Chapitre 27: Strike

The circle of men stood around me, I was practically cornered in this small awful circle. I still stood strong, "Can I help you, gentlemen?" I did feel the nervousness consume me; I had never liked men and the way that they gazed at me as if I was something to be devoured. 

I felt like prey. It was nothing different than the usual ruse. I knew that Richter saw me as that. He salivated at the thought of me whimpering under his feet, desperately begging for him. These men were no different. It was so easy to read them. That was why I felt confounded by Carlisle. I couldn't understand him. 

I couldn't see what he wanted from me. I wished that he looked at me as these men did. Carlisle was too unpredictable with his soft touches and ambiguous eyes.
