters in a few seconds, and tried to deliver a flying knee kick aided by his Node of Power to its still-damaged nose.

It connected, and Trace felt the crunch of bone as the barghest was sent flying back a few feet.

Trace grinned as he continued his attack. The barghest couldn't even get a single bite in as Trace completely pummeled it. Not into submission, but into death.
