Chapitre 56: Chapter 56

"This is a bad idea." Leaf trembled all over at the howling sounds of the Ghost-Pokemon.

There were right outside the Lavender Tower, and it was quite intimidating to stand and look up the length of it. It just towered over them and seemed to disappear in the darkness.

"Come on! They are just Pokémon. Contrary to the belief that they are ghosts of the dead, they are but living Pokemon, able to harness the negative and deathly energies of the world. And their lives are linked with Anti-matter to varying degrees, allowing most of them to become intangible at will." Anira squeezed her hand and assured her.

"But this Tower is a graveyard of Pokemon!" She argued.

There was nothing Anira or Aizen could say in return. It was true that this Tower was a graveyard of Pokemon. There were several tragedies and unspeakable atrocities committed by humans on Pokemon inside this Tower. It was the reason why this place reeked of deathly Aura and the Ghost-Type Pokemon made it their home.

"We will be fine. I promise." Aizen caressed her head and stepped forward to open the door.

As soon as he touched it, the door creaked open on its own, and they saw nothing but darkness inside. And a moment later, they heard the mad cackling of the Pokemon that eagerly waited for them to enter their home.

Leaf stumbled back in fright and was about to bolt out of there when Anira grabbed her arm and dragged her inside the Tower.

"No!" She screamed when the door behind them closed on its own.

"Leaf!" Aizen sternly called her out. "We are all here with you. Nothing is going to happen to any of us." He seriously said.

The Ghost Pokemon were trying to tell Leaf otherwise, as all of a sudden, malevolent glowing red eyes were popping open in the darkness and staring at them. The temperature around them started dropping dramatically as well. And this time, it was not just Leaf, but Misty too seemed to think that it was perhaps a bad idea to come here.

"Take out your Dex and scan them," Aizen instructed Leaf before she could scream again.

The hazel-eyed girl did as asked and scanned the red eyes.

"Duskull, the Ghost Pokemon. Duskull is a Pokémon which appears to be a stylized personification of the Grim Reaper. Its body is a black robe with two bones on its back. It has a mask that resembles a skull and has a single eye that floats between the eye sockets. Duskull is also able to become invisible to sneak up on its prey and go through walls. Duskull is primarily a nocturnal Pokémon and has been shown to live in thick forests. It is also famous for its love of crying children, and is often responsible for startling bad children by passing through walls and making them cry."

The last bit of information managed to calm Leaf down as she found it a little funny. And then she scanned all the red eyes around them.

"Dusclops, the Ghost Pokemon. Dusclops is a Pokémon with a roundish grey body with two stubby legs. Its body is hollow and can absorb anything much like a black hole. It has a single red eye and three tooth-like projections. It has two wispy, light grey growths coming out of its shoulders and one on top of its head. Its light grey hands appear to be directly attached to its body. It will wave these hands to hypnotize opponents and then force them to do as it wills. Dusclops preys on drifting will-o'-the-wisps, sucking them into its body. It usually lives in thick forests. It is thought that its body is hollow with only a spectral ball of fire burning inside. However, no one has been able to confirm this theory as fact."

"Gengar, the Ghost-Poison Pokemon. Gengar is a dark purple, bipedal Pokémon with a roundish body. It has red eyes, a wide mouth that is usually curled into a sinister grin, and pointed ears. On its back are numerous spikes and it has smaller spikes on top of its head similar to tufty fur. Its arms and legs are short with three digits on both its hands and feet. It also has a stubby tail. Gengar can hide perfectly in the shadow of any object, granting it exceptional stealth. However, Gengar's body acts as a heat sink. Its presence cools the temperature of the surrounding area by nearly 10°F (5°C) because it absorbs the warmth. On the night of a full moon, if shadows move on their own and laugh, it must be Gengar's doing."

"Misdreavus, the Ghost Pokemon. Misdreavus is a dark bluish-green, ghost-like Pokémon. While it has no visible arms or legs, its lower half has several small appendages and resembles a ruffled dress. It has several round red gems around its neck, which are used to absorb fear and use it as nourishment. It has long, flowing lilac-tipped "hair". Misdreavus's large, red eyes have yellow sclerae. Misdreavus usually lives in caves. As a nocturnal Pokémon, it spends its days sleeping in darkness and its nights startling people with mischievous tricks. Since it loves watching frightened people, it is known to yank and bite at people's hair or sneak up on them and cry and shriek. It can use its hair as a pair of hands to grasp objects and other Pokemon."

After seeing all their images and the information, Leaf calmed down a lot. She was also intently looking at the image of Duskull, which brought smiles on her friends' faces.

"Interesting, right?" Aizen smirked and asked.

"It is cute..." She nodded and then looked back at the pair of eyes, who were by now disappearing. Sensing that Aizen and the girls were not scared of them, they started working on some other pranks.

"Let's explore this place and see if we can find any interesting Pokémon." He said to the girls. "And remember, do not attack them if you want to catch them. We can not offend all these Pokémon here. Ask if it wants to join you and if it wants to have a battle. Okay?"

The girls nodded to his words and then followed after him, using special flashlights that were tinted red, just giving enough light that would not startle the Pokemon inside the Tower.

The girls yelped in surprise from time to time as different Pokemon pulled pranks on them by ruffling their hair or by giggling and laughing right near their ears. However, none dared to go too far because Aizen was constantly using his Powers which made them cautious.

Then again, it did not stop a Misdreavus from grabbing onto Misty's hair, frightening her.

Misty, at first, tried her best to ask it to let go, and even begged her friends to make it go away, but they all refused her, laughing at her misfortune. Aizen let it be as he sensed no malicious intent from the little Misdreavus, who was enjoying itself at Misty's expense.

Sometime later, Misty was happily talking with the Pokemon that refused to let go of her hair, coaxing it to become part of her Team. But Misdreavus refused to answer her, and only enjoyed its time playing with her hair.

At one instance, while they were climbing the stairs, Leaf slipped, but to her surprise, a Haunter manifested from her shadow and helped her stand back up. The incident really worked like magic on her, as all her fear of Ghost-Type Pokemon vaporised. She also actively started asking Duskull, whenever they came across one, to join her Team. But to her disappointment, none seemed interested in wanting to leave this place.

Aizen was only interested in Gengar and Haunter. All Gastly in the Tower wouldn't leave this place, as it was heaven for them and helped them manifest their ghostly energies. Here, they could grow stronger and evolve faster than outside. No incentive could make them leave this place.

"Why haven't you asked any Pokemon to join your Team?" Misty curiously asked him after she gave up trying to convince the Misdreavus resting on her hair. It had already been two hours, but Aizen had not approached any Pokemon yet.

"I think I have already found one that is interested in joining my Team." He smiled at her and gestured for her to look at his shadow.

Though there seemed nothing strange with his shadow, Misty understood that a Pokemon was hiding inside there.

It took them four more hours of exploring the Tower before Leaf finally found a Duskull that accepted her invitation.

Her happiness was beyond her control at that, and she happily hopped on her feet, holding her new Pokemon's Pokeball, and laughed excitedly.

The Pokémon in the Tower seemed happy for her as well, as they suddenly howled and madly cackled, sending chills up her spine.

"Hehe... I am not scared!" Leaf smiled brightly and shouted back at the Pokemon. "Eeeh!!" And she was taught a lesson by a Gengar that suddenly dropped the temperature around her and grabbed her, scooping her off the ground before putting her back down as she screamed her lungs out in fright.

Aizen stopped himself from laughing and approached the girl who was now fuming with anger.

"That's not fair!" She yelled at the disappearing Pokemon.

"Time to go." He said to her, and gently squeezed her hand to calm her down.

"Mhm.." Her cheeks reddened at his action and she obediently nodded her head before storing away Duskull's Pokeball on her belt.

Misty was quite shocked when they arrived outside of the Tower and the Misdreavus had still not let go of her. The Ghost-Type Pokemon was sound asleep, only its hair was moving on its own and playing with her hair.

The orange-haired girl was now debating if she should capture it or not.

"Go for it." Anira encouraged her. "It would have not fallen asleep like that if it didn't like you."

Her words made the decision easier for her, and she took out an empty Pokeball and activated it before lightly tapping it on the Misdreavus.

She waited with bated breaths for the ping to sound out, and it happened after a couple of blinks, bringing a smile to her face.

"Yes!" She happily pumped her fist in the air before smiling brightly at her friends. "I caught a Misdreavus!"

"Congratulations!" Both Leaf and Anira said in unison and Aizen nodded at her with a smile.

"Time to come out." The violet-eyed boy turned to look at his shadow and calmly said.

There was no answer for a few seconds, but then his shadow started changing forms before a Gengar emerged from it and levitated in the air.

The girls were surprised to see that it was a Gengar. Their lives mostly revolved around pulling pranks on people and taking care of Ghost-Type colonies that they were a part of.

"Gengar..." It sinisterly chuckled, looking right into Aizen's eyes.

The Orayen Prince stayed silent for a while, just looking at the Gengar. His instincts were telling him that the fellow in front of him was very old, perhaps centuries old, and he just couldn't find a reason why it would want to come with him.

"Gengar..."

As if reading his thoughts, it answered his question.

"So you are just bored." He chuckled. "Well, I don't think that's the entire truth, but you're welcome on my Team." He took out a Pokeball and activated it.

"Gengar..." The Pokemon approached him and placed its hand on the Pokeball, allowing the catching mechanism to start.

The Pokeball blinked thrice before the ping sounded out, and Aizen stored it on his belt with a smile.

"Did you sense any malicious intent?" Anira seriously asked her brother.

"No." Aizen shook his head.

"But a Gengar..." She frowned. "It would be really hard to form a bond with it that could help it gain its True Form."

Aizen nodded to her. Her words were reasonable, but he didn't want to just refuse Gengar because it would be hard for them to establish such a bond.

"We will work it out. It may be hard, but it is not impossible." He smiled at her with confidence. "Let's go get some sleep. We have a long day tomorrow."

I am scraping all the Trade Evolutions from the story that do not involve specific Pokemon and Items.

So, in this story, Haunter does not need to be traded to have it evolve into Gengar. But a Scyther would need to be traded, holding a Metal Coat, to allow it to evolve. However, they can also evolve on their own. It just takes a very long time to achieve that, and Trading with Items is a shortcut that the Researcher discovered over time.
